Hometown Glow celebrates small businesses, community pride and the start of the holiday season. Join us as our towns sparkle with light, warmth and hometown spirit!
The Chamber distributes welcome bags filled with local coupons, promotions and special offers along with a Shop Local Passport and Map. Shoppers collect stamps at participating businesses throughout the day on their Shop Local Passport and turn it in for the chance to win prizes. Prize drawings are held during the Hometown Glow Celebration Party.

Fontana
Fontana-On-Geneva Lake, colloquially known as simply “Fontana,” has been integral to the communities surrounding Lake Geneva since the 1600s. First inhabited by the Big Foot band of Potawatomi Native Americans in 1641, the land was used much the same way it is today, for local resources and a peaceful place to call home. Despite their forced relocation to Kansas, Chief Big Foot and the Potawatomi held the land close to their hearts and instilled that devotion and care to the rest of the community.
The first log cabin was built in 1836, heralding the arrival of more homesteaders from the East Coast, eager to try their hands at living off the land. As the area’s popularity grew, wealthy Chicagoans made their way north and built summer homes, some becoming fulltime residences after the
Great Chicago Fire in 1871. Fontana’s first large estate was built by Harvard, Illinois resident, Edward E. Ayer, in 1875. This estate would later be sold and ultimately become Fontana’s Abbey Springs.
In 1924 Fontana established itself as its own entity, with control over its own government, laws and citizens. From there the population continued to grow, even thriving through the Great Depression, and quadrupled over a 70 year period.
With both year-round and seasonal residents, Fontana boasts a wide variety of shopping, restaurants and entertainment, sure to appeal to visitors and locals alike.
Recognized as both Tree City USA and Bird City Wisconsin, the natural beauty of the area is important to the community, ensuring continued care of the land and its inhabitants for generations to come.

Walworth encompasses both the Town of Walworth and the Village of Walworth, as well as a small portion of the unincorporated community of Big Foot Prairie. The Town of Walworth was established in 1839 and covers an area of 29.5 square miles. The Village of Walworth was established in 1857, beginning with a tavern in the home of its founder. Both the town and village continued to grow as railways from Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul were built, allowing easy access for travelers.
With its proximity to Geneva Lake, and other villages such as Fontana-On-Geneva Lake and Williams Bay, Walworth became a staple in the lives of summer visitors. The historic train depot, where the Milwaukee line ended, is still available to be visited, as well as other historic places. While the town and the village are their own unique entities, they offer similar living experiences for their residents, including scenic views, agriculture and a serene place to call home.
Shopping, restaurants and entertainment are all available in both the town and village of Walworth, with the town having a larger manufacturing footprint. While they share some resources, each has their own distinct town or village hall, clerk and treasurer, public works and fire safety supervisors. No matter if you are visiting or a resident, both the Town of Walworth and the Village of Walworth have all that you need to enjoy your stay.

Williams Bay was home to the Potawatomi led by Chief Big Foot, living along the shore of Big Foot Lake, now Geneva Lake. Their love for the lake has stayed true through hundreds of years of growth and development, showing just how vital Geneva Lake is to its surrounding communities. After the Potawatomi were forced to relocate, Captain Israel Williams arrived on July 4, 1837 to settle with his family and erected the first framed building in 1840 in what is now Williams Bay.
As train and stagecoach routes were established around Geneva Lake more people flocked to the area to settle and to vacation. Lady of the Lake, a Lake Geneva cruise line, was launched in 1873, allowing passengers to take in the beautiful scenery and nature. In 1919 the Village of Williams Bay was officially incorporated and more hotels, restaurants and yachts were added as interest in the area continued to grow. The area was not only recognized
for Geneva Lake, but other historic sites, such as Yerkes Observatory, built in 1897. Yerkes is home to the world’s largest refracting telescope used for astronomical observations, and is notably one of the places Albert Einstein was most excited to visit when coming to the United States, which he did in 1921. Einstein is not Williams Bay’s only claim to fame, as Harrison Ford performed at local venue, Belfry Theatre, in Night of the Iguana .
A small town, Williams Bay offers a large variety of options for visitors and residents, including unique shops, upscale dining, family restaurants and health and wellness services. A weekly farmers market during the summer allows for locals to support small businesses, as well as enjoy time by the lake. Also home to Kishwauketoe Nature Conservancy, the nature that once entranced the area’s settlers can still be enjoyed, by residents and visitors alike, today and for years to come.
Badger Park features picnic tables, park benches and a roofed pavilion, which makes it ideal for picnics and gatherings. The park also features playground equipment, swings and a large open field, as well as access to a walking path.

