From $10 t-shirts to $10,000 radio promotions, Nelson’s four mayoral candidates collectively poured more than $55,000 into

their bids to run the city in the 2016 local body elections. But figures released by Nelson City Council have revealed that the biggest spender does not always win the prize. That was the case for Pete Rainey, who spent more on his mayoral

campaign than his main rival, Rachel Reese, but received less than half the votes that she did. Election candidates are required to declare the amount they spend on campaigns and any donations over $1500. Pete spent a total of $28,412

and received 5,050 votes. Radio advertising was his biggest expense at $9,858.52. Rachel spent $27,958.64 and romped home to retain the mayoral chains with 11,364 votes. Both were close to the $30,000 spending limit. Much of Rachel’s spend came

from donations, where Pete did not declare any donations. Pete says it was “a lot of money” to spend but it was for a cause he believes in. “There are so many people in our

The average house recieved 19 pieces of unsolicited advertising and promotional material. However, Jaslyn says it wasn’t just the sheer volume that surprised her, but the number of pieces printed on glossy paper, particularly advertising from political parties. “It doesn’t break down as easy, you can’t even compost it, it’s harder to biodegrade, and people don’t like using it for their winter fires because glossy paper is a lousy fire starter.” For his part Matt Lawrey, of the Green Party, says all its promotional material is printed on

biodegradable glossy paper with vegetable oil-based ink. In a survey the girls also asked about peoples’ attitudes towards junk mail. They asked: “How would you feel is there was no more junk mail?” The response was almost unanimous. “We had three people who said they’d be sad if they didn’t receive any but the other 26 said they’d love it,” says Caitlin. “The only people we found who liked junk mail were men who just wanted to check out the latest tools from trade places.” The junk mail was made up of material from 46 different companies, organisations, and political parties, with The Warehouse, joint businesses Briscoes and Rebel Sport, and Smiths City being the highest producers. The Warehouse put out 23 pieces of glossy junk mail, Briscoes and Rebel put out 23 pieces “plus a whole lot of plain paper junk

mail”, and Smiths City produced 17 pieces. The next step for the girls, who started their ‘No Junk Mail June’ project to find a way to make Nelson more sustainable, is to approach the three leading junk mail distributors with their data and discuss alternate and more environmentally friendly advertising methods. “I don’t think companies are aware of just how much is out there,” says Fiona. “So our main aim is to make them aware of the amount being produced when people don’t actually want it, the effect on people and the environment, and alternatives like using standard paper, online platforms and email.” In the meantime, the trio recommend a simpler strategy. They suggest residents should put ‘No Junk Mail’ stickers on their letterboxes or sign up to receive junk mail online through Ecomailbox.

charges after shooting Police have laid charges against a man they shot in the elbow following an incident last week in Nelson. The 34-year-old man was arrested on outstanding warrants for unrelated incidents. He was also charged with unlawfully being on a property. The man was stopped by officers about 1.15am after he was seen driving erratically. He ran off but was tracked by a police dog to a property in Waimea Rd. The man told the dog handler he had a gun. Armed officers were called and then entered the property. The man threatened the officers, who fired one shot and hit him in the elbow. He was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Highest polling councillor Tim Skinner paid his two sons $250 to deliver his brochures, while Gaile Noonan and deputy mayor Paul Matheson used the photography services of fellow candidate Tim Skinner. Meanwhile, unsuccessful candidate Robbie Kavanagh spent $100 on rosette badges, while Eric Davy invested $575 in Giggle TV. Mel Courtney spent the most on his council campaign with $19,328, which he started a year out from the election. But it paid off and earned him a seat on council after a threedecade hiatus. “I don’t think it’s necessary to spend that much to earn a seat on council, but I did it to re-establish myself because I hadn’t been on council for 30 years,” he says. “But I was very happy with the outcome and thoroughly enjoyed the campaign.” Perhaps it was the $230 he spent on fridge magnets.

