Burton Kia: Driving Business Forward From an established family business to one of the region’s emerging players in commercial and fleet mobility, Burton Kia is entering an exciting new chapter. The automotive industry is changing at a remarkable pace. Electrification, changing tax structures, fleet decarbonisation and the growing demands being placed on businesses mean that choosing a vehicle is no longer simply about choosing a car or van. Increasingly, businesses want a partner who understands their operation, their drivers, their costs and, ultimately, their business. That is where Burton Kia sees its next major opportunity. With an established reputation for customer service, strong manufacturer relationships and a management team with decades of combined automotive experience, Burton Kia has built a successful retail operation at its purpose-built Centrum Gate dealership. But the business is no longer looking simply at the traditional showroom model. It is looking firmly towards business mobility, fleet and commercial vehicles. A business built around people At the heart of Burton Kia's success is its management team. The business has developed over many years by combining the strength and independence of a family-run operation with the standards, technology and product offering of one of the world's fastestgrowing automotive manufacturers. That experience has created a culture in which relationships matter. For private customers, that means a dealership that aims to understand what they actually need rather than simply what is on the forecourt. For business customers, the principle is 6 Small Business Fleet Management
even more important. A fleet decision can have a significant impact on a company's finances and day-to-day operation. Vehicle choice, finance, taxation, fuel or electricity costs, downtime, maintenance, driver requirements and whole-life costs all need to be considered. Burton Kia increasingly sees its role as helping businesses navigate those decisions. And that philosophy has led to its latest and perhaps most significant venture. Enter the PBV Centre In 2025, Burton Kia brought in Dale Bywater as Business & Commercial Sales Manager, with a specific brief: to establish and develop the dealership's commercialvehicle and fleet operation and to lead the new Burton Kia PBV Centre. Dale brought more than 25 years' experience to the role, spanning
automotive retail, commercial vehicles, fleet sales and business development. The timing was significant. Kia was entering the UK light-commercialvehicle market with an entirely new proposition — PBV, or Platform Beyond Vehicle. Rather than simply producing another conventional van, Kia's PBV strategy is designed around flexible electric vehicles that can be adapted to different businesses, applications and passenger requirements. The first vehicle to arrive is the Kia PV5, an all-electric light commercial vehicle available in Cargo and Passenger configurations, with an expanding range of body styles and specialist conversions. Kia launched its national PBV Centre network in 2025, creating dedicated locations specifically designed to support commercial customers. Burton Kia was selected
as one of the centres serving the East Midlands. For Burton Kia, this represented much more than adding another vehicle to the product range. It was the opportunity to create an entirely new side of the business. A different approach to commercial sales The philosophy behind Burton Kia's PBV operation is straightforward: start with the business, not the vehicle. A self-employed tradesperson has very different requirements from a ten-vehicle SME fleet. A local authority, housing association or national organisation will have different priorities again. Range may be important. Payload may be critical. Charging infrastructure could be the deciding factor. For another business, wholelife cost, driver comfort, accessibility or vehicle uptime may be the priority. The role of the PBV Centre is therefore not simply to sell a van. It is to understand the operation and find the appropriate solution. That consultative approach is particularly relevant as businesses consider electrification. The transition to electric commercial vehicles raises questions that many operators have never previously had to consider — from workplace charging and electricity costs to daily mileage, charging patterns and vehicle utilisation. For an experienced commercial operator such as Bywater, that is where the real value of specialist advice comes in. The PV5 is changing the conversation Kia's first commercial vehicle
has certainly attracted attention. The PV5 has now been awarded the prestigious 2026 International Van of the Year, voted for by a jury of commercial-vehicle journalists representing 26 countries. It is the first time Kia has won the award in the light-commercial-vehicle category. The PV5 has also demonstrated the breadth of Kia's PBV thinking. Cargo, Passenger, Chassis Cab and specialist converted versions are being developed, with applications ranging from logistics and delivery to trades, passenger transport and temperature-controlled operations. Kia showcased refrigerated and tipper conversions at the 2026 Commercial Vehicle Show. For businesses considering an electric fleet, that flexibility could prove particularly important. But perhaps the bigger story is what the PBV operation means for Burton Kia itself. From commercial vehicles to fleet mobility The PBV Centre is becoming a natural extension of Burton Kia's wider business operation. The dealership is increasingly establishing itself as a serious player in car fleet and corporate sales, as well as commercial vehicles. That is an important development. Many SMEs do not operate either a "car fleet" or a "van fleet" in isolation. They have a mixture of company cars, pool cars, vans, electric vehicles and specialist vehicles. A business may need a PV5 for its engineers, Sportage Hybrids for its management team and EVs for its sales representatives. Increasingly, Burton Kia wants to be able to provide the whole package.
