Grace Lane was born at the twilight of WW1 and went on to serve the Allied cause in WW2 as a member of the Royal Air Force. She was deployed to Egypt as part of the Middle East Force and was a member of the London Fire Brigade during the Battle of Britain. She put her life on the line and served her country. But she met a Kiwi soldier in England and, after the war, moved to New Zealand with him when she was 30 years old. She lived in Nelson for her remaining years. Until she was 96, she was an active member of the Returned Services Association. “It meant a lot to her, serving,” says her daughter Christine Paris. “She had been through a lot.” So there was no doubt that when she died Grace would be buried in the Marsden Valley Cemetery - alongside others who had served in the military. But when Christine went to apply for an official military plaque that would outline her mother’s service, she was denied. “I went through all the paperwork and hadn’t heard anything. So I called them up. The woman on the phone said ‘I’m sorry to tell you this but the

Government has pulled the plug’.” Due to recent legislation, which came into effect on 1 July 2016, Commonwealth veterans, who were previously entitled to a subsidised military plaque, are now denied that entitlement. The new Veterans’ Support Act says that the law should work to benefit those who served explicitly at the direction of

the New Zealand government. Commonwealth veterans, despite serving as part of the Allied cause in WW2, do not fit this description. The cost of the plaque, which is about $500, now has to be met by the veteran’s family or estate. “My mother was a proud member of the RSA and this has taken all that away,” says Christine. “She would have been really

upset. I think she earned it.” But her story is not unique. Earlier this month, Nelson Weekly told the story of London-born war hero John Beeching, who was set to miss out on the plaque reserved for veterans, because he has lived too long. If John, who has lived in Nelson for most of his life, had passed

When we first reported the case of local war hero John Beeching being denied a war memorial plaque it took an age for officialdom to reply. It seemed there was no strong determination about why the change had been made. The minister, David Bennett, says the newly created Veterans Support Act was to help those who served at the direction of the New Zealand government - not those at the direction of Commonwealth governments. But the Nelson Weekly could not find any recommendation anywhere that suggested the explicit change. It is an amendment that seems to have slipped under the radar - even of the Returned Services Association. It is something that will affect dozens of WW2 veterans all around the country. Many these Commonwealth vets, like the family of Grace Lane, were under the assumption that their loved ones would get the honour they deserve. Now they won’t – unless they pay for it themselves. Veterans’ Affairs describes its mission as “serving those ... who have made sacrifices to ensure New

WW2 war heros ‘deserve more’ FROM PAGE 1 away before the change, the cost to his bronze plaque would have been covered. “These vets fought for our freedom,” says local RSA president Barry Pont. “We shouldn’t even be talking about it.” He says the law change slipped under the radar of the RSA and if they had known about it they would have lobbied against it. Barry says he had about 15 such veterans in the Nelson RSA and thought there would be hundreds around

the country who were affected. “These are people who have paid taxes since the 1950s, are citizens, and we are going to begrudge them a $500 plaque?” He says it might seem like a small issue but it went to the heart of acknowledging the sacrifice that those in the military made. Veteran Affairs minister David Bennett did not respond to repeated requests for an interview. However, Labour’s veteran affairs spokesperson Clayton Cosgrove says there did not

seem to be any justification for the policy. “This is a small price to pay to acknowledge the men and women who literally put their life on the line. “We all shared the same blood in the same mud. They fought side by side. It smacks of small mindedness and penny pinching. The ode says ‘lest we forget’.” Clayton said he would support a bi-partisan measure to resolve the issue along with the RSA. “These are not issues of politics - these are issues far too important to politicise.”

So who could begrudge John Beeching, who had many near death experiences flying bombers during WW2, a military memorial on his eventual grave site? If anyone made such a sacrifice, it was him. But because he flew with the Royal Air Force he is not entitled such a memorial paid for by the Government. He has lived here for more than 50 years and paid his taxes. For all intents and purposes he is a Kiwi. So are countless others who fought for Commonwealth countries during WW2. It is understandable that there may be some hesitation from the Government to allow all Commonwealth veterans to claim such an ongoing privilege into the future. But surely an exception could be made for WW2. We think the minister should move to amend the legislation so that the few veterans of that war left can not only be buried in war cemeteries but also have a plaque that recognises the service that they gave to this country. It is the very least we could do.

