Tomah serves education grades 3K through college, including the Tomah Area School District (TASD), Western Technical College, Queen of the Apostles Catholic School, St Paul Lutheran School, Tomah Baptist Academy and Tomah School of Childhood. TASD is central to many metro Wisconsin areas and serves over 3,000 students. Some of the largest concentrations of cranberry growers are in our own backyard! You can take a self-guided cranberry marsh tour, attend the Warrens Cranberry Festival during harvest in September or visit Cranberry Discovery Center — featuring an interactive museum, gift shop and cranberryinspired cafe. Enjoy good music, good food, cold drinks and kid zone fun at Downtown Thursday Nights held on Thursday nights in the summer. Millston’s Annual Chili & Soup Cook-Off – Feb. 20, 2027:

Held annually the third Saturday of February at TK’s 400 Club (W6621 US Hwy. 12, Millston). Proceeds to benefit the purchase of Millston fireworks.

1. Buckley Park/Aquatic Center –411 East Holton St.: Home to the Aquatic Center with zero-depth entry, slides, splash pad, lap swimming, diving boards, lounge chairs and picnic area. 2. Bud’s Ball Park – 302 N. Glendale Ave.: Softball diamond with lights, bleachers, score board and playground area.

3. Butts Park/n.a.s.a. Inclusive Park –1114 Parkview Dr.: Showcasing Tomah’s first all-abilities park sitting along the bank of Lake Tomah. Includes open-air picnic pavilion, playground and amenities for handicapped and elderly individuals, including: accessible shelter, restrooms, fishing pier and all-abilities playground.

4. Fireman’s Park/Skate Park/Disc Golf

– E. Brownell St. & Carol Ave.: Includes two open-air picnic pavilions, enclosed shelter, public restrooms, skate park, youth football fields, horseshoe pits, Born Learning Trail, playground area and disc golf. Recreation trail connects park to Buckley Park/Aquatic Center.

5. Gillett Park – 1316 Superior Ave.: Home to the Little Red School House Museum, Maid of the Mist Fountain, Farmers Market and Americana Music in the Park. Includes playground, picnic area and gazebo.

6. Grumann Park – Kristi Ln. & Jodi Cir.: Neighborhood Park with playground area and open-air picnic pavilion.

7. Memorial Park – 515 N Superior Ave.:

Home to the Veterans Memorial. Includes open-air picnic pavilion, public restrooms and playground area.

8. Recreation Park/Burnstad’s Adventure Playground – 1625 Butts Ave.: Home to the Budweiser Dairyland National Truck & Tractor Pull, Monroe County Fair, Wisconsin Woodsmen Hockey and Ice Center. Includes three enclosed shelters, grand stands and farm-themed playground with “Agventure” Pavilion.

9. Veteran’s Park/Dog Park – 1010 N. Glendale Ave.: Includes open-air picnic pavilion, fenced-in dog park, playground area, nature trail, concession stand with public restrooms and youth soccer fields.

10. Waterman Park – Waterman Ave. & Norsk Ave.: Neighborhood Park with playground area and open-air picnic pavilion.

11. Winnebago Park – 903 Brandon St.:

Located along the bank of Lake Tomah. Home to Tomah’s Holiday Lights, Winnebago Wonderland playground and Tomah Rotary Club Music Plaza. Includes two open-air picnic pavilions, enclosed shelter with fireplace, public restrooms, baseball diamond, handicappedaccessible fishing pier, kayak rentals, basketball and volleyball courts, fitness equipment, horseshoe pits, recreation trail and two boat ramps for access to Lake Tomah.

GILLETT PARK

Our neighboring communities offer an array of exciting activities and scenery to enjoy. While visiting Tomah, you can explore any of these communities just a short drive away!

Warrens, 7 miles North:

Enjoy awe-inspiring scenic beauty in the heart of the Cranberry Capital of Wisconsin. Home to the Warrens Cranberry Festival, Cranberry Discovery Center & Gift Shop, Shirley Ann’s Café and several cranberry marshes. Enjoy a camping trip at Jellystone Park where friends and family can experience the outdoors, campfires and outdoor water park, with lots of fun activities. Or take a vacation at Three Bears Resort where the whole family can enjoy fun in the outdoor/ indoor water parks, or enjoy the laser maze, arcade and mini golf. Take an adventure on the Trails of Monroe County with Bear Bogging Adventure Tours UTV rentals. Visit McMullen Memorial County Park for

camping, fishing, ice fishing, hiking and snowmobiling. Be sure to enjoy some cold brews at the Bog’s Edge Brewing Company.

Wyeville, 9 miles East:

On your way to Wyeville, visit Ho-Chunk Gaming Tomah and Whitetail Crossing Convenience Store. Enjoy a peaceful camping weekend at Woods Edge Campground or cozy up in a cabin at Holiday Lodge Resort. Get outdoors and play a round of disc golf on the 18-hole course or connect to adjacent ATV and snowmobile trails. Grab some pizzas and cold drinks from the Double Barrel Bar which features a unique selfpour tap wall. Enjoy live music and rotating food trucks on the weekends.