An organisation promoting an ideology it calls “Nelsonianism” is advocating for the top of the South Island to secede from New Zealand. However, it is raising eyebrows for its darker theories about the region’s future. “United Nelsonia” says its mission is to “transform Nelsonia into a strong, cohesive and independent sovereign state”. It describes this region as the whole top of the South Island, incorporating much of the West Coast and Kaikoura. Its website and Facebook page says the three pillars of Nelsonianism are “political sovereignty, economic independence, and social justice”. It is not clear who runs the sites as requests by the Weekly for comment went unanswered. The Facebook site spends its time sharing articles about how the region should create economic sustainability, by constructing a new deep water port at Wakapuaka or starting a “school of artisan food”. However, it does not take

cil coordinator Jenni Bancroft. “It’s a bit sad - you’ve always got these people in your community. “There is always an element out there. It’s not realistic to expect everyone to be nice and welcoming and globally thinking.” Jenni says that she has spoken to various religious and cultural groups who are wary of making their contact details public because they have had some “dreadful experiences”. “It saddens me, even in Nelson.” Jenni has been in the role for about five months and has been working on various projects to promote positive race relations. The council was undergoing a revamp of “Speak Out Nelson” which was launched in 2010 as a safe way to report racist incidents in the region. “It’s important in providing a safe and easy way for people to report their problems,” Jenni says. “[Victims] are not always comfortable having to put a face into the arena. Several hundred people attended the event at the Trafalgar Centre where party co-leader James Shaw announced a policy to give every New Zealander access to clean, safe drinking water with measures including making water bottlers and exporters pay for the water they take and sell. A Nelson City councillor is calling a satirical flyer about the Brook Sanctuary pest control poison drop a “dirty play” and has reported it to police. Tim Skinner says the flyer, which purports to be a publication called “Brook News”, has been delivered to various neighbourhoods around Nelson. It alleges, in inflammatory terms, that the Brook Valley Community Group is opposed to the Brook Sanctuary. “It might be only a tiny bit of rat poison but this is the opportunity to shut the sanctuary down dead once and for all,” the flyer reads. The sanctuary has been preparing for a drop of brodifacoum-laced bait to help curb pests within its fences. It was signed off at a council hearing last year and had been subject to an environmental report. It seems to be a satirical take on some of the positions taken by various community groups. However, Tim says the flyer undermines his credibility as a “sensible city councillor”. “It is becoming very concerning to me, as it has my name on it [and] falsely claims to link me with extremist conspiracy views. “It is an example of dirty play taking place. I would be very interested to find the author and nip it in the bud.” Tim says it is “definitely not” from the Brook Valley Community Group, nor any of its 150 members. “I believe it possibly someone upset with those protesting the poison drop.” However, Tim says he is not linked with any group despite opposing the drop. “I stand on my own two feet.” Tim says he has also informed the police.

Cycling has become a major draw-card for the region’s tourists with the Great Taste Trail’s wow-factor being recognised with a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence last month. Launched in 2010, the Certificate of Excellence awards from TripAdvisor, one of the world’s most visited travel websites with 38 million unique visitors each month, r e c o g n i s e s Gill Wratt. services and attractions that “deliver consistently great service”, based on user reviews and ratings. “It was a total surprise,” says Cycle Trail Trust chair Gill Wratt. “But this is why we did it – not the recognition, of course, but to provide people with a great ride.”

Since opening the first section of the Great Taste Trail in 2011, a 1.6km path linking Nelson and Richmond along the Richmond Deviation, the number of great rides and great reviews continues to grow. TripAdvisor comments that helped them secure the award include: “Absolutely spectacular,” from a Wellington rider. “Great Taste Trail is really great,” from Melbourne and “excellent 3-day bike ride,” from a UK tourinst. Despite significant milestones, including the coastal section along the Waimea

Estuary, historic Spooners Tunnel and the extension to Kaiteriteri and the mountain bike park, Gill acknowledges that the trust’s work is not over. However, Stuart Hughes, who has been a key project driver after seven years as a trustee, chairman and project manager, is ready for someone else to pick up the mantel. “Stuart has done an amazing job. In seven years we’ve gone from nothing to something we can all be proud of as a region”, says Gill. “He has worked wonders bringing private landown-

ers, businesses and the local community on board”. However, Stuart says that credit needs to go to the whole team who has worked with him for the past seven years. “It has given me such a feeling of satisfaction. A highlight was definitely getting Spooners Tunnel open”. Up to 240 users a day have been riding through the tunnel, according to most recent figures. While acknowledging that he leaves big shoes to fill, Gills says that the trust is currently on the lookout for a new project manager to be the local Great Rides trail manager, who will work with both councils to help develop the cycle network. Gill says that the next stages of the Great Taste Trail will be the connection from Wakefield to Wai-iti Domain and Norriss Gully to Kohatu within the next year, and then on to Tapawera.

