When a jazz and classically-trained trumpet player from small-town Ohio becomes a singersongwriter, guitarist and music teacher, you get the original songs of Stephy Leigh Griffin. Her voice has been compared to Loretta Lynn, Ellie King, Wanda Jackson and Emmylou Harris. She plays solo or with her full band, Stephy Leigh & the Lullaby League. You can also hear her play trumpet in one of Arizona’s only 1920s hot jazz bands, King Copper.

Stephy brings her raw edge to every performance as she tells her story through music. Currently, she spends most of her time in the studio recording her new album. Stephy is proud to represent Prescott, Arizona’s ever-growing Americana music scene.

Chicago

Chicago, the legendary pop and rock band with horns, returned to Prescott Valley’s Findlay Toyota Center Feb. 20 for a dazzling concert featuring smash hits like “Saturday in the Park,” “Make Me Smile,” “You’re the Inspiration” and many others, spanning from ballads to hard-driving jazz and rock.

The ensemble was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2016 and two of its members, Robert Lamm and James Pankow, made it into the Songwriters Hall of Fame the following year. Chicago was the first band in America to put albums in Billboard’s Top 40 chart for six consecutive decades and drew a diverse crowd of fans to the arena for a fully immersive music and visual experience. The performance was held at Findlay Toyota Center on February 20th.

Fifty years ago, the city of Prescott welcomed a Hollywood ﬁlm crew & helped make a West n Classic.

Junior Bonner, written by the late screenwriter and Orme School graduate, Jeb Rosebrook, is a deeply personal homage to family, historic Prescott and the small towns and ranchlands of Yavapai County. One reason the ﬁlm was successful—and remains a snapshot in time and history—was its location manager, William Pierce, the local Arizona Film Commission representative, president of the Fair Association, and the Prescott Jaycees rodeo chairman. The local businessman was well connected, friend to all and not intimidated by Peckinpah or in awe of McQueen. Pierce actually drove the leading man around on his motorcycle to get to locations during the parade sequence. Pierce’s local connections also helped secure a local track for McQueen and his son to race their dirt bikes.

Pierce was successful in landing the production of Junior Bonner for Prescott and Yavapai County because he recognized the locales my father Jeb Rosebrook wrote about in the script and was able to open doors to secure all the ﬁlm’s locations.

Pierce’s contribution to making the ﬁlm a reality was so appreciated by the production company, the ﬁlm ends with a heartfelt message of special thanks to the people of Prescott and Pierce. This heartfelt thanks we should continue to express, for without Bill Pierce and the generosity of spirit of the people of Prescott and Yavapai County, we would not be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1971 production and its subsequent release in 1972.

The Harlem Globetrotters

The World Famous Harlem Globetrotters brought their reimagined Spread Game tour to the Prescott area’s largest entertainment venue. The originators of basketball style continue to influence today’s game while spreading the sport and bringing entertainment to the globe. Ankle-breaking moves, jaw-dropping swag and rim-rattling dunks are only some of the thrills fans of all ages cheered during this fully modernized show. Quad Cities Home Selling Prices Spike as Sales Cool

The February median home selling price in the Quad Cities jumped more than 15% compared to last February despite home sales lagging as supply failed to meet demand, according to the housing market report released by the Prescott Area Association of REALTORS® (PAAR).

The median home selling price in the Quad Cities was $475,000 in February, while closed sales totaled 265.

Prescott posted the highest February median selling price in the region at $575,750, an increase of 16.3% compared to February 2021. Sales in the area decreased by 11.9% to finish the month at 118. Homes went under contract in a median time of 10 days.

Prescott Valley’s median sales price grew by 10.8% from a year ago to reach $437,500 in February. Five days represents the median time a home

was on the market. The 96 homes sold during February represent a decrease of 5.5% from February 2021.

“Homebuyer demand remains exceptionally strong throughout the Quad Cities,” said George Beitzel, 2022 PAAR president. “The primary headwind slowing home sales is the scarcity of homes listed for sale. Newly listed homes are selling quickly, keeping the overall number of homes listed for sale and homebuyers’ options at historically low levels.”

“Prescott Area REALTORS® are optimistic that sellers, who stayed on the sidelines during the uncertainty of 2021, will begin to return to the housing market now that the pandemic has eased,” Beitzel said. “It will continue to be a seller’s market throughout this year and likely into 2023 given the combination of fewer existing homes being listed and the slow pace of new home building

throughout the Quad Cities.”

Chino Valley had the greatest median sales price increase in the region, jumping by 26.5% to reach $430,000 on 25 closed home sales. The number of closed sales was 21.9% below the February 2021 total.

Dewey-Humboldt had 26 closed home sales, the same as this time a year ago. The median sales price was $419,500.

There were 410 homes listed for sale in the Quad Cities at the end of February, a 22% increase from the February 2021 total of 336.

This partnership follows the launch of the casino’s new sportsbook lounge on the main casino floor; officially opened Jan. 14.