Southeast:

Enjoy weekend fun at the Oakdale Fun Days celebration in July featuring 5K & 10K run/ walks, beanbag and softball tournaments, live music and more. Be sure to swing by the Road Ranger gas station to snap a selfie with the larger-than-life mouse statue dressed like a cowboy!

Camp

Douglas, 15 miles

Southeast:

Home to Mill Bluff State Park, Camp Douglas Armed Forces Day and to Volk Field Air National Guard Base and Camp Williams military facilities who are known for their Northern Lightning training in August. Mill Bluff State Park, comprised of the Ice Age National Scientific Reserve, offers a spectacular view of picturesque rock formations while featuring campsites, picnic areas, outdoor shelter, hiking trails and a swimming pond. Get outdoors and explore!

Sparta, 18 miles West

Sparta offers the first biking “Rails to Trails” path on the Elroy-Sparta State Bike Trail featuring three rock tunnels and five towns along its 32.5-mile route, making this trail a favorite Wisconsin

bicycling destination. Sparta also offers fishing, camping, walking trails with handbuilt wooden bridges, canoeing/kayaking adventures, aquatic park, downtown shopping and winter activities including their award winning Kriskindlmarkt. Explore the Monroe County Local History Room & Museum, Wegner Grotto County Park and the Deke Slayton Memorial Space and Bike Museum, showcasing one of America’s first astronauts.

Fort McCoy, 12 miles West:

A total force training center for the U.S. Military. Visit the World War II-era buildings, history center, equipment park and Veterans Memorial Plaza at the Fort McCoy Commemorative Area. The Commemorative Area is open to the public for self-guided tours on the second and fourth Fridays from noon –4 p.m. and the first Saturdays from 10 a.m. –4 p.m. of June through August. Or join them for the Armed Forces Day Open House in May for tours and demonstrations. Amish Country Tour

Enjoy the area’s beautiful Amish country scenery with this self-guided driving tour through the community just south of Tomah. We encourage you to explore with these easy steps and suggestions.

See the Signs & Slow Down: Look for the yellow caution sign featuring the Amish buggy icon. Be cautious of sharp turns, pedestrians, horse-drawn buggies and wagons traveling slowly, especially if driving in inclement weather. Sundays are heavily trafficked due to Amish families attending religious services or visiting friends and relatives.

Identifying Amish Homes: Homes can be identified by their lack of modern machinery, usually painted white and oftentimes windmills. Keep an eye out for “additions” to the homes which generally means a son has married, and the family needs room for the new couple.

Respect the Community: Please note, due to religious beliefs, Amish are not allowed to be photographed. Shops owned and operated by the Amish are closed on Sundays.

Cranberry Country Tour

Did you know, Wisconsin is the world’s leading producer of cranberries with more than half of the world’s supply produced on 250 Wisconsin family farms? The state’s number one fruit crop generates nearly $1 billion in revenue each year while supporting over 4,000 jobs! Native to the marshlands of central and northern Wisconsin, commercial production began in the 1850s. Today, cranberries grow in 20 of Wisconsin’s 72 counties with the largest concentration of growers in the Tomah/ Warrens/Wisconsin Rapids area.

Harvest season, typically mid-September through October, is the most exciting time of the year in Cranberry Country. Take in the awe-inspiring scenic beauty of the bright red cranberry beds and the changing fall color. Contrary to popular belief, cranberries do not grow in water, instead, they grow on low-lying vines in beds layered with sand, peat, gravel and clay. Cranberries contain four tiny air pockets allowing them to float. During harvest, beds are flooded with water and the vines are shaken with machinery for the collection of fruit to be sold as fresh fruit or turned into pressed products like juice, sauce and dried cranberries. The tart red berries are a rich source of vitamin C. Cranberry blossom season, generally late June through early July, is another beautiful time to visit Cranberry Country. An estimated 20 million flowers bloom per cultivated acre.

Enjoy the Cranberry Country Tour any time you’re visiting the area. Allow about one hour to tour the approximately 22.5-mile route. We suggest starting your tour at Cranberry Discovery Center in downtown Warrens for breakfast or lunch. Hours vary by season, for more details, visit welovecranberries.com.

Safety first: Harvest is a busy time of year. For everyone’s safety, please do not drive or walk on cranberry marshes without permission. Most cranberry growers allow visitors to stop along the road to watch and capture photos. Please pull over somewhere safe, remain next to your vehicle and make sure to avoid blocking any marsh driveways. Wetherby Cranberry Company is the only marsh on the driving tour that offers public tours.

