sure what to expect after such same “girls” are now married with children of their own – a few dancing at the studio as well – or pursuing careers in various fields. To say “I feel old” would be fit, the hardwood floor of the studio shines just as an understatement; and yet, I remembered it, and the somehow, once we all enter steps… well, they’re a work in the studio, those “grown up” progress, week by week, as my problems seem to melt away. Flash back to the little girl muscle memory slowly but surely recalls the footwork in the pale yellow tutu, arms that at one point had been ﬂailing, feet scurrying in a mad dash to join her class second nature. They say that those onstage for her very ﬁrst you spend years enjoying dance recital… Where ever did the years go extracurricular activities with become like a second family indeed? It’s nice to know that, of sorts over time, and the as our lives continue to move dance studio is no exception at a frenzied pace day after – especially after 20 years of day, there is still time to step essentially growing up with into another mode, lace up the old tap shoes and shuffle the same core group of girls. Fifty-six current and former students from North Babylon High School have earned the prestigious designation of Advanced Placement Scholar from the College Board due to their outstanding achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement exams. The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on a student’s performance on AP exams. One student was recognized as a National AP Scholar. Seven students were named AP Scholars with Distinction. Ten students were named AP Scholars with Honor, and 38 were designated as AP Scholars. National AP Scholar One student qualified for the National AP Scholar award by receiving an average of at least 4 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams. This student is Alonzo Tabada.

AP Scholars with Distinction Seven students received AP Scholar with Distinction awards by earning an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. Night of Recognitions The October 17th Babylon Board of Education Business Meeting was full of recognitions for both staff and students. The night began with the recognition of the current Babylon Junior-Senior High School students who were named Advanced Placement Scholars. These students were commended for their academic dedication and presented with commemorative certificates. AP Scholar awards are bestowed upon students by the College Board based on the number of AP exams taken and the

scores they received on the tests. Babylon Junior-Senior High School football coach Rick Punzone was celebrated for recently being named a New York Jets High School Coach of the Week by Chase. Under his leadership, the team has won five Long Island and 12 Suffolk County championships, all within the past 20 years. The team recently defeated the Center Moriches Red Devils at homecoming with a final score of 42-6. To finish up the evening’s recognitions, the board of

education members were recognized for their selfless volunteer work toward the community and numerous hours given to ensure that students are getting the best education possible. The representatives were given many tokens of appreciation throughout the night, but perhaps the most memorable was Babylon Memorial Grade School’s gift of red superhero capes and a presentation portraying various members of the Babylon school community as superheroes.

After honorably serving his country as a US Marine, he joined Beaver Engine Company 2 of the West Babylon Fire Department. He actively served in the West Babylon Fire Department until his death on October 5th, 2015, totaling over 57 years of service to the Town of Babylon community.
