Increasing bus fares ‘worry’ parents MAX FRETHEY

Parents who are already living week-to-week are coming under additional financial pressure after the removal of a Government subsidy for children on public transport and the upcoming increase for the eBus service. Half-price fares for under-25s and free fares for under-13s ended on 1 May. Children aged 5-12 now pay half-price, and people aged 18-24 now pay full price on Nelson Tasman’s eBus service. Children aged 13-18 saw no change and continue to pay half-price. However, the Nelson and Tasman councils agreed last week to increase the cost of bus fares paid by Bee Card by 5 per cent from 1 July. No pain, no gain for Wairua Warriors GORDON PREECE More than 300 people unleashed their inner warrior at Nelson Obstacle Park over the weekend. David Trotter first completed the obstacle race in 2016, after campaigning to raise funds

for a purpose built, all-terrain, manual wheelchair, (the Trekenetic K-2), which is now available for others to book for the events. Aided by his team, he again took part in Aotearoa’s largest obstacle course race, the second time the annual event

was hosted at the Moutere Highway venue. Since David’s motorcycle accident more than 30 years ago, his whole life has been about overcoming obstacles – exactly what Wairua Warrior is about. Organiser Julia Kelly says the

event was “fantastic” with around 200 spectators and Nelson Tasman making up half of the competitors. “It’s a lot of work and yes, I haven’t slept for quite a while, but it was worth all the work,