Rocks Rd contractors cause cyclist safety fears Charles Anderson There are calls for contractors on Rocks Rd to remain vigilant about cyclist safety while work is carried out to repair the seawall along the State Highway. Local cyclist Jacqui Irwin recently noticed that contractors had put out signage that trespassed into the cycle lane. She said there was a real chance of “death or injury” as a result of the work. Chris Allison of Bicycle Nelson Bays said the Rocks Rd cycle lanes were very small and any encroachment could force cyclists into the way of cars. “It is not a comfortable road to cycle on.” Chris said most of the time contractors were good about

making sure there was enough room for cyclists. “But this was some really glaring stuff they were doing with the work around the Basin Reserve. We brought it up with NZTA and council and they moved really quickly.” Chris said NZTA took the work its contractors seriously. “Because it does create a safety issue … it would be really concerning if this was a pattern of bad placement creeping in, but the response we got was encouraging.” He hoped plans to remedy the cycle lanes would be pushed through quickly, but they had been stalled by investigations into the Southern Link. “But the small avoidable stuff like people putting signs across

cycle lanes - that is a no brainer. That stuff should not be happening.” A NZTA spokesperson said the agency was aware of the incident. “While it’s good that the issue was resolved quickly, the matter has been raised with contractors to ensure it doesn’t happen again.” On June 19 work will begin to resurface Rocks Rd, which will take about 10 days. Work will start at 7pm and finish by 7am. The road will be reduced to one lane with stop/go traffic management in place and a 30kmh speed restriction. During the day, the road will be open to two-way traffic but the 30kmh speed restriction will remain in place.

After years of planning, the first sod was officially turned on the $32 million Nelson Airport redevelopment yesterday afternoon. Airport officials, board members, contractors and the mayors of both Nelson and Tasman met at the old terminal to mark the occasion, which Nelson Airport CEO Rob Evans described as a “milestone” for the airport. “Our management team have lived and breathed this for the last two years, and today’s milestone is where the rubber will hit the road,” he says. Nelson Airport’s board chairman Paul Steer says it has taken a long

time for the airport to get to this point. “It’s a special day for us, and now the heavy lifting and creativity can begin.” Nelson mayor Rachel Reese congratulated the team on their hard work, and said she was looking forward to seeing the project progress. “We’re all climbing on board for this critically important regional project - and it’s no small project. These guys have really understood the value of this infrastructure for the region’s growth,” she says. The build is expected to take 18 months, and national construction firm Naylor Love will work with Fulton Hogan and local company Gibbons Construction on the build.

After sitting dormant for more than two years, the former Victory Liquor Store is getting a new lease on life as a pharmacy. The well-established Victory Square Pharmacy will be moving to the prominent corner site from their current Toi Toi St location, towards the end of September. And owners Sean and Deirdre (Dee) Magee say they will be there for the long haul after what has been “years of drama” for the Victory community. Back in 2013, the controversial Victory Liquor Store opened its doors at the site, but closed for good in 2015 after its application for a liquor licence was

withdrawn by the owners, due to opposition from the local community. Since then, the building has remained a “blight” in the heart of Victory. Originally from Northern Ireland, Deirdre and Sean moved to Nelson in 2006, and have continued a longserving reign of health-care services in the area, having run the pharmacy since July 2008. Before then, it was owned by John Reardon for more than 20 years. And, although Sean says the move wasn’t planned, they are very excited to expand their services. “We were looking out the window three or four weeks ago and saw the ‘for lease’ sign go up and thought, ‘wouldn’t that be nice’,” he says. “Now we’ve signed on the

dotted line, and we’re very excited about it. One month ago it wasn’t even on our radar.” Deirdre, who took out the title of ‘Community Pharmacist of the Year’ in 2014, says the move is timely, with the business growing “hugely” in the last nine years. “We have four to five staff on everyday now, which can be challenging in our current small dispensary,” she says. “I think it’s a mixture of population growth, and word of mouth – we have tried hard to do a good service to the community and we want to invest in pharmacy in the area.” The new pharmacy will focus on medicine, and aim to provide other services, such a medicine use reviews and Warfarin testing, in two

new consultation rooms. “At the moment we are definitely seeing the need for more healthcare services in the area, and we’d like to be able to offer that,” says Deirdre, who has been a pharmacist for 23 years. They will also develop a closer relationship with the Victory Community Centre and continue their popular interpretation service for refugees, through their Burmese interpreter Zember Phow. The building has been brought up to a new building standard of 90 per cent, and Deirdre and Sean say locals can expect to see a “complete rebrand” of the corner site. “Everything is getting done,” says Deirdre. “We’re here for the long term - it’s a community here, and that’s what we like about it.”