A man came in off the street and wondered if Paul might teach his wife, who suffered from the disease. “I had already been reading up

about it,” Paul says. “I found it really interesting.” He got in touch with a researcher at the University of Indianapolis, who had looked at the benefit of boxing for Parkinson’s sufferers, and put together a programme. “I tailored it to suit these guys’ needs,” Paul says. “The feedback is that it is really working for them.”

An organisation in the United States called "Rock Steady" has been offering a similar course for more than a decade. Now it has hundreds of affiliates around the world. Paul recruited his mum Annie, who is a registered nurse, to sit in on the sessions to make sure it is safe. Even she can see the difference in the group.

On an unusually cold Thursday morning, a support group of a different kind is getting gloved up while listening to a revolving playlist of Neil Diamond, Johnny Cash and Shania Twain. It’s not your typical boxing soundtrack. That’s because this twice-weekly group of men and women do not seem like your typical boxers. Every one of them has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease - a degenerative movement disorder which can cause deterioration of motor skills, balance, speech and sensory function. “Come on, guys,” says Victory Boxing’s Paul Hampton. “Keep working.” The group moves over to the heavy bags and begin punching. “This works,” says Bob Chase, who is originally from Hawaii. “Just imagine it’s Trump.” He was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Parkinson’s about three years ago but has found the boxing a welcome addition to his week.

“They are stronger and they can tell if they haven’t been in a couple of weeks.” Bob Lynch, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 15-years-ago, says boxing does things other types of exercise do not. “It’s not so much to do with the legs. It’s using the top half and you have to think about numbers and timing. It’s quite different.” He says the group has become a type of support group. “It’s great camaraderie.” Parkinson’s New Zealand community educator Claire Fisher says exercise is great for sufferers as it stimulates dopamine, which helps with motor action. There are about 100 people in this area on the organisation's books and the hope is that more will get involved with the programme. “The gym is for everybody. It's a community place,” says Paul. “If people feel like we can help them, then we will.” And he is learning from the experience, too. “I love it, the guys are great. I learned a lot more about country music, too. "But their taste for Shania Twain is a bit weird."

The Nelson Miniature Show convenor Jeanette Dungan says viewers might be surprised at some of the everyday items that they’ll discover at what will be their seventh show, this weekend. “There will be lots of quirky items – steampunk, an Egyptian pyramid, gypsy caravans, fantasy gourd houses, peddler barrows and minia-

ture embroideries.” She is also hoping the show will encourage people to join the club. “Miniatures can be a great stress reliever and it can be very inexpensive if you’re a D-I-Y person and have the necessary machinery on hand – or it can be very expensive if you want the best of everything.” A free rock painting workshop for children will be running on offer, as well as an ‘elf-on-the-shelf ’ counting competition. The Nelson Miniature Show is on this Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm at the Stoke Memorial Hall. Adults $5, Children $2.