That creates a proposition that is particularly relevant to the SME and public-sector markets, where dealing with a knowledgeable local business can offer significant advantages. Rather than being another anonymous fleet account, customers have access to people who understand their business and can remain involved throughout the vehicle lifecycle. A business with bigger ambitions What is happening at Burton Kia is therefore more than the arrival of an electric van. The PBV Centre represents a strategic shift. The dealership is taking the experience, customer service and relationships that have underpinned its success in passenger-car retail and applying them to a much wider business proposition. With Kia investing heavily in electrification, PBV technology and connected fleet solutions, the timing could hardly be better. Kia's UK PBV network is designed to provide specialist sales, servicing and commercial support, while the manufacturer is targeting significant growth in PBV sales over the coming years. For Burton Kia, the ambition is clear: to become a recognised business mobility partner across the East Midlands. And with more than two decades of commercial experience now driving the operation, a dedicated PBV Centre and an increasingly comprehensive Kia product range behind it, the business is well positioned to do exactly that. The next chapter in Burton Kia's story is already underway. And this time, it isn't just about selling cars. It is about helping businesses move.

Farizon SV earns its racing stripes with Team BRIT thanks to Brian Currie Ltd has been required, the van can be topped up from 20% to 80% in as little as 40 minutes. Nathan Wooldridge, Team BRIT’s number two mechanic, said: “As well as transporting a full complement of wet and slick tyres, we also carry other items that we can’t bring in our truck, such as catering packs and simulators. The SV is easy to load heavy items into, and there’s lots of anchorage points, making it easy to strap and secure items.”
Brian Currie Van Centre – the commercial vehicle dealer for Farizon in Milton Keynes – is proud to sponsor Team BRIT, the world's only competitive team of alldisabled racing drivers. This partnership has kicked off in earnest, with Team BRIT utilising a Farizon SV provided by Brian Currie Van Centre. The electric workhorse has already proven itself integral to supporting Team BRIT’s work, both on and off the racetrack. The team opted for the largest SV in Farizon’s range, the L3H3 model. With cargo capacity of 13m3, a payload of 1045kg and a range of up to 247 miles (WLTP combined), the L3 H3 is ideal for carrying items long distances. Mike Scudamore, Team Principal at Team BRIT, said: “Motor racing is not always seen as the most environmentally friendly sport, so we work hard to minimise our impact away from the circuit. The logistics behind our race operations are significant, and our van is a crucial part of our fleet. The all-electric Farizon SV was a great solution.” Straight into service The Farizon SV quickly became a key tool for Team BRIT, delivering equipment and personnel to race venues across the UK. The van regularly manages 310 miles on a single charge in real-world conditions, so it can reach most circuits without needing to stop. When a charge 8 Small Business Fleet Management
A comfortable companion Throughout those long-distance journeys crisscrossing the country, the SV has proven to be extremely comfortable, seating three team members and providing plenty of storage space. According to Wooldridge, the SV is also far quieter than a conventional diesel van, and feels more like driving a big car rather than a large van. Team BRIT have been well-served by the high levels of kit provided as standard, including a leather multifunction heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated leather seats, Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology. With over 5,000 miles now under its belt, Team BRIT’s Farizon SV continues to play an important role for the race-winning team. Scudamore summed-up: “The high spec of the Farizon means we’re guaranteed to have a safe and reliable van for a long time to come, and the fact it’s electric is a bonus.” Tom Osborne, Managing Director at Brian Currie, said: “Team BRIT isn’t just about racing. They’re about resilience, inclusivity, and showing that disability is no barrier to competing at the highest levels. Their mission aligns perfectly with our values, and it’s an honour to be working with them.”

