Strolling Into Spring been mired in since the holiday season. Just last weekend, I took the time to stroll along two of our pristine Long Island beaches – one on the outskirts of Northport, and the other out on the North Fork. Sure, it was a bit brisk and barren; but just to experience the fresh sea air, to feel the sand beneath my (sneakered) feet, to gaze out onto the crystal blue Long Island Sound… there is something to be said for venturing outside and exploring. That said, it would’ve been nice to have maybe just a couple more snow days to vegetate with a clear conscience, to stay under the covers and catch up on Netflix. The one true “blizzard” was exactly that, one and done, over a weekend. Kind of a waste. The rest of the “snow

days” were more of a minor inconvenience, not nearly enough down time to truly capitalize. That’s the thing about time. When we have it to spare, we don’t often utilize it to its full potential, choosing instead to waste it idling away the hours on trivial things like sleep and mindless chores. Instead, choose to take that leisurely drive, set out on a new adventure to an unexplored corner of the world – even within your own neighborhood. Take pictures, read books, paint, write a song… do things you’ve always wanted to do, today. Tomorrow may be partly cloudy with a chance of rain; but that also means there’s at least an equal chance of sun. May spring be that season of hope for everyone.

She was one of 141 students chosen out of about 4,500 students who applied to sing with the choir. In order to be chosen for the performance, Lobasso was required to video record herself singing a classical piece and send it to the committee. Students used division to distribute the chocolates

equally among their classmates. Each student ended up with five pieces of candy and the class had a remainder of fifteen to share with teachers and staff. The class also read A Hundred Ways to Celebrate 100 Days and got their bodies moving by pumping out 100 jumping jacks and hopping on one foot 100 times.

The West Babylon School District held its second annual STEM Night on February 11th at the Senior High School, featuring dozens of handson activities, experiments, games, mini-labs and more. The evening gave students in grades K-8 and their families an opportunity to spark their interest in the STEM fields. Under the direction of West Babylon Senior High

School science teacher Aimee Mendoza, the West Babylon Senior High School Math and Science Honor Society, National Technology Honor Society and Science Club coordinated and presented the activities. Kicking off the evening with a “Fire and Ice” assembly by Mad Science, visitors had the chance to engage in a variety of activities. The cafeteria

featured arts and crafts and a petting zoo, while the gym housed a technology showcase including demonstrations by the Robotics Club. Up on the third floor of the school, students toured 28 different rooms, with activities ranging from cotton candy polymers to slime time to butterfly symmetry.

New Eagle The West Babylon Lions Club sponsored a Court of Honor Ceremony for Sean at North Lindenhurst Fire Department. For his project, Sean oversaw the restoration of the Larsen Lane Cemetery in West Babylon. Sean says that he completed this project in order to honor the veterans