Young children explore Tasman

Simon Bloomberg Jimmy Lee Creek and the Tasman Great Taste Trail were added to the growing list of Toyota Kiwi Guardian adventure sites aimed at encouraging young children to get off the couch and start exploring the natural environment. Toyota Kiwi Guardians is an outdoor activity programme run by the Department of Conservation in partnership with Toyota New Zealand and already has 60 sites around the country. Last Friday, Nelson celebrated its first “guardian sites” when primary children and representatives from DOC, Toyota, Keep Richmond Beautiful and Richmond Native Bird Recovery explored Jimmy Lee Creek in Richmond. DOC Community Ranger Sally Leggett says children and their families can visit the new sites and, using the Kiwi Guardians activity maps, enjoy a range of activities. They can also find the new guardian posts at each site and record the unique code, and enter it online to receive an “adventure medal”. “They can spot birds feeding in the Waimea Inlet, learn about the hardy godwit, ride over an awesome suspension bridge on the cycle trail; check for weta in a weta hotel, search for ancient rocks with fossilised shells in them and look for birds up close in a bird hide at Jimmy Lee Creek,” Sally says. The new site on the Tasman Great Taste Trail can be accessed from Sandeman Reserve at Sandeman Rd off Lower Queen St, while Jimmy Lee Creek starts on Hill St just south of Queen St in Richmond. David Eagle from Bowater Toyota says they are happy to be part of a programme that is “enabling and motivating kids to get back into nature”. Toyota has teamed up with DOC, the Tasman District Council and the Tasman Cycle Trail Trust to establish the two sites in Nelson. Cycle trust winds up, gives money to locals A school and a charity set up to honour a much-loved mountain biker have benefited from the winding up of the Nelson Cycle Festival Trust. The trust – which was established in 2013 to organise festival events as a way of promoting Nelson as a cycling destination – recently concluded that it was no longer economic to continue. It decided to distribute its remaining funds to Nelson Intermediate and the Kelly McGarry Foundation, which was set up by his family and friends after the renowned mountain biker died last year while riding near Queenstown. The school received $2500 for its school bike programme, while the foundation got $3100 to help with the development of McGazzaland Bike Park in Wakefield, where Kelly was born. Kelly gained international fame at the 2013 Red Bull Rampage for a daring 22m backflip across a canyon which has been viewed more than 33 million times on Youtube. The run earned him a silver medal and the People’s Choice award. The foundation has since raised

money for various mountain biking projects throughout New Zealand, including McGazzaland, which will be based near his home town of Wakefield. Foundation chairman Fraser Gordon says it was "pretty awesome’’ to get a grant from the trust, which would be added to the $10,000 the foundation has already allocated to McGazzaland. The project involves building an asphalt pump track, jumps and skills area on a site behind the town’s recreation reserve. Fraser says they were in the final stages of getting approval from Tasman District Council and hoped to begin construction by the end of the year and have it completed a few months later. "It will be a place where kids and their parents can go along to practise their bike skills in a safe environment.’’ Fraser says Kelly would be “stoked’’ by the project. "Kelly was very outgoing and always keen to help build trails and encourage and coach kids. "This project would be right up his alley, particularly as it’s in his home town.’’ Nelson Intermediate principal

Hugh Gully says the school was "surprised and delighted’’ to receive the money which would go towards purchasing three mountain bikes to replace older ones, tools and spare parts to help maintain its 20-bike fleet and realigning its mountain bike track behind the school gym to include some jumps. "Nelson Intermediate’s programme has been very successful and Kelly was a great supporter of the Nelson Cycle Festival.’’ He says the trust – as a promotional umbrella for individual bike races and events – relied on grants to operate, but these had become more difficult to get so the decision was made to dissolve and distribute its remaining funds.

Nelson Orthodontics is proud to showcase its new Waimea Rd surgery, including a brand-new spacious waiting room for patients. surgery’s Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) scanner and Intra Oral scanner. Nelson Orthodontics is one of a very few orthodontic practices in New Zealand to integrate this technology into their surgery. The CBCT machine provides a 3D image of the mouth and jaws, offering far more detailed images than what can be achieved with an x-ray. As a result, Nelson Orthodontics is welcoming a number of other dental practices and specialists within the region into their surgery to use the technology for their own patients. The Intra Oral scanner is linked through the internet to a company called Suresmile, so, after a scan is taken, it is sent electronically to the USA to be produced. 3D imaging, treatment planning software and robots are used to create the wires, before they are couriered back to Nelson Orthodontics. Previously the wires would have

been fitted by hand by Nelson Orthodontics, however this new technique can decrease the time required to complete the treatment and increase the precision of the results. Another advancement in technology offered by Nelson Orthodontics is Invisalign treatment where teeth are moved by clear aligners, like a thin mouth guard. The aligners are both as close to invisible as it is possible to get and can be taken out for cleaning and eating and are a great option in many situations, especially adults considering orthodontic treatment. Conveniently located between Nelson College and Nelson College for Girls on Waimea Road, Nelson Orthodontics has been situated here since 1991. This was the first major refurbishment of the surgery and represents a significant investment for Andrew Lush and Andrew Marriott. Orthodontics literally means ‘straight teeth’, but as Andrew

Lush explains, misaligned teeth and an uneven bite can cause their owners issues beyond appearance. They increase the risk of dental cavities, excessive/uneven wear and assorted gum and mouth problems, which can sometimes be painful. “Teeth are meant to last a lifetime and our role is to help develop strong, healthy, straight teeth that will do their job for as long as possible,” says Dr Lush. “Equally if not more importantly, we see patients gain the confidence to smile and feel better about themselves generally. Ted remembers taking on the Lions Simon Bloomberg Reporter

