Rusty White knew something was wrong when her passenger refused to pay the final $6.

She had been a taxi driver in Nelson for 25 years and endured her fair share of grumpy punters. But three months ago, she had a sense that things were going to get violent. Rusty’s passenger, who she had

dropped off on Bridge St a few hours earlier, kept getting more aggressive. He refused to pay and then he shoved her up against the side of the taxi door and put his arm to her throat. “He lifted me up and just smashed

me. I usually look after myself but I knew I needed help.” Rusty was only just able to reach the panic button down below the steering wheel “For me at the time, I was just hoping it was working.”

In bloom for summer Charles Anderson There was little doubt where Michelle Bain would be taking her son and niece yesterday. Michelle grew up near Isel Park and always enjoys a day out there. “My husband and I even got married here.” So, while the hubby was out fishing for the long weekend, Michelle took her niece Tayla and son Lachy for a picnic at Bloom. Formerly Isel in Bloom, the festival celebrates the coming of summer and gave locals a chance to explore the four hectares of gardens and woodland at Isel House. Hundreds turned out for its floral displays and stalls, garden tours and workshops and live entertainment. Nelson City Council community services committee chair, Gaile Noonan, says Bloom was a great event that allowed the public to enjoy the start of the warmer seasons. “It’s the perfect time to enjoy our beautiful historic house and the stunning gardens and flowers, as the park emerges from winter hibernation.” Tayla just enjoyed the space. “It’s great for doing cartwheels.”

The news of the new government was met with cheers from Labour supporters last week as they gathered at the Freehouse pub to watch the announcement come through. Nelson’s Labour candidate Rachel Boyack says the Labour, New Zealand First and Green Party coalition will likely signal some key changes in Nelson, including not supporting the building of the Southern Link and supporting Richmond’s Salisbury School. “There was clearly a mood for change in Nelson and that was replicated across the country. Winston has seen that mood for change. “Labour, the Greens and New Zealand First all support Salisbury School staying open.” She says local politicians in Nelson need to look at easing traffic congestion in the city, without the Southern Link. “What I would say about transport in Nelson, is that I think it’s now timely for the leaders of the city to sit down and look at the alternatives to ease congestion in Nelson. The solutions are there. “I’ve always said that the

NEWS Sanctuary completes poison drop operation: The third and final aerial poison drop at the Brook Sanctuary went off without a hitch last Wednesday. Around seven tonnes of brodifacoum-laced bait was dropped, bringing the total since the beginning of September to 26.5 tonnes. Sanctuary trustee Derek Shaw says they are excited to get on with the next phase which is reintroducing a “very long list” of species. “It feels great to get this stage behind us and get onto the exciting stuff.” He says they will now work on monitoring the 3,000 traps and tracking tunnels within the fence for at least two months, to determine whether there are any predators left. Mike King coming to Nelson: The Nelson District Parents Centre is bringing Mike King to Nelson in November. The Kiwi entertainer-turned-mental health educator and motivational speaker will be sharing his journey with mental illness and addiction, as well as providing advice for parents, whanau and others caring for children and youth in the community. ‘An Evening with Mike King’ will be help on 15 November, 7pm – 9pm at the Annesbrook Auditorium. Nelson reaches peak Thai as restaurants look to innovate Charles Anderson Nelson seems to have hit peak Thai as stalwarts in the industry look to more creative ways of satisfying locals’ demands for the tastes of Asia. From Tahunanui to the central city, one does not need to travel far to find a Thai restaurant. Of the 140 eateries in the city, there are now more than 10 outlets serving Thai food. Among the places serving Thai food include: My Thai and Thai Tahuna, Golden Bell, Chokdee, U-Thong, Golden Bell and Nahm – not mention food carts. Another Southeast Asian restaurant, started by the owners of Nahm, Aun Cheah and Sizanoot Petchjam, is also opening in the old ANZ building at the top of Trafalgar St soon. The saturation has led one queen of the speciality to open a restaurant that offers both Thai food and Chinese Yum Cha – something that Nelson has not seen before. “You have to be creative now,” says Bunga Krataitong. “It is all about offering