Look right: as you leave Warrens, you’ll drive past Vern Gebhardt Cranberry Marsh/ Whiskey Creek Cranberry which started in 1968, making it one of the newer marshes on this tour.

Fun fact: Many marshes in this area are over 100 years old, owned by multigenerational families.

Look right: to spot the sign for Russell Rezin & Son/Jay Creek Cranberries Marsh which celebrated its centennial in 2018. Belonging to the Rezin marsh, past the ponds, you’ll find more cranberry beds.

Wildlife watch: Look for bald eagles, trumpeter swans, loons and other waterfowl. Marshes also provide habitat for sandhill cranes, whitetail deer, muskrats, otters, coyotes, wolves and more.

Travel about 1-mile east on County Hwy. EW:

Look right and left: Here the county road splits the James Potter Cranberry Marsh. Established in 1871, owned by the Potter family since 1912, this marsh is one of the oldest in the Warrens area.

Turn right onto Auger Road, to visit Wetherby Cranberry Company: Owned by the Van Wychen family who sell seasonal fresh cranberries, produce cranberry wine and offer personalized VIP cranberry tours for a fee, reservations are required, call (608) 378-4813.

When departing, turn right onto County Hwy. EW, then turn left on Augusta Road: Get a closeup view of the Potter marsh.

Look right to see 12 original beds being converted into two, 15-acre beds.

Fun fact: The oldest bed on this marsh was planted in 1928 and still produces cranberries to this day!

Stay on Augusta Road until it intersects Crampton Road (road turns right). Turn left onto Crampton Road:

Look right: to see Hancock Brothers sphagnum moss processing facility.

Fun fact: Wisconsin is the only state in the U.S. to commercially harvest sphagnum moss which can hold 20 times its weight in water, making it invaluable for keeping nursery stock alive during shipment. You may see it spread across the sand to dry before it’s packaged and sold to garden centers and nurseries.

Continue north to the intersection of Crampton Road and Beltz Road:

Look left: To the west is the Beltz Cranberry Company marsh, owned by the family of Steve and Betty Gebhardt.

Fun fact: Have you seen a variation of Ocean Spray’s signature commercial with an older farmer exchanging comedic banter with a younger farmer, while standing in a bog of cranberries? Filmed in 2014 and debuted in 2015, the Beltz marsh was featured in these signature commercials.

Turn right onto Crampton Road:

Look left: Here you will see the Gebhardt LLC marsh, also owned by the family of Steve and Betty Gebhardt. Before being planted to cranberries in the 1990s, a mint farm operated, and peppermint oil was extracted for use in flavoring candies, toothpaste and other products.

Continue 2-miles to the intersection of Crampton Road and County Hwy. HH: The marsh sign is a few yards to the right, but directly in front of you is QRS&M Cranberry Company which was established in 1877. Prior to that, located on this property was the sawmill community of Chaplin.

Turn left onto Hwy. HH, travel north about 1.5-miles:

Look right: You’ll see a sign for Farmland Management’s Jackson-Meadow Valley Marsh. Many locals refer to this land as the Case Marsh. In 1876 Russel Case purchased government land that boasted wild cranberries. The marsh stayed in the family until the passing of Russel’s grandson, Robert “Bob” Case, in 1975. Bob invented one of the first mechanical cranberry pickers.

Fun fact: Bob’s workshop was once housed in the Union Cranberry Company warehouse which now hosts Cranberry Discovery Center, where you first started this tour. One of Bob’s early raking machines is on display in the museum.

Continue about 1-mile northwest on Hwy. HH:

Look right: You’ll see a sign for Scott Cranberry East Marsh. Established in the 1870s, this marsh was purchased by Judge John Stevens in 1918 and settled on by his daughter and son-in-law, Genevieve & Archibald Scott in 1921. Since then, the marsh has been in continuous operation by the members of the Stevens/Scott Family.

Continue about 1-mile west on Hwy. HH:

Look right and left: Here you will see the J R Nemitz Cranberry Company marsh which produces cranberries and aronia berries. Like cranberries, aronia is native to North America and produces small, dark berries that are popular among health-conscious

consumers. The Nemitz family has planted over 24,000 bushes of aronia on 20 acres.

Continue about 2-miles west on Hwy. HH:

Look right: Here you will find the Walworth Cranberry LLC marsh.

Fun fact: At one time, the Wetherby, Nemitz, and Walworth marshes were all part of the Union Cranberry Company. Retired owners offered the opportunity to purchase these marshes to three of their marsh managers. The Central Marsh was purchased by Charles Walworth and his son Dale in 1973.

Travel about 2.5 miles on Hwy. HH, turn left onto Hwy. O: You’ll notice additional cranberry marshes on your way back to the start of your tour.

Travel 3-miles south on Hwy. O, turn right onto County Hwy. EW (Grant St.), turn left on County EW (Main St.), head south over the train tracks and you are back to the start of the tour.