New chair for works and infrastructure committee: Nelson City Council has appointed an acting chair for the works and infrastructure committee with deputy chair, councillor Stuart Walker, stepping in to the role on a trial basis. Gaile Noonan knew nothing about depression or suicide when her life was turned upside down 11 years ago. The Nelson City councillor and mother of two was widowed by suicide, leaving Gaile to figure out how to move forward in uncertain times. “I was soon to learn, and quickly, that it leaves one with a whole lot more questions than answers,” she says. One thing she does know is that not talking about suicide has not helped. So she is speaking out about her personal experience in the hope that it might make a small difference. The Government is seeking submissions on a new suicide prevention strategy and Gaile penned a submission on her experience with loss. “I'd like people to know that you can survive but you have to look

after yourself. If you are not in a good way your family surely isn't going to be.” She says so many families seem to have a connection with depression.

“It’s bigger than we think and we need to stop it before it gets bad.” Every year, more than 500 people die by suicide in New Zealand. The draft proposal for public consultation outlines a framework

She says it is important that they are also offered counselling support. “I am a big believer in resilience – something I attempted to help my children learn. I believe we need to help all people to learn to be resilient.” She says her husband committing suicide was a part of the life she and her family had experienced, but it did not define them. “It is a piece of the puzzle that we have had. Four worthy causes will spread the warmth this winter after being named the recipients of a big firewood giveaway. Together, Wholesale Landscapes and Azwood Energy gave away four pallets of boxed, kiln-dried firewood blocks to four local causes, The Koha Shed, Angels Trio, Keeping Kids Warm Nelson and Tahunanui Community Centre. “We’re extremely happy with the recipients we’ve given these woodblocks to, they’ve gone to a lot of families in Nelson that are in need of some warmth this winter,” says Wholesale Landscapes' team member Tom Filmer. “A large number of people suggested worthy causes and we would have loved to have done more. Wholesale Landscapes wants to be involved in helping the community where possible and we’ve had a long line of promotions that look at assisting community organisations and

growing our community relationships.” Each pallet contained 60 boxes of Azwood dry firewood blocks. Angels Trio deciding to take nominations from their Facebook followers, before giving away their portion to 10 families in need through a live Facebook draw. The organisation has been operating for close to a year and is run by three Nelson women, Chanel Faapue, Vera Manawaiti and Lovey Paul. Chanel says there were many factors that led her to create Angels Trio, the main one being a lack of support for people when it came to meals. “When I was living over in Australia with my kids, there was nothing there, no help whatsoever with food, there was help with accommodation, but not food," says Chanel. "When I came back to New Zealand my mum was approached by church members and asked if she would go and help in a soup kitchen. Mum told me and I went and checked it out and I didn’t like it because it was only soup

On Mondays and Wednesdays, they also provide free school lunches to seven Nelson schools. Both the Sunday dinner and school lunches are funded through sausage sizzles, grants and other fundraising efforts, as well as the catering business the

ladies have recently established. Angels Trio is also in the process of creating sponsorship forms so people can help with the 146 children that require school lunches each week. For those in need of a hot meal, Angels Trio’s Sunday dinner is held from 4pm-6pm. Tahunanui Community Centre received a pallet of firewood on behalf of the Tahuna community and has distributed it amongst those in need. Glenn Bisdee from Keeping Kids Warm says he is using the wood as an emergency response. “I drop it at people’s homes before they get what I’ve ordered for them, which is a ton of firewood. Families receive around three or four boxes depending on how long it’s going to take for my order to get to them.” The Koha Shed also took nominations on Facebook before giving away the boxes to 10 families.