Farizon SV wins big, named Zero-Emissions Van of the Year in the UK Farizon Auto, the born-electric new energy vehicle brand introduced to the United Kingdom by Jameel Motors, has received major industry recognition as the Farizon SV is awarded ‘Zero-Emissions Van of the Year’ at the What Van? Awards 2026, held in London. The accolade was granted by an independent judging panel supported by the What Van? editorial team, who evaluated this year’s new electric light commercial vehicles across efficiency, running costs, and overall suitability for real operational use. Their decision reflects the strong technical foundations and engineering quality behind Farizon’s first Europeanfocused model. James Dallas, Editor at What Van?, praised the Farizon SV 10 Small Business Fleet Management
for its innovative skateboard architecture, practicality, and the brand’s emphasis on safety, noting the importance of the UK as a key market supported by the opening of the brand’s flagship Park Royal dealership. Calum James, General Manager,

As international distributor, Jameel Motors continues to support the introduction of innovative, sustainable mobility solutions across key markets, and the recognition of the Farizon SV marks an important milestone in the brand’s UK journey.

Kia PV5 is top-selling electric small van in Europe for the first six months of the year The Kia PV5 van has quickly become the most popular electriclight commercial vehicle (e-LCV) in Europe, according to data released by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA).* Sales of electricallychargeable vans in Europe increased by 37.5%, year-on-year, capturing a 13.9% market share, up from 10.2% in the first half of 2025. In the first six months of the year, the PV5 sold 13,116 units**, placing it as the top-selling electric van in the highly competitive European C-segment (small van market in the UK). Available as Cargo, Passenger and Chassis variants for businesses and private customers, the PV5 accounted for an impressive 37% of all electric vans sold in the C-segment in Europe, and was number one in 12 countries, including the UK (3,361 units) and Germany (2,206 units). Across all engine types, the PV5 was the best-selling van in Denmark (1,222 units), the Netherlands (1,196 units), Norway (739 units) and Sweden (1,414 units). “The customer response to the introduction of the PV5 in Europe has been overwhelming, not just in terms of the number of vehicles sold, but with how the PV5 is adding new value across mobility, business use and specialised transportation,” said Sjoerd Knipping, Chief Operating Officer of Kia Europe. “The Kia PBV strategy goes beyond the vehicle itself, with a fully integrated ecosystem that combines software, services, ownership and flexibility, supported by a dedicated service network.” Designed from the ground up as an 12 Small Business Fleet Management
electric commercial vehicle on Kia’s E-GMP.S platform, the PV5 line-up prioritises usability and efficiency in real operating conditions. In the first six months of the year, customers have been greatly impressed by the tight turning radius that is ideal for urban environments, the low cargo loading height that reduces operator strain and the modular body architecture that simplifies repairs. On entering the European market, the PV5 has proven a winner in the electric C-segment, achieving a market share above 50% in five countries through the first half of 2026 (63% in Denmark, 62% in Ireland, 59% in Sweden, 58% in Finland and 54% in the UK) and above 20% in an additional 14 countries. The PV5 Cargo has already received major industry recognition, including the International Van of the Year 2026, while the PV5 Passenger was named ‘Family Car of the Year’ at the BBC TopGear.com Awards 2026. The PV5 Cargo demonstrated its
efficiency capabilities by covering 693.38km (430.84 miles) on a single charge, setting a new Guinness World Record. Additionally, the PV5 Passenger exceeded its WLTP range during the El Prix test in Norway, achieving 420km (260 miles) in the world’s largest independent EV test. The PV5 is also available as a wheelchairaccessible vehicle (WAV) with side entry, while the Passenger variant has expanded to include a 7-seat configuration. With the PBV, Kia is going beyond automotive to build a scalable business framework for commercial mobility that is more flexible, more connected and more relevant to the needs of customers. Kia plans to expand its PBV strategy with the PV7 in 2027 and the PV9 in 2029, establishing a complete PBV line-up. Through more than 40 different body types, the company will deliver highly customisable mobility solutions tailored to diverse customer and business requirements.