something different and something that gets Nelsonians interested.” Bu-nga came to Nelson more than 10 years ago as an English student. Now, she and her husband Nuttavut own seven restaurants across Richmond, Nelson and Blenheim. It’s a long way from the food cart that they first set up on Nile St. Last week they opened a restaurant called Samko, serving Chinese and Thai food, and this week they hope to open another. “That’s why we have called our latest restaurant ‘Miracle’,” says Bu-nga. “We never thought that we would be able to do this.” When Nelson Weekly visited the restaurant last week it was in the final throws of getting everything ready for its final inspection by the Nelson City Council, which was due to happen today. Bu-nga hopes that if everything goes well Miracle will be open this week. Bu-nga says she has never considered herself just Thai, as her grandparents were Chinese and Laotian. “I am a blend and that is why our food

is also a blend.” Miracle’s menu is inspired by her husband’s family cooking back in Thailand. But it will also include Yum Cha – a Chinese style of menu which features small dishes that can be picked out. “We always want our food to be accessible so anyone can try it,” Bu-nga says. “Even if you only have a few dollars in your pocket you can still get something delicious. It doesn’t just have to be for a special occasion.” She says that other Thai restaurant owners know each other and are friendly but at the end of the day the market is competitive and “this is business”. Bu-nga says all the options are great for Nelsonians as it offers them so much choice. However, for those places that are not up to scratch, the judgement can be harsh. “People just won’t come if the service and the food and the atmosphere is not good. You have to work hard to make it work.” She says, after 10 years of building up her food empire, ‘Miracle’ will be the family’s last restaurant.

First exhibition for budding artist Charles Anderson Editor

She may only be 16-years-old but already Georgia Merry has lived a lot of life. Now, she has bared some of that on the walls at Refinery Artspace as part of her first ever exhibition. “It’s really exciting and people have been really supportive, but I find it hard to take compliments,” she says. “I don’t know what to say.” Georgia started drawing as a seven-year-old growing up in a creative household. Her mother was a music teacher and her father, Kim Merry, was the founder of the Nelson Masked Parade. “It does help having that sort of support.” Georgia began her artistic journey by drawing characters she and her friend would dream up. They would create entire back stories to them and, before long, Georgia was documenting the people she saw all around her. Wherever she went, she would take note of characters that passed her by. “I like bodies and mutations and

I like them all to be sort of the same but quite different.” Georgia dropped out of school last year but has been doing an art course through The Learning

Connection, based in Lower Hutt. Georgia says that having a regimented life like secondary school wasn’t really for her. “School also really wasn’t that

fun,” she says. “I was in a popular crowd but I was just bullied the whole way through, but I didn’t really recognise it until I left. “I’m still friends with a few people

but a lot of it was really negative.” But six months ago, family friend Maria Anderson spotted Georgia’s workbook and thought there was the makings of a promising artist. “I could see work and themes that were accessible, ideas that made me laugh and moved me,” Maria says. “Energy swirling in long figures and gangly legs of figures keen to be revealed. “Within these pages I could see subject matter that our youth of today are grappling with.” There are 65 prints and original works – many of which have already been sold. “That’s great to see.” Georgia says she would love to make a living out of her art and is working hard to make that dream a reality. She calls herself a cartoonist and is wanting to build a portfolio of t-shirt designs, but is looking for a supplier that offers sustainable, affordable products. She is inspired by Salvador Dali and sees her art as her little niche. “Everyone has a niche this is just what I do,” she says. Georgia’s exhibition is on at the Refinery Artspace on Halifax St until Saturday with all the works available for sale.

Seeking ‘birthday twins’ for 40th Staff reporter

Motorcycle man to be farewelled Charles Anderson A procession of motorcycles will escort Terry Reynolds to his final resting place tomorrow. Terry was the coordinator of the Nelson branch of the Ulysses motorcycle club, whose love of the vehicles was well-known. “It was stuff of legend,” says club secretary Allan Smith. “He would take a motorbike wherever he could. He even had a ute that he had designed with a hydraulic lift which meant he could take his bike anywhere he wanted.” Terry, 67, was taken to hospital last Wednesday in a critical condition after he fell two metres through a lift while working at the Suter Gallery. He died the following day. “He was a great guy,” says Allan. “He had a unique leadership style and would let people find their place.” At 1pm tomorrow a procession of motorcycles will accompany Terry’s coffin from Marsden House to Richmond Cemetery. He is survived by his wife Jean and son Neil.

