Principal Honored It was a day of gratitude, celebration and excitement when North Babylon alumnus and current NBA star Danny Green surprised students and staff at Robert Moses Middle School on September 12th. Mr. Green flew in from his base in San Antonio, where he plays for the Spurs, to thank RMMS Principal Kathleen Harnett for her support of his Team Green basketball camp. The camp, which

provides Mr. Green with the opportunity to give back to his community, teaches local children the game of basketball, setting goals, teamwork, and other essential lessons for sports and life. “It was really surprising and very touching,” said Mrs. Harnett. “It was an example of what family means to Danny – and I am part of his North Babylon family. He takes nothing for granted. He is

Mrs. Harnett used Mr. Green’s visit, as well as his success in both career and life, as a teachable moment for her middle school students. “Danny is here as an inspiration to each and every one of you,” Ms. Harnett said to her students after the presentation. “He had a dream and worked 24 hours a day, seven days a week to achieve that dream. Not too long ago, Danny was where you are right now. It doesn’t matter what your dream is – set a goal, work hard and, like Danny did, don’t let anything get in your way.”

Fading Fast By: Jamie Lynn Ryan It’s official. Autumn has arrived, and with it, quickly fading are those last golden rays of summer sunshine, any lingering tan lines, the prospect of wearing flip flops and short sleeves … and, as of this printing, the Yankees’ playoff hopes. Just like that. What a difference one week can make, right? I know, I know … get over it. Seasons come and go, weather changes and we all had just better get used to it – and quickly. Each month brings with it its own unique excitement, and there are those who far prefer the

winter cold to any number of days spent lounging on the beach. (I would not be one of them, in case you couldn’t tell.) But here we are, at any rate, on the verge of October, with the holiday season lurking right over the horizon. Tis’ the season for Oktoberfest and Fall Festivals, high school and college Homecoming parades and games, pumpkin picking and Halloween costume parties. Before you know it, we’ll be making our shopping lists for Black Friday. And, just like that, summer will be a distant memory.

So time to dig out the fall sweaters, store the bathing suits away for another season, and embrace the crunch of the leaves beneath your boots. School is back, football is gearing up and the new fall TV season is in full premiere mode. Doesn’t sound so bad after all, does it? Not bad at all...
