Time Of The Season By: Jamie Lynn Ryan And just like that, the holiday season is upon us. It seems like just last week we were soaking up the last few rays of sun at the beach, our toes in the sand, the waves crashing ashore… and now we’re busy digging out boots and scarves and stocking up on all things pumpkin spice. Such is the circle of life, the cycle of seasons and the wonder of Mother Nature. Speaking of, “sources” claim this winter will be colder than normal, with

record snowfall yet again. Shocking. Really, do we need to start obsessing about the first ﬂake from now? It is what it is; it will be what it will be – the end. Deal with it. Or don’t, and hibernate until March. The mass hysteria is beyond maddening, especially since most meteorologists can’t seem to predict the next day’s forecast, let alone an entire season’s worth. Just sayin’. In the meantime, can we all just enjoy the cool, crisp air of Autumn? Play in the leaves, pick pumpkins and apples, check out a haunted

house or corn maze, create a unique Halloween costume, start planning your Thanksgiving menu ... Save the shovels for another day. For now, anyway. And as for those Christmas gift lists ... relax. There’s something about shopping for the holidays during the actual season, don’t you think? Those who are already finished are missing out on the true spirit in their rush to cross tasks off the to-do list. It’s not a race. It’s about putting some thought into it and enjoying the experience.

The Town received a bronze level award from the Car Free Day Long Island committee for encouraging residents and employees to take part in the initiative, which is celebrated in forty countries worldwide, and had declared September 22nd Car Free Day in the Town of Babylon. This year was the second annual Car Free Day on Long Island and was organized by the Car Free Day Long Island Planning Committee, which includes representatives from numerous local organizations such as the Long Island Railroad, Stony Brook University and North Shore-LIJ Health System. In 2013, it is estimated that the first Car Free Day resulted in reducing 32 tons of carbon emissions and lessening driving on Long Island by over 65,000 miles.

Before the big game, the North Babylon cheerleaders, marching band and representatives from the Classes of 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 showed school spirit during a parade featuring colorful school class ﬂoats. The Senior Class won best banner and best vehicle, and seniors Louis Levanti and Alexis Ferro were crowned homecoming king and queen. During the tailgating party, the Athletic Department acknowledged the dedication of student athletes and their parents.

Prior to kickoff, the Bulldogs were introduced to the home crowd that filled the bleachers to capacity. At halftime, cheerleaders and the marching band showcased their talents. The energized home team played with passion, but fell short to the Clippers. Their determination and athleticism, along with the precise performances of the marching band and cheerleaders, and the many displays of school pride, gave community members a reason to smile.