A Nelson woman is on a mission to find the 145 "twins" who share her exact birth date before she hits 40 next year. Rebekah Cook wants to interview all the New Zealanders born on September 21, 1978, for a personal project. She wants to know what these people have experienced. "I want to ask them about what they've achieved, what they feel good about, any particular life wisdom they've learnt from different experiences and what their future goals are - what's next for them,” she says. "It's comparing where you're at in life with others to find out more about other people in my life stage. "I like seeing people at the same stage of life as me, seeing how they see the world. It just really fascinates me." Rebekah, who lives in Nelson, has already contacted 10 birthday twins overseas, seven of which replied, but she'd now like to turn her efforts to New Zealand. Statistics NZ found that 146 babies

Turning 40 is like the halfway point in life, Rebekah says. She was re-evaluating her purpose and even her career. After working in early childhood care for 21 years, she is going to study how to

be a careers adviser next year. She hopes she will be able to guide others into the right choice. "A career is a very important aspect of life. If I can help people find the right career for them, that's a biggie. "The first half my life was about ticking those boxes get the husband, child, career - now the second half of life is more about significance, it's about other people and making a difference, rather than just about myself." She says when people are

nearing the end of their lives, there are two main things which occupy their minds. "What have I achieved in my lifetime? Have I made the most of my time here on earth?" She is documenting her journey on her blog. Nelsonians are spreading the Christmas love in shoeboxes this year. Nearly 1000 shoeboxes filled with gifts are ready to be sent overseas to children living in poverty. It is part of Operation Christmas Child, a charitable scheme run by the Samaritan's Purse organisation. Boxes are filled with clothes, toys, school and personal hygiene supplies or 'something special', and are then sent to children in Papua New Guinea, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Fiji, Vanuatu and Samoa. More than 100 of the boxes from Nelson have been put together by Port Nelson, which has been participating in the scheme for three years. "It’s not hard to get people on board," says Port Nelson’s Andy Farmer. "Most people do a few boxes and work pays the $10 donation." Andy says he mentioned the idea after his daughter’s preschool once got involved. "It just grew from there, and

Christchurch in the first week of November and they will then go up to Auckland, ready to be sent to different countries. "It feels awesome," says Lynda. "Most of these children have never received a gift before and for some it really is life changing to know that someone loves them. "$20 to fill a box to us is nothing, and to them it’s everything. It’s such a simple way of making a difference."

Reflections on water… Former Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment for ten years, Dr Morgan Williams is the chair of the Cawthron Foundation and the World Wide Fund for Nature in New Zealand. He holds several other trustee and advisory positions for various environment-focused organisations and sits on Waimea Water’s Community Water Solutions Advisory Group.

Five years ago, my wife and I came to Nelson (ex Canterbury via Wellington) for the ‘good life’. Like most communities, there are protracted debates on major issues - particularly where matters of fairness, personal cost, perception of need and many potential solutions are present. An example is the long running debate about how the Waimea plains and surrounding urban areas, including Nelson City, continue to have secure water supplies in the face of growing demand and greater variability in rainfall. A safe reliable supply of fresh water is the most critical of humanities basic needs - the other two being shelter and food. This hierarchy of needs has long been recognised, hence the concentration of human settlements near good water supplies that in turn ensure reliable food production. In 2000, as Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment, I led a major study on New Zealand urban water systems published under the quirky title: Ageing pipes and murky waters: Urban water system issues for the 21st century. In the preface I concluded: “Further incremental tinkering with the current systems, without going back to first principles of community water and wastewater needs relevant to the 21st century, will simply mean the necessary changes will be harder to achieve and cost more at some time in the future. It is also likely that they will be crisis driven which is never a good substrate for rational strategic planning and cost-effective investment”. Through the study, I observed that water supply, urban or rural, is primarily a local government or private responsibility reinforced by the remarkable fact that we have no Minister of Water within central government despite having ministers for a

vast array of other areas including racing! This ‘framing’ of water provision as a local matter for local funding has, however, attracted central government’s funding for potable water supply and waste treatment systems in smaller communities but the major investments have been in hydroelectricity dams and irrigation schemes. Is this the way to effectively manage the resource that is top of our three most fundamental needs? It did not appear to be when I conducted the urban water study in 2000 - and it certainly does not 17 years later when the risks to water security are ever more obvious. With regard to the current Waimea Community Dam debate, the responsibility falls on Tasman District Council under current law (RMA and the National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management) to maintain river water quality, minimum flows and to provide safe water to its ratepayers. In simple terms the current proposal to build an augmentation dam in the Lee Valley is the means to meet several important needs - to recharge aquifers (the region’s natural, low cost storage system) and thus improve security of rural/irrigation and urban supply while at the same time maintaining the ecological health of the delivery system (Waimea River). From a scientific and economic perspective, there is good evidence supporting an ‘aquifer recharge’ solution to meet community needs. It sustains the health of a large aquifer system, needs no piping to do so, maintains river health in the process of delivering the water and continues to use all the wells and current extraction systems. This augmentation will effectively mitigate increasingly variable summer rainfall

