This past 4th of July weekend, my friend and I decided to take a road trip out to Montauk Point. Having recently realized that we had never been to this summer hotspot during the actual summer months, a busy holiday weekend seemed like the ideal time to go. Armed with a handful of late 90’s teen pop CDs and my trusty iPhone navigation system, we headed out. Of course, Long Island traffic is a force to be reckoned with on any normal day; add to it a two-lane road with speed limits ranging from 55 to 25 mph, throw in a few unfamiliar tourist types - and you have yourself a solid two-hour journey to contend with, at least. At one point, as traffic

crept to a complete standstill, my dear Siri piped up and suggested an “alternate” route, one that would allegedly save 25 minutes from the journey. Not having had the best of luck in the past with these detours, I was initially hesitant. But, looking ahead at the long line of vehicles, I figured, what was the harm. Approximately 45 minutes later, and two side trips through the residential roads of Bridgehampton, and then East Hampton, we emerged back on Montauk Highway, back in the same line of traffic. So much for that. After (finally) arriving at the famous Lobster Roll luncheonette, we were met with the expected hour-long

wait, somewhat alleviated by spending time taking pictures in front of the original sign and marveling at some of the patrons attempting to navigate the pebble-filled parking lot in high heels. The food was, as always, worth the wait - and we promptly decided that dinner would most likely not be necessary, as we couldn’t imagine eating another thing for at least another three days or so. We finished up and headed on the next leg of our journey, the famous lighthouse, the self-proclaimed “End of the World.” Coming next week: The End. {Part II}

Eagle Constructs Stage Organization. Desrosiers, a member of Troop 2014, constructed a stage for the youth group to use at the First Presbyterian Church in Babylon Village. He also added several “throw” rugs to help make the room more welcoming and cozy. Deputy Supervisor Martinez commended Desrosiers for his

achievement and service to the community and presented him with an official Town of Babylon proclamation. Last week we asked you to think about developing an idea that would contribute to a personal funeral service - which would have the greatest meaning to you and your family for your loved one. We stated that it did not matter whether you were planning a traditional funeral with a wake and church service or whether you were planning a direct cremation or direct burial with a memorial service at a later date. We feel from all our experiences those who take the time to think about a funeral service which recalls the joy and comfort the deceased brought forth into your and your family’s lives begin the mourning process with a much better focus. Pictures of times gone by are a wonderful reminder of a person’s contributions to joy and happiness. Letters written by friends co-workers and family also mind you of the joy the deceased brought into your hearts. Although flowers contribute beauty and are an integral part of the funeral process - instead of flowers you may wish to ask friends and family members to contribute pictures or a written story to the funeral service. Some of you reading this article may also wish to consider bringing pictures or a written story to a funeral instead of sending flowers; The family would greatly appreciate your efforts. You may wish to have one or several people deliver a eulogy. With consultation with the clergy/minister the eulogy can be delivered at the church during the funeral or memorial service. It can also be delivered at the funeral home the night before the funeral. Because of the difference in the funeral mass and funeral service, it is preferred that the eulogy for Catholics be delivered in the funeral home the night before. It is for several reasons the most important is the length of the eulogy. It is extremely rare that a Protestant church would have more than one funeral service on any given day. Whereas, Our Ladyh of Perpetual Help Church often has two, three or up to four funeral Masses in one day not including the three scheduled masses everyday. The sheer numbers and the desire to accommodate all the families in the parish preclude lengthy eulogies. You would not want to postpone your funeral because another family took 45 minutes to eulogize a member of their family. Think about it, come talk to us and we will help you.

Take out those shriveled raisin dreams that you forgot about long ago: water them, grow them into a garden of grapes; tear through the cardboard in your attic and unbox all the desires left up there to suffocate: let them breathe. You can do now all the things you’ve never done, because you are free!” Cuomo praised his classmates’ work ethic and resolve during their four years together and urged them to keep working hard as they move forward. “To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice your gift,” Cuomo said. “Hard work and perseverance is what

separates the greats from the could-have-beens, not pure talent. With the help of many important people in our lives, we were able to not sacrifice the gift.” Principal Klomp reﬂected with students on their years together and praised them for all they’ve accomplished. Bencivenga and Senior Class Student Council Vice President Alexander Alessi, Principal Al Cirone took the stage to address the graduates of the Class of 2017. Throughout his address, Mr. Cirone noted that these students were the first seventh grade he oversaw when he assumed the role of principal back in 2011 and encouraged all to focus on their energy and efforts toward creating positivity in the world. Additionally, Class of 2017 valedictorian Gabriella Albanese, along with salutatorian Ece Bapcum, delivered a pair of eloquent speeches expressing their gratitude

toward their fellow peers and their hopes for everyone’s continued successes in the future. North Babylon High School’s Class of 2024 inched one step closer to its graduation with moving up ceremonies throughout the district’s five elementary schools. With their parents and loved ones in attendance, each school hosted a special program to commemorate the fifth-grade students’ completion of elementary school with certificates and awards during the final week of school. As they prepare to continue their academic journeys at Robert Moses Middle

School, students were encouraged to continue following their dreams and working hard to achieve success. Superintendent of Schools Glen Eschbach offered words of advice to the students. “What is worth learning is worth working hard for,” said Eschbach at Belmont Elementary School’s moving up ceremony. “Don’t let frustration get the best of you; persevere! Ask for help and keep trying; the payoff will be great. Be humble about
