West Islip School District Breaks Record The West Islip School District again broke the record for the highest attendance at the Suffolk County Music Educators Association’s annual Day of Tuba, sending 32 students from grades 5-12 to participate in rehearsals, clinics and a massed ensemble. Several West Islip students were also selected to perform in the event’s All-Star ensemble. Held at Central Islip High School, the event featured several hundred tuba and euphonium players from across the county. West Islip participating student-musicians were Victoria Swicord of Bayview Elementary School; Lucille Charbonneau, Joseph Nealon, Savas Sioutopoulos and Colin Stueber of Paul J. New Electric Blue Bird School Buses
Islip Town Councilman John C. Cochrane, Jr. recently met with Bay Shore High School Superintendent Joseph C. Bond, State and local officials, to celebrate Bay Shore School District’s launch of their new fully electric Blue Bird school buses. The initiative, which aims to reduce
children’s exposure to harmful emissions, as well as the overall impact of our carbon footprint, kickedoff with the replacing of four diesel-powered school buses with 100% electricpowered buses. Islip Councilman Cochrane congratulated Bay School Schools on the launch of the
environmentally conscious program, and commended the district for becoming the first in Suffolk County to implement the fully electric buses. Bay Shore Schools plan to reduce transportation emissions to 100% emission free, within the next 10 years.

LOCAL ORGANIZATION HELPS CHILDREN IN NEED - Help Mrs. Claus is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization, which answers Christmas wishes that are gathered from children in need. These children are living in NYC through the Harlem Dowling agency, a charity helping children succeed since the 1880’s. The Christmas wishes are first written out in the children’s Letters to Santa. Then Help Mrs. Claus steps in and helps to fulfill these wishes. Since inception 9 years ago, Help Mrs. Claus has granted over 2,000 wishes, but they will not stop there! They are currently in the process of gathering gift donations for the upcoming Holiday Season. With plenty of children in need, they are still looking for volunteers and donations.