as our climate continues to change and will reduce the risk of major water restrictions to households and businesses. Unfortunately, the means (a storage dam) to achieve what’s needed (aquifer recharge) has become the lightning rod for debates. The urgent need for the water has been sidelined in arguments about the nature of water risks in the region, perceptions of fairness and affordability, whether a source of funding is a subsidy (or not), role of central government, perceptions of regional population growth and the future of agriculture and horticulture in the region. To move into solution mode, we must focus on fundamentals such as ensuring we’re using nature’s infrastructure in the right way and optimising the ecological benefits. Here are some suggestions on topics that may assist us to resolve our collective difference on our region’s water future: • the level of public good investment for central government in water infrastructure, versus its input into areas like roading, conservation and community health • the value of water and how it should be priced • the expected minimum design life of the proposed dam and ultimate return on capital • TDC’s current spend on other major capital works projects in the region • the actual change to individual’s rates payments compared with other things rates are paying for. Local athletes ready for national games Special Olympics Nelson officially launched its entry into the National Summer Games on Saturday morning with the Law Enforcement Torch Run. Working with Nelson Police, Nelson’s special Olympic athletes and their supporters started at Nelson Police station, making their way along Halifax St before proudly marching up Trafalgar St with torch in hand. The Law Enforcement Torch Run is a global movement, involving more than 90,000 police, professionals, athletes and supporters. Two torches have been making their way around New Zealand with the torch run set to conclude in Wellington, where the National Summer Games will be held at the end of November. “It’s a launch of the games for us,” says the Special Olympics Nelson co-ordinator, Lois Aitkenhead. “And it’s to make people aware that this event is going on. “We’re taking a team of 58 Nelson athletes who will be competing in seven different sports and we’ve had to raise nearly $70,000.” This had been done mostly from the local community. Lois says it has been a three-year-long process to qualify for the games, which has included competing in local events as well as regional events. Once athletes have competed in the National Summer Games, they will also be eligible to compete internationally. It started off in Auckland and Invercargill, to launch the New Zealand Special Olympics National Games, which is happening at the end of November. “This launch is to get together and show people who don’t realise it’s for intellectually impaired people. “I think some get it confused with the Paralympics,” says Lois. The local athletes will be competing in seven different sports. At Saturday morning’s run, many members of the public offered cheers of support along the way. The group finished up at the Church Steps.

Local film-maker celebrates film festival debut Kate Russell

Now in its third year, the Top of the South Film Festival showcases the best of locally produced short films from Nelson, Tasman and Marlborough, ranging through comedy, drama, horror, experimental, thriller, noir and music video. There are six entries from Nelson this year, and ten from Marlborough. All proceeds from the festival go back to the Top of the South Film Production Society. Last year the festival raised $7584. Established in 2015, the society is a collective group of passionate filmmakers from the Nelson, Marlborough and Golden Bay regions. They are are an incorporated society established to help filmmakers collaborate and network with other filmmakers from the Top of the South region to produce high-quality films.

Garin College hostel supervisor Patsy Burke is stepping up to the big screen. The Richmond film-maker’s debut film has been selected as part of the third Top of the South Film Festival this weekend. Judges from an independent committee in Auckland selected 16 shorts for the festival, and Patsy’s six minute and 27-secondlong film, Breakthrough, was one of them. "It’s about a young girl, Aria, who contemplates suicide," says Patsy. "It takes viewers on a journey as she experiences different forms of bullying, leading her to a very dark place. "It is based it on some of my own personal experience of someone who was dear to me." Patsy says her love of films goes back a long way. "I started writing journals quite young and really started taking it seriously when I had an opportunity to write a church production. From there it just kept developing." Patsy was involved in the festival behind the scenes last year and says she is excited to be featured

Kids get ready for masked parade Kate Russell Around 3500 people are expected to hit the streets of Nelson this Friday in the annual Masked Parade, including every single student from Hampden Street School. All 499 students have embraced this year's theme, 'We are the World', with land, sea and air groups. Associate principal Lora Bai-

ley says they have taken a "very creative" approach, with a variety of interpretations of the theme. "The students have had a great time exploring and learning about the different environments and creatures within our world." Nelson City councillor Gaile Noonan says that, altogether, 15 schools, 14 commuity groups, five early childhood

centres and five individuals will be taking part this year. The parade will kick off at 5:30pm from Montgomery Square and go down Bridge St, Trafalgar St, Hardy St, Morrison St, Selwyn Pl and Church St, before finishing back in Montgomery Square. The parade will be followed by a street carnivale which includes a kids zone, food, music, street performers and more.