Devils Lane Park has numerous park amenities including a lighted, covered pavilion; playground equipment and swings; picnic tables and park benches; and public bathrooms (weather-permitting).
DUCK POND RECREATION AREA

Duck Pond Recreation Area is located on Wild Duck Road, off Highway 67. The park contains numerous hiking trails, as well as softball, baseball and soccer fields and a Frisbee golf course. The Duck Pond Pavilion with bathroom facilities and a concession stand is open during scheduled sports events and available to rent for special events.
EDGEWATER PARK

Edgewater Park is located in the town of Williams Bay along the Geneva Lake Shoreline. The park features playground equipment and a shelter with public restrooms. Grilling is permitted. The park is adjacent to the Williams Bay Beach.
FONTANA BEACH

Scenic Fontana Beach sits on the western shore of Geneva Lake, with sand and grass areas. Lifeguards are on duty daily Memorial Day through Labor Day. The beach house has restrooms, changing areas and concessions.
FONTANA FEN
State Rd. 67 and Dewey, Fontana
Take one of three annotated walks at this 10-acre conservation area, home to the calcareous fen. This rare type of wetland prairie has an internal ground water system that supports only a few specialized plants. The fen is located off of Highway 67 next to St. Benedict Catholic Church. The parking area is located at the corner of Main Street and Dewey Avenue. The area is open daily, year round with no admission fees.

Enjoy 231 acres of oak woods, deciduous forest and vast prairie along with rolling creeks and calm ponds. Uncover the unexpected on more than four miles of trails taking you through various areas of mindfully planted specifics of sedges, grasses and hardwood trees. There are wetlands at the south end, across from the beach, as well as another in the northeast section.

Pioneer Park is located on Lake Street across from the village boat launch site. The park features an unobstructed view of Geneva Lake and grilling is permitted.

Reid Park is located off Fontana Boulevard and Third Avenue. The park features the Little Foot Playground, a small softball diamond, picnic tables and a lakefront gazebo.

At Rotary Park, you can roller skate during the warmer months on the west hockey rink, and ice skate in the winter (weather permitting) on the east rink. This park also offers a sledding hill and a warming shed for winter activities.

This local park includes many amenitites for your visit, including picnic tables, outdoor grills, a softball field, playground equipment and a large open field. Bathrooms are available by reservation when weather permits, which will accommodate attendees of any event held in their lighted, roofed pavilion, which also has a small food prep area complete with sink and refrigerator.

Friday Fish Fry
Life on a lake would not be complete without fish fry! A staple in Wisconsin, fish fry is seen in various iterations across the state, but where did it come from and why is it so popular in the Midwest?
Fish fry began to rise in popularity as the Catholic population in the area grew. On Fridays during Lent, practicing Catholics abstain from meat, including beef, pork, chicken, turkey and lamb, but fish was not included, allowing practitioners to get their protein source another way. Two of the largest groups of immigrants in the Midwest are from Germany and Poland and they brought this tradition with them, and it eventually gained popularity with the community at large.
More than a religious practice during Lent, fish fry is a Wisconsin way of life, no matter the time of year. It was also a staple through Prohibition, as bars were losing customers when they were unable to serve alcoholic beverages, but fish fry kept them coming in. Supper clubs of the 1940s helped keep fish fry in the public eye, and even large chains like McDonald’s had to jump on board when customers were not purchasing burgers during Lent, introducing their iconic Filet-O-Fish sandwich.
Traditional fish fry is breaded or battered, and more often fried, but sometimes baked. Cod and perch are popular fish options, but any whitefish, such as bluegill and haddock are suitable for fish fry. Served with coleslaw, potato pancakes and applesauce, this filling meal brings flocks of hungry diners to area restaurants every Friday, rain or shine.
