Helping Hands is a 501C3 non-profit organization that started in 1990 by Jennifer Gallozzi, a mother who wanted to inspire children and the rest of her community to unite in an effort to assist local children in need. Their mission is to assist local children so that their needs are met, year round. Their “Week of Giving” event started on December 1st and wrapped up on December 5th and they proudly received over 2,000 gifts from generous donors. Some gifts were already distributed to various Headstart Classes and local families and the remainder will be brought to the homes of Suffolk County Helping Hands children on Christmas morning. The organization is so grateful for everyone who came together during this “Week of Giving” and encourages you to serve and or donate to their charity. BEACH STREET STUDENT SUBMITS WINNING COVER DESIGN - Eighth grader Quinn Butler from Beach Street Middle School in the West Islip School District created the winning entry for the 47th annual Festival of Lights program cover contest. UDALL UNVEILS NEW ZEN DEN - Udall Road Middle School in the West Islip School District unveiled its new Zen Den on Dec. 1. Administrators and staff from across the district were invited to celebrate the new space and get inspiration from its design. The new den was a former science classroom but had remained empty for the past few years. To repurpose the space, new lighting and furniture were brought in along with signage featuring words of encouragement and positivity. The space features flexible seating options, so it can be used for a multitude of purposes. Helping Hands Helps Brighten The Holidays For Local Children

Receiver Of Taxes Announces Extended And Holiday Hours Islip Town Receiver of Taxes, Andy Wittman, has announced that his office, located at 40 Nassau Avenue, Islip, NY is accepting payment of the 2023/2024 taxes starting Monday, December 11 2023. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the following exceptions: On December 29th the office will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon. On December 22th, December 25th and January

1st, 2024 the office will be closed. “One evening in January has been set aside for those residents who are unable to pay in person during our regular office hours”, said Mr. Wittman. “On Wednesday, January 10th, the office will remain open until 7:00 p.m.” Tax bills are being mailed out the week of December 11th. Residents can choose to pay their taxes by visiting the Receiver of Taxes Online Payment Portal, Tax.IslipNY.

HELPING HANDS HELPS BRIGHTEN THE HOLIDAYS FOR LOCAL CHILDREN - Helping Hands is a 501C3 non-profit organization that started in 1990 by Jennifer Gallozzi, a mother who wanted to inspire children and the rest of her community to unite in an effort to assist local children in need. Their mission is to assist local children so that their needs are met, year round. Their “Week of Giving” event started on December 1st and wrapped up on December 5th and they proudly received over 2,000 gifts from generous donors. Some gifts were already distributed to various Headstart Classes and local families and the remainder will be brought to the homes of Suffolk County Helping Hands children on Christmas morning. The organization is so grateful for everyone who came together during this “Week of Giving” and encourages you to serve and or donate to their charity. New York State Assemblyman Michael Durso will be hosting a free Shed The Meds dropoff event, in coordination with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday, January 6, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the West Islip Public Library located at 3 Higbie Lane in West Islip. Residents looking to get rid of unwanted or expired medications are invited to drop them off at the library for proper disposal by the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office. All medications should be kept in their original containers or placed in a ziplock bag. Accepted items include prescription medication, prescription patches, over

the counter medications, and vitamins. Items NOT accepted include needles, sharps, or liquid medications. “Proper disposal of medication is crucial to protecting our environment and keeping $