The Kia PV7 teased ahead of World Premiere at IAA Transportation Kia Corporation (Kia) today unveiled teaser images and video of the Kia PV7, the brand’s second dedicated, all-electric Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) model, ahead of its global debut at IAA Transportation in September. Expanding Kia's PBV lineup into the light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment, the PV7 delivers increased space and capability beyond the PV5, meeting the evolving needs of business customers across a broader range of commercial and lifestyle use cases. The teaser images place the PV7 in a range of everyday settings, showcasing its adaptability across different lifestyles and work scenarios. Its one-box profile combines balanced proportions with a robust, confident stance, while the black hood and pillar garnish create a sharp contrast with the body colour. Together with Kia’s signature front and rear lamp graphics, these elements reinforce the distinctive design identity of Kia PBVs. Building on Kia’s extensive EV expertise, the PV7 is built on the
dedicated E-GMP.S platform and follows the introduction of the PV5 as the brand’s second dedicated PBV model. As a key pillar of its PBV strategy, the PV7 and its future derivatives will further expand the PBV lineup and broaden Kia’s business mobility offering. The Kia PV7 will make its global debut at IAA Transportation in Hannover, Germany, September 14, 2026. Recognised as the world’s leading commercial vehicle
exhibition, the event will also see Kia showcase a range of PV5 derivatives, highlighting the scalability of the brand’s PBV strategy and its continued expansion across multiple customer applications. In addition to the global debut of the PV7, Kia will present the latest variants of the PV5, first launched in 2025. At IAA, Kia will showcase a wide range of flexible body types, including PV5 Cargo L2/H2, PV5 Cargo L1/H1, PV5 Chassis, PV5 Passenger 7-seat, PV5 WAV (Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle) and PV5 Food Truck – demonstrating the platform’s adaptability across diverse business applications. Designed from the ground up as an electric commercial vehicle, the PV5 line-up prioritises usability and efficiency in real operating conditions. Features such as a tight turning radius for urban environments, a low cargo loading height to reduce operator strain and modular body architecture to simplify repairs all contribute to reduced downtime and improved total cost of ownership. Kia achieves record July as PV5 and EVs power continued UK growth Kia UK has achieved its strongest July performance on record, registering 9,870 vehicles across its passenger car and PBV (Platform Beyond Vehicle) ranges, according to the latest figures released today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). The result further strengthens Kia’s position as one of the UK’s leading automotive brands. Across the combined car and light commercial vehicle (LCV) market, Kia ranked third in July and remains third yearto-date. In the passenger car market alone, Kia secured second place for both the month and year-to-date, with 9,086 registrations in July and 71,931 registrations so far this year. The record month was driven by exceptional demand for Kia’s newest products, including the PV5 – the brand’s first dedicated fully electric PBV – and the brand’s rapidly expanding electric vehicle line-up. Kia’s entry into the UK commercial 14 Small Business Fleet Management
vehicle market continues to exceed expectations following the market introduction of the PV5 at the end of 2025. July marked the first time more than 1,000 Kia PBVs were registered in a single month, comprising 784 PV5 Cargo models and 235 PV5 Passenger models. Strong customer demand since launch has already seen year-to-date registrations reach 3,239 PV5 Cargo models and 1,141 PV5 Passenger variants, comfortably surpassing Kia UK’s original annual sales expectations. From a standing start at the beginning of the year, the popularity of the PV5 has propelled Kia into third place in the UK’s electric light commercial vehicle market both month- and year-to-date. The PV5 Cargo is also the UK’s best-selling electric van so far this year, excluding PV5 Passenger registrations. Across Europe and including the
UK, the Kia PV5 has quickly become the most popular e-LCV, according to data released by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA). Available as Cargo, Passenger and Chassis variants for businesses and private customers, the PV5 accounted for an impressive 37% of all electric vans sold in the small van (C-segment) in Europe, and was number one in 12 countries, including the UK and Germany. The success of the PV5 highlights growing demand for Kia’s PBV proposition, which combines practical capability, a dedicated EV platform, competitive running costs and Kia’s reassuring seven-year/100,000-mile warranty. Kia continued its strong momentum in the UK’s transition to electrification, ending July as the nation’s best-selling EV brand with 3,731 fully electric vehicles registered during the month.