Coastguard robbed of life saving gear

Kate Russell Lives could have been put at risk after thieves made off with $2000 worth of specialised lifesaving equipment from Nelson Coastguard’s rescue vessel. Crucial items such as night vision goggles, two high-powered spotlights, flares, a marine VHF radio, a personal located beacon and a number of other items, were taken. The discovery was made on Saturday morning during a weekly training session, says Nelson Coastguard president Wayne Harrison. The vessel hadn’t been used since Tuesday, so he says the break-in could have happened anytime between 9pm Tuesday and 7am Saturday. “The boat was parked in the marina, and one of the guys went to bring it around to Wakefield Quay for training Nelson but saw that the padlock was Coastguard cut and on the floor, and the president security plate was on the deck – Wayne so he quickly realised someone Harrison. had broken into the vessel. “If we had been on a call-out, it would have delayed us and put lives at risk, and being a volunteer charitable organisation it comes at a great expense to replace all of these items.” And, unfortunately, insurance won’t cover it because of the excess. “The biggest item we’ll have to pay to replace is the night vision goggles, but other items can be replaced through Coastguard. But, we’re still a charity, and we’re all volunteers who have to raise money for these things,” says Wayne. “It’s just very disappointing, people think they can take things like it doesn’t matter – but it does matter. It’s frustrating. And the big thing is, if we had discovered this in the middle of the night during a call-out, we wouldn’t have been able to do our job.” Wayne says, with the help of Sunderland Marine Insurance, Burnsco Nelson and the Nelson Police, they were able to get back to operational status within a couple of hours, but they still have some of the big items to replace. Your Voice Traffic Light changes: Whilst out and about a few weeks ago, I noticed the 'Bus Only' signage had been removed near the Putaitai St/Main Road, Stoke, lights. Window screens were washed, fuel flowed, and thousands of orange tokens were dropped throughout May for this year's Good in the Hood. The charity support programme that divides $4000 between four charities through customer voting at each Z station in New Zealand has come to a close. The tokens have been counted and all the charities involved were winners, with the public choosing how the combined total of $8000 was to be shared. From the Z Rutherford site, the Child Cancer Foundation were the big winners, taking home $1335.30, St John received $895.40, Victim Support Nelson $890.30, and Big Brothers Big Sisters took home $879.00 to help match more local children with volunteer mentors. "We had a great time washing windows and interacting with the customers," says St John's Robbie Blankenstein. "It was a lot of fun.”

Two well-known Nelson mountainbikers are now movie stars after featuring in an award-winning film about an epic rafting and biking adventure from St Arnaud to Kaikoura. Photographer Grant Stirling and mountainbike park designer Damian Stones joined former Nelson adventurer Deane Parker, Christchurch film director Simon Waterhouse and raft guide Samuel Jones on the six-day journey in February this year. Damian produced a short film about their adventure titled Waiau-toa Odyssey which last week won the Hiddleston MacQueen award for best New Zealand-made film at the New Zealand Mountain Film Festival. Grant says they started in St Arnaud and mountainbiked wilderness tracks and pack-rafted down white water rivers to Kekerengu, just north of Kaikoura. They carried small, one-person packrafts, life jackets and paddles on the

He still plays in the Nelson Brass Band, has served as a Freemason for more than 70 years and volunteers for Arthritis NZ after developing two forms of arthritis.

Along with his partner Sue, Maurice leads an active life and part of it is volunteering at the Ngawhatu swimming pool, where he is a trained lifeguard. “But I only save the ladies,” he joked. Last week he and Sue spent two hours at Z petrol station in Halifax St, where he worked as a “community concierge” washing windows and greeting customers. He handed out orange tokens which his customers could use to vote for Arthritis NZ and help the charity receive cash from Z, through its Good in the Hood promotion. Maurice says he got relief from his treatment so wanted to give back, but he wasn’t sure if he’d be offered a job after his efforts. “Sue’s right into it and I just follow along, but when people respond you feel good.”

Simon says one of the biggest challenges was carrying the heavy camera equipment, as well as the rafts, on their bikes. The loaded bikes already weighed 30kg so they had to carry only the most minimal camera kit, including a tiny drone to capture the whole journey. Nelson during war taken to stage The lives of those here in Nelson in the 1940s make up the story behind this year’s annual Soundstage show, “Rosie can do it!”, onstage at the Theatre Royal for a limited season on June 23 and 24 at 7pm. Initially inspired by the iconic WW2 image of Rosie the Riveter, “Rosie Can Do It!” is the story of

what happened here in Nelson while the war was in progress overseas. Written and compiled by Soundstage director Jane Winter, along with additional script by Mike O’Malley and the team at Soundstage, this show is based on real events and uses the music of the era to tell the story of Rosie and

Dan, played by Mackenzie Gardner and Yitzin Ruiz Lopez. In researching content for this story, cast members sought out to interview local woman who were living and working in Nelson at the time of World War Two. Jane Winter, now based in Sydney where she works as an entertainment agent, based the script

on the stories that were compiled from those interviews. “The stories that we gathered from interviewing locals have made this history feel real to us”, she said. “Stories about how you needed to line up for rations like toilet paper and stockings, how the letters you received from loved ones had words cut out of them due to se-

Nelson painting company Total Decorating cleaned up at the national Master Painter awards in Auckland earlier this month winning eight gold medals.

