RACINE’S 4TH FEST PARADE — A HISTORIC AMERICAN CELEBRATION
The 4th Fest Parade in Racine is one of the most historically significant and enduring Independence Day celebrations in the United States The tradition began on July 4, 1844, with the City’s first formal observance of America’s Independence Since then, the parade has continued uninterrupted for over 180 years, earning Racine the title of the oldest parade in Wisconsin and a place among the nation’s longest-running 4th of July celebrations
During a peak year, the 4th Fest Parade in Racine draws an estimated 100,000 spectators, making it the Largest Independence Day Parade in Wisconsin and the Midwest In 2008, USA Today named Racine one of the “Top 10 Places to Celebrate the Fourth of July” in the United States – just behind Washington, D C –highlighting the city’s enthusiasm and
scale of celebration Again in 2025, Forbes listed the 4th Fest Parade as “One of the Best in the Country ”
The 4th Fest Parade holds some national distinctions as well It is the only parade in U S History to host the sitting Speaker of the House . The parade is also host to the only living memorial floats, across three wars, anywhere in the country
Racine’s celebration is unique in that it is entirely volunteer run, coordinated by a board of directors and committees of dedicated local citizens Its longstanding emphasis on music and pageantry is a point of pride, with deep roots in Racine’s marching band and drum corps tradition Racine does not simply mark Independence Day – it embodies it .
