Through their efforts, they were able to adopt a tiger. Continuing the project this year, the students focused on the animal being sponsored by the Bronx Zoo as part of its “Run for the Wild” event in which they raise money for one particular species. This year’s animal is the elephant. In preparation for Earth Day, students gathered bottles with the support of faculty and staff and built a 3-D elephant in the school lobby using the bottles. By doing so, they hoped to raise awareness of the amount of bottles that are used in their school, and how with a little effort, everyone can play a part in saving the planet.

As I sit here on deadline, writing my column at the eleventh hour – as usual – is it wrong that the only thought I have is how I would rather be lying on the beach, soaking up the sun, on this fine spring day? Nothing against work – it just tends to conﬂict with the nice weather, you know? Sure, summer isn’t even officially underway yet, but the signs are everywhere. Concert schedules are out, vacations are being planned, baseball is in full swing – before you know it, it will be time to break out the

BBQ and open the pool for the first summer soiree. School? Work? Eh, plenty of time for that in the winter. Now it’s just a matter of coordinating all those fun summer plans, which is often easier said than done. Is it just me, or has it become increasingly difficult to set anything in stone? No matter the amount of advance notice, things always seem to fall through at the last second. Me, when I make plans, I stick with them. Barring an unexpected emergency, there is really no legitimate reason to cancel on someone. Call it a pet peeve, but there’s nothing worse

The West Babylon Lions Club is holding its 17th Annual St. Anthony’s Feast from June 7th through June 9th. The Feast has become a West Babylon tradition over the years, where kids and adults get together for good oldfashioned fun and games. Some of the rides featured will include a Ferris Wheel, Tilt-A-Whirl, Merry-Go-Round and Bumper cars. Aside from the rides, remember to bring your appetite! There will be pizza, sausage and peppers, calzones, Philly cheese steak, hamburgers and hot dogs, to name a few. There will be deepfried Oreo’s, cannolis, funnel cakes and ice cream. On Sunday, there will be the traditional Cannolieating contest, and the West Babylon Idol contest.