The ten-strong team at Total Decorating won medals across the board for exterior painting on a house, interior painting in new houses, interior painting in renovated homes and wallpapering. Owner Aaron Mallinson says the number of gold medals they won was a shock. “I wasn’t even going to go to the awards but I got a phone call suggesting it would be in my interest to do so. So I thought we might be in the hunt for one, I was shocked that we won so many.” He says the win was validation for what has been a few years of hard work. “The team we have here now are great and that’s the reason. But we’ve spent years getting

A diverse range of local artwork is set to warm up the Stoke Memorial Hall this weekend, in Art Group Nelson’s annual winter exhibition. Richmond artist Nicole Russell is just one member of the group who will be showcasing her work, alongside around 50 artists who will be exhibiting oil, watercolour, acrylics, mixed media, mosaic and woodwork. The full-time artist draws her inspiration from the water, having spent time living in the

USA and sailing for two years, before settling in Nelson. She specialises in seascapes, boats, landscapes. “I paint with watercolours, and more recently, oils, and a lot of my art comes from my sailing trips, and I love it here in Nelson with the water,” she says. Nicole says the public can expect a diverse range of work, with each member allowed to display six paintings. “It will definitely be full and there will be something for everyone’s taste. We have a huge diversity of members, who bring all sorts of artwork and different techniques,” she says.

Age just a number for pool whizz-kid SporTS Jacob Page Zarrie Wood was nicknamed '8-ball' in the womb, so it is no surprise she’s turning heads on the pool table. The 15-year-old Nelson Suburban Club pool player won the 8-ball women’s pairs title at the South Island Championships at just 15-years-old last weekend. The Nayland College pupil and her partner, 17-year-old JoJo Coleman, became the youngest duo to claim a title of that kind in New Zealand. Zarrie was meant to play in the championships with her mum Jane but, when she became ill, Zarrie teamed up with JoJo and created history, coming back from 3-0 down to claim the best of seven frame match 4-3. "I’m a good player and Zarrie’s father is a good player, and when I was pregnant with Zarrie I was playing in the Nelson reps and (the team) nicknamed her '8-ball' and people still ask me now ‘how’s 8-ball doing’? So it’s just one of those things that has

feat, yet alone two teenagers taking the title. “All they needed was to pot that

last black and it’s over, but playing with JoJo really balanced us out and when we got it back to 3-3 we felt we had the momentum,” Zarrie says. Zarrie says with her parents both top players, she took up the sport at 10-years-old and has flourished ever since. Last year, Zarrie was named the most promising player at the 2016 nationals. The family’s new home had a room specifically built to house the pool table. “I play every Thursday night at the Suburban Club but I try to play as much as I can at home. “I’ll have dinner and then play a couple of games, or if I have 15 minutes before school in the morning then I’ll play,” Zarrie says. “I’ve always had a passion for it and it’s something different from what others do. Zarrie will continue to train towards the national championships and has plans to compete internationally when she is older.

ChaTham Cup: Nelson Surburbs have drawn fellow Mainland Premier League team Coastal Spirit, in Nelson, in the third round of the Chatham Cup. The game will be played on the weekend of June 24-25. NeTball: Nelson Netball and the Trafalgar Centre will host the firstever Super Club netball competition this July. The event will run from July 2 to 7 and will feature eight teams from Europe, Africa, the Americas and Oceania. The top three teams from the ANZ Premiership will qualify for the tournament. FooTball: A 10-man Nelson Suburbs team beat Nomads 4-1 in their Mainland Premier League match at Saxton Fields on Sunday. The win keeps their faint title aspirations alive. Rugby: Nelson retained the Moascar Cup with a 22-10 win over Rangiora High School in their UC Championship rugby match at Nelson College on Saturday. Waimea Combined lost to Marlborough Boys’ College 23-22 in Blenheim.

