The Brittney Walsh Memorial Fund is holding its 4th annual Bowling Fundraiser at Farmindale Lanes in Farmingdale on October 22nd. The Brittney Walsh Memorial Fund is a non-profit organization established to honor the memory of Brittney Walsh. On June 24th, 2012, just two days after Brittney’s high school graduation, she was killed by a drunk driver. This tragic incident has left her family and friends in a great deal of pain. Christina Capobianco has greenhouse, thanks to the West Babylon Senior been working on her Girl Scout Gold Star project – building a greenhouse – for the past two years. Aside from the work of planning, designing and construction of the greenhouse, Capobianco also set out to raise enough money to make her project a reality. In the final days of August before the start of the new school year, Capobianco, along with her family and student and local business volunteers, completed the greenhouse. Many of the materials for the project were donated by local businesses. The greenhouse is located across from West Babylon Senior High School’s courtyard. Hunting for Gingerbread
Kindergarten students in Carolyn Bogart’s class at Forest Avenue Elementary School in the West Babylon School District started their first week of school with a hunt for a storybook character. On the first day of school, the kindergarten class read “The Gingerbread
Man.” After reading the book to the class, Ms. Bogart showed them the gingerbread man cookie. Somehow during lunch that day, the gingerbread man “escaped” the room and the students spent the next few days looking for him all around the school. Ms. Bogart used the
activity to give the kindergartners a tour of the school, stopping at the nurses office, main office and other areas to ask staff member if they saw the gingerbread man. Finally, during their library period, the students were able to locate the gingerbread man in the library.

The
Site-Based Team at Parliament Place Elementary School in the North Babylon School District worked diligently to create a new cafeteria incentive program in place for the 2016-2017 year. As part of the Bee-utiful Bee-havior program, students are encouraged to demonstrate proper etiquette and thoughtfulness during lunch, and being rewarded with prizes. Teachers in each classroom will task two students as a “Bee Keeper” and a “Busy
Bee Inspector.” The “Bee Keeper” will be be responsible for making sure that everyone has the utensils, napkins, straws and condiments they need, and the “Busy Bee Inspector” will be responsible for inspecting his/her classroom’s tables when they have completed their meals and exited the cafeteria. Each day, one section at each grade level will be announced as the recipient of the “Best Bee-havior Award,” which will be distributed by the cafeteria
aide. Teachers will then display the award outside their classrooms, and then return it to the “Beehive” each morning. The “Beehive” will be ready in the cafeteria for each day’s lunch sessions. Each day’s winners will also be announced by Principal Drew Olson. The Site-Based Team’s idea to create the Beeutiful Bee-havior program at Parliament is another way students are being taught the value of character education.

Musicians Honored One West Babylon Senior High School studentmusician has been chosen by the National Association for Music Education as an All-National participant and five others have been selected for the New York State School Music Association’s All-State Conference. Nicole Rinaudo Concessi will perform with the All-National Choir from November 10th through
13th in Grapevine, Texas. The NAfME All-National Honor Ensembles represent the top performing high school musicians in the United States.