Misunderstanding sparks school lockdown

Wakefield Bowling Club’s Dianne Holland and New Zealand Blackjacks bowler Kirsten Edwards took to the green for the Women's Invitational Triples tournament over the weekend. Hosted at the Nelson Bowling Club, the tournament featured 48 top women bowlers from clubs all over New Zealand. “There are a lot of great players here,” says Kirsten. “It’s been lots of fun playing at the grass roots level again. Brittany Spencer A 15-year-old carrying a large knife to an "activity” was the cause of two school lockdowns and a manhunt in Nayland. Police officers were called to Neale Ave at 9.20am on Thursday after a member of the public reported seeing a male walking toward the back of Broadgreen Intermediate, carrying a large knife that "went from the hip down to the knee”. Police descended on the area and both Nayland College and Broadgreen Intermediate were placed under lockdown temporarily. Senior Sergeant Nigel McMorran says 30 minutes after the initial call, another member of the public reported seeing the boy carrying the knife on Ferguson St. "Because our cars were on Nayland Rd we shot around the corner and grabbed him.” Police arrested the 15-year-old and charged him with possession of an offensive weapon. Senior Sergeant McMorran says the boy was "carrying it [the knife] for something he was doing nearby”. However, police aren’t disclosing the explanation. "We don’t want anyone using it as an excuse,” says McMorran. "He never threatened anyone with it, but he was carrying a weapon in broad daylight and heading towards several schools, which is just not appropriate.” The young boy was referred to Youth Aid. Police apologised for any disturbance and inconvenience and thanked the schools for going into lockdown straight away and the members of the public who provided them with information.

“The old premises just weren’t big enough, we had a tiny dispensary and now we’ve got one that’s properly fitted out,” says Deirdre. “We’ve also got two consultation rooms now and a bright, spacious shop area.” The pair are incredibly proud of how far the pharmacy has come in the last nine years, “we’ve reached a point where we need two pharmacists every day, so Lynn Bell has been with us for the last three months,” says Sean. Lynn completed her training overseas before coming to New Zealand where she has experience working in and managing local pharmacies. Pharmacy technicians Pam Jackett and Leanne MacDonald are also fully qualified and are “very good at what they do.” “I’ve been a pharmacist for 23 years,” says Deirdre. “I did my training and worked in England, as well as working back home in Northern Ireland. Then we came out here 11 years ago and I worked in a couple of places before we heard that the Victory pharmacy was for sale.” Sean’s background is in law and, after teaching it in the UK, he took on an administration job

with the Department of Conservation when they settled in New Zealand, moving to a fulltime role within the pharmacy about a year ago. He is now working towards becoming a qualified pharmacy technician. Zember Phow also has a huge role within the pharmacy team, acting as their interpreter for the large Burmese community that calls Victory home. “Some of the new arrivals were still learning English and being unable to understand the use of their medicine was a concern of ours,” says Sean. “We approached the DHB and got funding for Zember’s position. She works as an interpreter here for us, however other patients come in to ask her questions. So, with our help we can answer those questions. If patients need her she goes to their health appointments and she deals with queries from the doctors and nurses too.” As well as stocking traditional pharmacy products, Victory Square Pharmacy provides a number of other services including medicine management, “so we can help people understand their medication, organise their scripts and, if needed, put it into packaging for them,” says Deirdre. Lynn and Deirdre will soon be undertaking training to become vaccinators and will most likely be offering this service from the start of next year. They also offer blood pressure monitoring and have recently received a contract to provide a comprehensive smoking-cessation service. “If anybody’s ready to stop smoking they can pop in and speak to us, we’ll go through everything with them and help and encourage them,” says Deirdre. “There’s a lot of other things that we’d like to do but that depends on funding. Pharmacy itself is going through quite a lot of change, hopefully in the next year or two there’ll be even more offered through community pharmacy, that’s why we’ve got the two consultation rooms, so that we’re ready to offer any new services.” Sean and Deirdre are proud to be a communitybased pharmacy. “When our customers come in we know them by name, we know their families and their medical history. We really feel a part