A significant contributor to this success was the Kia EV3, which was the UK’s second most-registered electric vehicle in July with 1,691 registrations. The EV3’s monthly volume equated to around half of Sportage registrations during the same period, underlining the popularity of Kia’s electric cars and the growing customer demand of electric mobility. Year-to-date, Kia ranks second among all manufacturers in the EV market, behind only one pure-electric brand. Kia’s all-electric line-up now spans the EV2, EV3, EV4, EV5, EV6 and EV9, alongside the PV5, offering one of the most comprehensive EV portfolios available in the UK market. The strength of Kia’s EV range has also been supported by eligibility for the Government’s Electric Car Grant across a number of models, helping make electric driving even more accessible for customers. The Kia Sportage remains the cornerstone of Kia’s success in the UK and abroad, and continues form as the UK’s favourite family SUV. With 29,033 registrations so far this year, Sportage is currently the UK’s second best-selling vehicle overall and has increased registrations by 5.6% compared to the same period last year. Commenting on the results, Paul Philpott, Kia UK’s President and CEO, said: “Kia’s record July performance reinforces our position among the UK’s best-selling automotive brands. With strong demand across passenger cars, electric vehicles and commercial vehicles, alongside the continuing success of Sportage and the rapid rise of the PV5 shows promise for the rest of 2026. Next this year, the full UK line-up of the Kia EV2 will soon begin customer deliveries, adding to the single grade ‘First Edition’ and further boosting our EV line-up.”. Mercedes-Benz Vans adds new Mercedes Pro Connect services to Sprinter, Vito and eVito models
Mercedes-Benz Vans UK Ltd has enhanced the capabilities of its class-leading connectivity system, Mercedes PRO connect, with the addition of two new services – Remote Access and Digital Drivers’ Log. Remote Vehicle Access means that a driver assigned to a vehicle can lock and unlock the vehicle and operate the optional auxiliary heater (if fitted) from anywhere in the world. This allows packages to be dropped off to the load compartment, for example, even if the driver is not with the vehicle. In addition, the driver is able to set the vehicles’ optional auxiliary heater. If the keys are locked in the vehicle, they can also now be retrieved more easily. It also offers improved antitheft protection, as unlocked vehicle doors are noticed, flagged on the system, and can be remotely locked again.

and electric mobility services to Mercedes PRO connect. Further new features to the system in the past six months also included realtime variable servicing monitoring, parking time monitor and additional geo-fence options. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles research shows 41% of van drivers keep tools in vehicle overnight, despite ongoing theft risk Tool thefts continue to strain UK businesses, with 1 in 5 (19%) van drivers falling victim to theft last year, according to Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles research.1 While an improvement on the number of van drivers reporting incidents of tool theft year-on-year2, a Freedom of Information request revealed that as many as 15,464 individual cases were reported to police forces across the UK3, confirming the ongoing prevalence of the issue. With the research indicating that the average value of stolen equipment per van stands at over £1,7001, this means that UK tradespeople are facing a bill of up to £1.64 billion in stolen equipment.4 In spite of these risks, 41% of UK van drivers continue to leave equipment in their vehicles overnight – over a third (37%) of whom confess that the value of tools left in their van 28 Small Business Fleet Management
exceeds £2,000. The impact of tool thefts on UK businesses stretches beyond replacing equipment, though, with the majority (57%) of respondents unable to work while their vans are re-stocked and locks repaired1, as well as further risk of an increase in future insurance premiums for van owners who are on the receiving end of tool theft. With downtime costing companies an estimated £550 a day per van, at a time when UK businesses are already feeling the squeeze, these costs underscore the significant disruption that tool theft can bring. To help van drivers protect their vehicles, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles offers a range of solutions designed to keep their van secure. The all-electric ID. Buzz Cargo is fitted with an anti-theft alarm system as standard, in addition to interior monitoring in the cab, a back-up horn and towing protection5. When
activated, the anti-theft alarm system sounds the horn and activates the hazard lights, alerting bypassers to any unwelcome intrusion. John Ricardo-Neto, Head of Product Planning at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said: “The cost of theft is more than just the price of the tools stolen, it’s the downtime while van drivers replace the stolen equipment, the higher insurance premiums and lost revenues, so it’s imperative that UK tradespeople be vigilant to tool theft. “We urge those who own expensive equipment to take extra precautions – securing or removing tools overnight and parking in a well-lit, CCTV-monitored area. For those who wish to further increase the security of their vehicles, our range of theft prevention technologies can offer extra protection, allowing van drivers to get back to focusing on their businesses.”