Phill Jones ‘humbled’ with No 13 retirement Jacob Page Sports Editor

Phill Jones looked up at his newly retired No 13 Nelson Giants singlet and said there would be no more come-backs. The face of the Giants franchise confirmed that, despite coming out of retirement three years ago and even filling in when import Kyle Adnam was injured for a couple of games in 2017, his singlet would not see active competition again. “Yes, this is it and no, there is no circumstance out there (that will make me come out of retirement.” The retirement of his and former player/coach and owner Nenad Vucinic’s No 4, means no player will ever wear those numbers for the Nelson Giants again. “It’s pretty humbling to be recognised in that regard. “When you think about guys who have had their numbers retired, maybe not in the NBL but in other sports who have contributed to other sports organisations around the world, it means a lot. Phill’s number was retired along

“Nenad is definitely one of those characters who hates individual honours, especially for himself, and I’ve grown to understand it. And as I’ve gotten older I’ve understood that team mentality and

how important it is to know that it’s a group of guys that make all this possible.” Phill played an extra 39 games for the Giants after announcing his first retirement three years ago.

From 1993 to 2017 he played 22 seasons and 398 games for the Giants to go with 10 games with Otago in 1999. He won NBL titles in 1994 and 1998 and played professionally in Finland, Greece, Italy and Australia. He played for the Tall Blacks in two Olympic campaigns and three World Championships between 1994 and 2010 with the Tall Blacks. Nenad played for the Giants between 1990 and 2000 amassing 227 games which included five seasons as a player/ coach. He coached 237 games and won the NBL title as a player in 1994, a player/coach in 1998 and a coach in 2007. He then went on to coach the Tall Blacks and now coaches overseas. The Giants were not able to prevent the Wellington Saints from completing the first unbeaten NBL regular season ever, going down 82-67 in a performance which showed heart but little fire left in the bellies. Finn Delany was rightfully named Giants MVP for 2017, while Aussie import Kyle Adnam was named the Supporters MVP decided by fan votes.

Saxton Range - the new home for target shooting Jacob Page Target Shooting Nelson’s new $450,000 facility looks set to put the sport on the map. The new facility at Saxton Fields, opposite Saxton Oval, was officially opened on Saturday, with the national body of the sport confident Nelson would host many national meets in the future. The club has had to fundraise for the project itself with no council funds used to get the inside of the building completed. “There’s been more than 2000 man hours from volunteers and a lot of businesses around the region have been very generous,” club president Alan

Gibbs says. Rachel McLean is one of the top shooters in Nelson and a New Zealand Smallbore representative who had her second open championships win a fortnight ago. The 34-year-old says she has loved the sport ever since she started it at age 12. “I had been very sick... Before that I was a very active kid but I didn’t have the stamina to play traditional sports and my nurse, whose son was a shooter, took me to the range and I was hooked.” Rachel suffered from Toxoplasmosis – a parasitic disease picked up from coming into contact with cat waste. Rachel

says she loves the social aspect of the sport. She says the sport is more mental than physical. “It’s very disciplined, you have to take into account your breathing and keep your shoulders relaxed, because if one of those things are out of the ordinary it can really affect your score.” The other thing she likes about the sport is how it is done on an even playing field. “The great thing about it is that women can beat men and age isn’t a factor. “I know some days I shoot really well and the next I have lost my rhythm a little bit and people beat me. “It’s all part of why I love the sport.

The front runners for the title whole competition came unstuck thanks to a Dan Hytongue try in the last play of extra time. “We were disappointed we lost but we weren’t devastated – the performance was pretty good, especially to come back from 2-7 down, it gave us a lot of positives for the rest of the season. the field but also some of our younger guys have been our most impressive players.

The former Christ’s College pupil says the final was physically exhausting but the team walked away knowing they had done all they could to win. “There wasn’t much left in the tank after the final whistle but we know that we are capable of getting better. Chris says he was eager to see his team go one step further than their runnersup effort in the 2016 Nelson Bays Division One final, where they lost to Wanderers. “It’s a weird thing losing a final in the middle of the season and it all depends on whether you win the Tasman Trophy final that becomes important, and if you don’t, it’s all about winning the Nelson Bays competition and that’s where our focus will be now.”