It was a little bit country at the Hope Community Church over the weekend. In its 32nd year, the New Zealand Sun City Country Music Awards brought together singers from around New Zealand for two full-on days of competition. Hosted by the Nelson Country Music Club, the competition saw 68 contestants from three-years-old up to 70 plus, performing across 29 sections. Among them was Stoke’s Bob Young who has competed in the music awards for the past decade. “I’ve loved country music all my life but I’ve only been singing it for the last 10 years. "I never had the guts to get up on stage before then,” he says. "I just come to these awards to enjoy them and if I get somewhere that’s a bonus. "I just enjoy meeting all the new people, singing my songs

Street art to take Nelson by storm Brittany Spencer Works by one of the world’s best street artists will be on display in Nelson later this month. Lucy McLauchlan, who famous street artist Banksy says “draws like an angry sparrow stuck up a tree” is bringing her ‘There Are Voices To Be Heard’ collection to Nelson City Framers for a one-off show. Her work can be found on buildings from Birmingham to Detroit and Guangzhou, China, but Lucy has never made her works available in the southern hemisphere before. Oi You! owner George Shaw says it’s a fantastic opportunity for Nelsonians. “I think it's amazing, she’s a huge hit, the biggest female street artist in the northern hemisphere, so to have her work on display in Nelson and give Nelsonians the unique chance to own a piece of work by her is pretty special.” She works on surfaces as varied as paper, motor vehicles and buildings.

George says he hopes the exhibition will inspire local artists. “All you have to do is look at the movement in her work to see what’s special about it, her brushwork is amazing and she’s just got a very unique style which resonates with a lot of people because of its fluidity. “The art scene here in Nelson is good but we can do a lot better, so getting artists of a high international standing here really shines a light on what’s possible and will hopefully inspire local artists.” The Huffington Post described her art as "a combination of art

deco and psychedelic motifs and bold graphics". Videos of Lucy at work will give people an insight into her process and will be displayed among a series of one-off linocut prints specifically for the Nelson show, along with a few limited edition screenprints. ‘There Are Voices To Be Heard - selected works by Lucy McLauchlan’ - will be on display at Nelson City Framers on Halifax St from October 27 November 18. Tasman Visual Arts Group put on a colourful show for locals over the weekend when hosting their annual spring exhibition. Around 29 artists showcased their art at Stoke Memorial Hall over three days, with acrylic, oil and water colour paintings, mixed media pieces, mosaic, book art and more. Helen Winter says she enjoys being part of the group's exhibitions, especially when people come and ask about the artworks. “It’s just about getting your art-

work out there and your name known”. Helen has been painting since 2000, joining the group when she moved to Nelson. “As a child I was always interested in drawing and all that sort of thing, coming up here and learning how to paint has been brilliant and I’ve met so many lovely people,” she says. The show offers the opportunity to see artists demonstrating and talking about different media. Sandy Waaka of Stoke also had several pieces on display. “I’ve worked in acrylics, pastels, water colour, I’ve tried a bit of everything, and then I saw a

glass paint tutorial on YouTube and I decided to have a go,” says Sandy. “I quite enjoy it, it’s just the surprises you get because you can’t really plan [the painting].” Sandy enjoys meeting the public at exhibitions. “And you see so many different types of artwork, it’s nice finding out why people do it.” The Tasman Visual Arts Group is a not-for-profit organisation, encouraging and supporting fine arts of any kind in the Nelson/Tasman area. Owners Dan and Nikki Perrin have recently been working with Mad Butcher’s head office and technical team to create a new website that allows customers to place orders online and have their fresh meat delivered to their door. The website already features a range of meat cuts, with more being added each week, plus, The Mad Butcher’s weekly specials will be available online too. Tasman will play in its third Mitre 10 Cup premiership final in just four years and if they win, it will be the province's first national title -- just 11 years after it was formed with the merger of Nelson Bays and Marlborough. Losses to Taranaki in 2014 and Canterbury in 2016 broke Tasman hearts but a repeat of last year's final, against Canterbury in Christchurch gives the Makos a shot at redemption. Tasman earned its spot in the final with a tense one-point win over top qualifiers Taranaki in New Plymouth on Saturday night on the back of a 25 point-haul from first five Mitchell Hunt.