The new BMW 1 Series is priced from £29,950 (RRP) and available to order at BMW Retailers across the UK from today. The sporty appearance of the BMW 1 Series in its fourth generation is underscored by typical BMW proportions: a long bonnet, a passenger cell set well back, a dynamically flowing roofline and a powerful rear design. The dimensions of the five-door model have changed only slightly compared to its predecessor. The exterior length of the new BMW 1 Series has increased by 42 millimetres to 4,361 millimetres, while the wheelbase is 2,670 millimetres. The vehicle width is 1,800 millimetres, while the height has increased by 25 millimetres to 1,459 30 Small Business Fleet Management
millimetres. With a strikingly flat front end that sits significantly lower to the road than its predecessor, the new BMW 1 Series signals its sporty character more than ever. The wide, forward-leaning BMW radiator grille features an innovative structure comprised of vertical and diagonal bars. The standard-fit LED headlights feature striking vertical elements for the daytime running light and the turn indicators. Adaptive LED headlights with glare-free matrix high beam, cornering light function and blue accents are optionally available. The side view of the new BMW 1 Series is characterised by the dynamic wedge shape and the flat window

The new Audi A5 models: modern sportiness meets premium proportions Audi is opening the next chapter in its successful history in the midsize segment with the new A5 family. Launching 30 years after the first Audi A4, the sharpened design language of the latest generation, now called the Audi A5, captivates with striking proportions. Both body styles, Saloon and Avant, perfectly embody the sporty essence of Audi’s design philosophy. A new interior design language creates a feeling of space and places the displays on a digital stage. The new operating concept increases interaction with the vehicle. Efficient, partially electrified combustion engines and thrilling S models round off the range. With the expansion of its model range, AUDI AG has restructured the naming of its vehicles since 2024. The numbers in the names of electric and combustion-engine models are the differentiators. Going forward, even numbers stand for electrically powered models, odd numbers for vehicles with combustion engines. With the debut of the latest generation, the Audi A4, a long-standing bestseller, will be called the Audi A5 and will be produced in Neckarsulm. It is offered in four new variants: as the A5 and S5 Saloon and as the A5 and S5 Avant. These are the first models to be launched on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC). Audi CEO Gernot Döllner on the new model family: “In tandem with the expansion of our all-electric portfolio, we are launching a new generation of models with efficient combustion engines. The Audi A5 family with its athletic design, completely new interior and future-proof electronics architecture will be the first. The advanced MHEV plus technology enables partially electric driving and therefore even more efficient driving.” The new models are growing 32 Small Business Fleet Management
in length and width. Audi is also expanding the amount of standard equipment, positioning the new Audi A5 in the upper mid-size segment. The new user experience based on the 1.2 version of the E³ electronic architecture matches this aspiration. Even at first glance, the completely redesigned A5 family has a powerful and clean design. The modified proportions with a long wheelbase, large wheels and the low, sporty body embody progressive dynamism and premium standards. In the Saloon, the sporty, compact-looking greenhouse stretches to the rear in a sweeping arc, flows seamlessly into the shallow rear window in a coupé-like manner, and ends at the visually short tailgate with a striking spoiler lip. The rear hatch, which is new in this vehicle segment, offers a convincing symbiosis of design and functionality. It opens with the rear window and its size makes access to the luggage compartment considerably easier. This results in a completely new Saloon concept for Audi. In the Avant, the dynamic, taut roofline merges into a seamlessly integrated roof spoiler that spans the sporty, flat rear window. The D-pillars, which are steeply raked, emphasize the dynamic side view of the A5 Avant. The front is dominated by the wide and significantly flatter proportioned Singleframe with a three-dimensional honeycomb structure. Together with the slim and precisely drawn headlights, it shapes the face of the vehicle and gives it a striking and focused expression. Thanks to the “soft nose” integrated into the bumper, the hood is flush with the front end. The blisters protruding powerfully from the shoulder area at the front and rear wheels are reminiscent of the Audi
Ur quattro and a core element of the Audi design DNA. The striking, distinctive rear combines sporty, emotional design and intelligent technology. The three dimensional, offset light strip gives the rear of the new Audi A5 presence and visual dynamism. Further highlights of the rear view in the base models are the clear, modern design of the bumper with a dark diffuser and the highquality rectangular exhaust tips. The Audi A5 family offers digital daytime running lights with LED technology at the front and second-
generation digital OLED rear lights at the rear (S5 only in UK). With around 60 segments per digital OLED panel, they are increasingly becoming a display at the rear of the vehicle on the S5. This enables car-to-x communication and increases safety on the road - for example with the new communication light. The dynamic lighting effects when unlocking and leaving the vehicle reflect the aesthetics of movement as part of the Audi light DNA. The active digital light signature does so too, conveying a new sense of liveliness. The headlights are three dimensional in look and offer digital light signatures on Edition 1 and S5 models in the UK, while the rear light digital sigatures are available on the S5 only.