The British and Irish Lions tour is bringing back fond memories for one of oldest surviving players who battled the Lions when they made their first post-war tour of New Zealand and Australia. Retired Hope farmer Ted Eden, 91, played for the Nelson Marlborough Golden Bay Motueka Combined team against the 1950 Lions at Trafalgar Park on May 10, 1950. It was the Lions first game of their 29-match tour of New Zealand and Australia, and the diminutive Waimea half back says it was a big occasion for the players and the town. “The Lions were here for a whole week before the game so there was plenty of excitement around the town,” Ted says. “We had dinner with the Lions in the Nelson Hotel and there were all these English journalists following us around trying to find out about our team and what we were like. “There was a big crowd at the Ted Eden with his old rugby team photos, including the one of the Nel- game too. Ted Eden, top row centre, in the team photo before he played against the Lions. centrate on the game.” Although Ted says the Combined side contained a number of “very good Nelson players”, including Maori All Black Bill Taylor, Nick Gargiulo and Ian Leggatt, the Lions were too good, scoring two tries and six penalties to win 24-3. “They had big forwards and we didn’t get much ball. I was lucky I could tackle alright because I had to do a fair bit of it. “But I thought we gave them a good go. You only got three points for a try back then but the score was still close enough.” Ted also says they faced an uphill battle after being reduced to just 14 men for most of the match. But unlike the All Blacks who were down to 14 men after a player was sent off in last Saturday’s test, the Combined side lost their player to injury.

“We lost our flanker (K Lammas) with a broken leg. You couldn’t replace players back in those days so, if someone went off injured, that was it.” Ted’s other enduring memory from the game was sprinting after speedy Lions winger Malcolm Thomas as he raced away for a try. Ted enjoyed a laugh when he learned afterwards that legendary radio commentator Winston McCarthy broadcast that “the only one chasing is Ted Eden with his little legs going like pistons”. Sixty-seven years later, Ted says he thoroughly enjoyed watching the Lions latest tour. “The Lions are a good side to watch and it certainly brings back memories. It’s also a bit sad though because there are not too many of that Combined side left – it was such a long time ago.”

Use the free energy from the sun to dry clothes on an outside line, instead of in an electric dryer. You could save around $200 annually (and it costs nothing to do this).

Use Good Wood. This means dry wood with less than 25% moisture, left long enough after cutting to dry out before using it.

Use the right wood at the right time. Lighter wood (Pine or Douglas Fir) is good for kindling. Dense wood (Gum) burns longer and gives more heat once the fire is burning.

Check your shower usage. If the water from it fills a bucket in less than a minute you could save around $150 annually by changing to an efficient showerhead. Keep your showers short – in a household of three, each extra minute of shower time costs about $80 annually.

Store your wood properly – split and stack in a criss-cross pattern for good ventilation and keep in a covered, dry place.

Burning things like wet wood, plastic, rubbish or treated wood, is banned. It can create toxic fumes and damage your burner.

Turning off appliances left on standby saves around $125 annually.

Washing your clothes in cold water rather than warm water could save $65 annually.

STEP ONE for a good fire: When preparing to light your fire leave a bed of ash, put scrunched newspaper in the bottom, add small bits of kindling, add larger pieces of dry wood as fire catches hold.

Stop heat escaping, and draughts, with DIY double glazing and good thick curtains.

Nelson’s newest theatre company is proving that sometimes love isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Nelson Theatrix will be performing its revue style concert ‘Love in the Spotlight’ at the end of July at the Theatre Royal. A cast of seven singers and a band of five will take audiences on a journey through the different stages of falling in love – from happiness to heartbreak. It will feature 21 songs, ranging from classical to contemporary musical theatre. These include West Side Story, Chess, Into the Woods, Company, Beauty and the Beast, Hairspray, Dear Evan Hansen and more. The show’s creator, Jessica D’Ath, says she is thrilled to be able to bring the show to Nelson audiences, particularly with such a professional cast and crew. “There is so much talent in Nelson, and we have got to support these people to be able to perform in shows that really show off what they can do. Love in the Spotlight is definitely going to do just that. “Audiences can expect some