The design of the interior of the new Audi A5 is based on four characteristic features. Firstly, the interior has a human-centric design, i.e., it is consistently geared towards the needs of its users. The second special feature is the Digital Stage that establishes itself in clear view of the driver and front passenger in the form of the Audi MMI displays. With its Material Driven Design, the Audi A5 meets the requirement for a generous sense of space with a high level of comfort. The clear layout and easy operation of the interior provide an overview in all situations to form the fourth feature: Visual Clarity. Added to this is the optional dynamic interaction light (standard on S5) to support the car's interaction with the occupants.
The new operating concept of the Audi A5 family increases interaction with the vehicle thanks to the E³ electronic architecture. The new Audi A5 integrates seamlessly into our customers’ digital ecosystem and offers a personal connectivity experience. The slim, free-standing Audi MMI panoramic display has a curved design and uses OLED technology. It consists of the Audi virtual cockpit with a 11.9-inch visible screen diagonal and the 14.5-inch MMI touch display. Audi complements the digital stage for the front passengers with the 10.9inch MMI front passenger display (available on Edition 1 spec), which is perfectly integrated into the dashboard design. The new A5 has an optional, configurable head-up display that has
Small Business Fleet Management 33
been further developed compared to its predecessor (standard on S5). For the first time, drivers now have the option of controlling vehicle and infotainment functions via the head-up display. The new MHEV plus system based on a 48-volt on-board electrical system supports the combustion engine and reduces CO2 emissions while increasing performance. The powertrain generator (PTG) enables electric driving components that contribute to a reduction in fuel consumption. The new MHEV plus system enables significant advantages in CO2 emissions and fuel consumption in the Audi A5 model series compared to an MHEV system. These total up to 10 g/ km CO2 in the 2.0 TDI (204PS, frontwheel drive/quattro) and up to 17 g/ km CO2 in the V6 3.0 TFSI (367PS, quattro) in the WLTP driving cycle*. The PTG can also add up to 24PS of electric power to the output of the combustion engine. When decelerating, the PTG feeds energy back into the battery (recuperation) at up to 25 kW. As a result, purely electric manoeuvring and parking are possible to a limited extent. Thanks to the option of using an electric air conditioning compressor, the air conditioning system can also be operated when the vehicle is stopped at traffic lights and the combustion engine is switched off. With the integrated and blending-capable
34 Small Business Fleet Management
brake control system (iBRS), the brake pedal and the brake hydraulics can be completely decoupled. In models with the MHEV plus system, for example, it achieves the necessary deceleration without using the friction brakes thanks to regenerative braking. This means that deceleration is initially achieved solely by recuperation. The friction brakes only kick in when the brake pedal is pressed harder. The brake feel remains unaffected by this. The efficient engines in the Audi A5 family cover a wide range: from the conventionally powered entrylevel model to the comfortable long-distance runner and the dynamic sports car. The packages of engines, transmissions, the degree of electrification and type of drivetrain are geared towards the expectations of our customers. The entry-level engine is a 2.0 TFSI with 150PS. Sitting above this, the same engine is available with an output of 204 PS. The turbo four-cylinder is available with a dual-clutch gearbox and both power outputs are frontwheel drive only in the UK. This TFSI engine is equipped with a turbocharger with variable turbine geometry (VTG) and works with a modified combustion process that is particularly fuel-efficient under partial load. VTG technology enables a consistent and agile build-up of torque even at low engine speeds in petrol engines.
The 2.0 TDI with 204PS sets new standards in the A5 thanks to its MHEV plus technology. This twolitre engine from the EA288 evo generation inherits the optimized combustion from its predecessor thanks to the cylinder pressure sensor, TwinDosing for exhaust emission control and two balance shafts for smooth engine operation. It delivers 400Nm of torque between 1,750 and 3,250 rpm. The 2.0 TDI is available with a dual-clutch gearbox and frontwheel drive or with quattro ultra. To increase efficiency and comfort, the engine is partially electrified using the new 48-volt MHEV plus system. The electrified drivetrain components reduce CO2 emissions thanks to high recuperation performance. In addition, the comfort of the TDI is further enhanced by a 48-volt starter generator for a smooth engine start. The reaction time when starting off is reduced and the car is noticeably more agile. The S5 is a sports car powered by a 3.0-litre V6 TFSI engine with an optimized combustion process. It has a turbocharger with variable turbine geometry (VTG) and MHEV plus technology for the first time. The revised S tronic dual-clutch transmission in the Audi S5, designed for more torque, also reduces the weight on the front axle and improves agility. Partial electrification by means of the new 48-volt MHEV plus system leads to reduced CO2 emissions via electrified driving components and high recuperation performance. Compared to an S4 Saloon TDI (predecessor model), the S5 Saloon TFSI reduces CO2 emissions by up to 14 g/km. Its fast, dynamic torque build-up underlines the sportiness of the S5. The standard use of a quattro sport differential with torque vectoring in combination with an adjustable allwheel drive clutch is tuned for lateral dynamics at the highest level.

Volvo XC90 honoured as the UK’s best seven-seater in the Auto Trader New Car Awards 2024 The Volvo XC90 has triumphed in the Auto Trader New Car Awards 2024, winning the title of the UK’s best seven-seater. Its success was secured thanks to the positive opinions and experiences of owners who were among more than 200,000 UK motorists who took part in Auto Trader’s latest annual survey, rating their cars across different criteria, from reliability and performance to appearance and running costs. Announced at an awards ceremony in London yesterday, the honour commends the XC90 for its impressive balance of style and practicality. While it displays the cool, contemporary design cues that distinguish today’s Volvo models, it offers a generous combination of passenger and load space. The load compartment in the petrol version offers up to 356 litres 36 Small Business Fleet Management
of space when all seven seats are being used, or a maximum of 1,856 litres with all the seats folded down. For families on the move, the XC90 provides many useful features for making journeys easier and more comfortable. Standard equipment across the range includes individual folding second- and third-row seats, four-zone climate control with an advanced air-quality system, airconditioning for the third-row seats, hands-free tailgate operation, a rear parking camera, front and rear parking sensors, and a comprehensive suite of safety and driver-assistance systems. Erin Baker, Auto Trader Editorial Director, said: “Volvo’s stylish, beautifully built XC90 offers everything you could ever need from a seven-seat car.” She highlighted the positive opinions expressed by owners and their
appreciation of the XC90’s familyfriendly features, interior space, ability to take long journeys in its stride and generous equipment levels. Nicole Melillo Shaw, Volvo Car UK Managing Director, said: “It is fantastic to win this Auto Trader award, not least because it is voted for by owners who live with the car day in, day out. “In all the advances we have made in design, engineering, safety and new technologies, we have never forgotten the importance of day-today practicality – a hallmark of our brand over many years. Customers clearly value the fact that the XC90 is an authentic, premium-quality sevenseater without compromise.” The XC90’s success comes just a week after the first of Volvo’s fully electric EX90 seven-seaters came off the assembly line in the USA.

Sprinter retains Large Van of the Year honour at Great British Fleet Awards The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter has retained the Large Van of the Year honour at the Great British Fleet Awards, held 30 January 2023 in London. Dan Gilkes, Van Fleet World Editor and one of the judges for the Great British Fleet Awards, said: “While several players in the heavy van market have raised their game in the last 12 months, none has taken the sector further forward than Mercedes’ Sprinter. Front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, manual, automatic, high powered or fleet stalwart, Sprinter continues to offer a model to suit every application. “Even in its largest form, the 38 Small Business Fleet Management
big Mercedes is easy to drive, as a local delivery vehicle or a longdistance hauler. It also continues to return commendably frugal fuel figures, helping to keep total cost of ownership low. "As mentioned last year, the biggest step that Mercedes has taken with Sprinter is in the cab, where the MBUX interface leads the way in easy to operate driver assistance technology. Factor in a growing number of Mercedes PRO telematic and fleet management solutions and the Sprinter easily retains our Best Large Van award.” Steve Bridge, Managing Director, Mercedes-Benz Vans UK, commented: “When we say that we
keep businesses moving, we mean it; to retain Large Van of the Year thanks to Mercedes PRO connect really does highlight that we have the right products and services to support fleet owners and drivers and ensure that we do exactly that; help keep their business moving.” Since its launch in 1995, the Sprinter has defined and re-defined a whole segment numerous times. It has notched a succession of technological ‘firsts’ including the ESP stability system, Crosswind Assist, the Euro VI emissions standard, COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST, Blind Spot Assist and Lane Keeping Assist, and collected more than 85 industry awards.