Marist will arrive at Trafalgar Park this Saturday afternoon as certain underdogs -- but it will have no greater motivation than to tip up its bitter rivals in a semi-final. Galbraith Group Nelson confirmed its ranking as top qualifier in the Car Company Nelson Bays division one competition after holding off Wanderers 36-33 over the weekend. It will host the first semi-final at Trafalgar Park, a ground both Marist and Nelson call home. Nelson co-coach Chris Pugh says, after getting some of their injured players back last week, they’ve now lost a few more. “We had to take a few guys off to manage injuries so we won’t be at full strength this weekend, but we’ll be close and whoever we put on the

Claudia Green has taken another big step in her cricketing career and now there are just two steps to go before she reaches her ultimate goal. The former Waimea College and Wakatu cricketer has just been named in the New Zealand women’s open indoor team to play in the World Cup in Dubai in September. Although Claudia is excited about the prospect of playing indoor cricket for New Zealand, she remains focused on her goal of representing her country in the traditional form of the game. “I’ve been in the Central Districts Under-21 team for the last four years and now I’ve made the New Zealand indoor team which is really exciting,” she says. “But I need to keep improving because I’d would love to make the women’s CD team and then play for New Zealand – that’s my dream.” A right-arm swing bowler and mid to lower order batter, Claudia concedes she was surprised to be named in the team for the World Cup. The Canterbury team she was playing for didn’t perform well and Claudia thinks it was her all-round game that caught the eye of the selectors. “It was a shock when they read

We didn’t do very well but I think my bowling and my fielding got me selected – my batting was okay.” Claudia, who is studying physical education and psychology at Otago University, started playing cricket for Jon Linyard’s Waimea Intermediate girls team. She continued playing for the Waimea College girls team before switching to the Wakatu men’s second grade team and then the Taieri men’s second grade team when she moved to Dunedin.

“I had to start playing in the men’s teams to get a reasonable standard of cricket. There weren’t any good women’s teams in Nelson and there’s none in Dunedin, so a lot of the girls play for men’s teams.” Claudia started playing indoor cricket at Action Indoor Sports in Richmond when she was 14 and says she enjoys the speed and intensity of the game. It also ensures she can keep her cricketing skills finely tuned during the winter months.

“I’ve always enjoyed it. You have to be good at making quick decisions because of the speed and intensity of the game – it’s a bit like a faster version of T20.” Although Claudia has worked hard at her game, she says she has been fortunate to receive excellent coaching from Jon and her uncles, Matt and Aaron McCauley, and Warren Brown. She has also had plenty of support from her parents and from Nelson Forests who are helping with her travel to Dubai.

Andrew Board Richmond Rabbits' centre Sam Hedges scored four of his side's five tries in its 44-30 win over the Wanderers Wolves in the Tasman Rugby League grand final at Champion Field on Saturday. Sam, a local star with the Rabbits and Tasman Titans, said after the game that it was the best of his four titles. "This is the best because in the past years we've had a strong team and plenty of depth so we were sort of expected to win. But this year we only had four players at the start of the year. We didn't know if we'd have a team. So to pull it together and win today is the most rewarding, because I thought this was mission impossible at the start of the year."

At the start of the season, Jesse Walker had a rugby league championship on his mind – it just happened to be in London, not Nelson. Jesse spent two years in the UK playing for the West Warriors rugby league side. There he won a championship in 2016 and his team qualified for the prestigious Challenge Cup competition, where the Warriors reached the third round, the furthest any Londonbased amateur team has made it in the competition. But an expired visa found the 24 year-old builder leaving his teammates and heading back home to Nelson. “I wasn’t even thinking of playing when I got back because it was half way through the season and the teams I played for before I left [the Tahunanui Tigers and Stoke Cobras] had folded.” A couple of phone calls from the Richmond Rabbits tempted him back onto the pitch and on Saturday he picked up another piece of silverware, although his first in Nelson, as the Rabbits ran up 44-30 winners over the Wanderers Wolves in Saturday’s grand final at the newly-minted Champion Field, at the Saxton Field complex. “It’s awesome. The way these guys have welcomed me into the team, I’ve loved it.” Jesse was one part of the halves combination with Hayden Smith that kept the Rabbits on the front foot
