Legislator Steven J. Flotteron officiated the swearing in of Bay Shore Brightwaters Rescue Ambulances’ (BSBRA) incoming officers during their 60th Anniversary Dinner celebrated at Captain Bill’s Restaurant in Bay Shore. More than
200 volunteers, family and community members were in attendance. Founded in 1958, BSBRA is a volunteer non-profit organization that provides Emergency Medical Service to the communities of Bay Shore, Brightwaters, West Bay Shore and Fire
Island. BSBRA responds to approximately 4,000 calls a year for emergency medical assistance and is separate from Bay Shore Fire Department and provides all medical care/ rehabilitation care for all fire scenes.

November’s Charity of the Month is:
The Book Fairies, located in Freeport, NY, is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that accepts donations of new and gently used books and connects them with organizations throughout all five boroughs and Long Island that do not have the funds to foster the love of reading. Some of those organizations are hospitals, schools, veteran organizations and soup kitchens. Reading materials can not only foster literacy and academic success, but they can also provide a respite from personal struggles and nature a love of reading across age groups. Every book that they collect goes through sorting, their process of thoroughly examining the type of book and condition it’s in. With only 2 staff members, The Book Fairies heavily relies on the work of selfless volunteers.
The Book Fairies does more than just impact their local community; they are also dedicated to supporting literacy programs in underdeveloped nations around the world. How to Make Use of a Jacket

Coming up to New York after living in Florida, my nine year old son grew accustomed to living his life in t-shirts and shorts, unencumbered by the heavy winter gear that New Yorkers wear. As the weather has grown colder, he has been resistant to wearing his jacket, hat and gloves; instead insisting on layering t-shirts and sweatshirts. For weeks now, our morning routine has included me begging, pleading, warning him about getting sick, threatening to take away various priviliges, and at
What I’ve realized is, ultimately, I don’t have control. My job as his parent is to empower him with love, values, ideas, compassion, and the information he needs to make the right decisions for himself. All I can do is sit back and allow him to experience the world. This morning, as we were waiting together for the school bus to arrive, I observed that my son’s hat and gloves were inside his backpack; his winter jacket slung over his arm. None of these items were actually on his body. I said, “Uh... you know, carrying a hat and gloves, and holding your winter jacket won’t keep you warm. They only work if you wear them.” He replied, “I know that.” I nodded my head in mutual understanding and said, “Okay, good. I just want to be sure that
It’s my decision,” he slung his arms through his jacket. As a singular stance of independence, he skipped the gloves. I was okay with that. They are in need of sorting volunteers to come to their Freeport location on one of their sorting days (Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday) and help sort through all their current book donations. If you are 13 or older you can come alone and if you are younger than 13 you will need a guardian to accompany you. If you’re interested in volunteering as a sorter, there is no need to reserve your space. Simply show up at their Freeport location (70 North Main St. - Back Entrance) on one of their sorting days between 10AM and 3PM! Additionally, book donations and financial donations are always welcome and The Book Fairies is in need of corporate sponsors. Fourth-graders at West Islip’s Bayview Elementary School were immersed in Native American culture during a recent PTA-sponsored assembly program, “Journeys into American Indian Territory,” giving them a hands-on experience that NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURE - Fourth-graders at West Islip’s Bayview they will never forget. Throughout the day, the Elementary School were immersed in Native American culture during the “Journeys into American Indian Territory” assembly program. American games, utilized question and answer periods, and took part in authentic ceremonies including an Iroquois council, where they assumed the roles of the clanspeople. Philadelphia Flower Show Bus Trip Wednesday, March 6, 2019 $69 includes transportation, admission and gratuities.
Join us for our annual trip to the flower show! This year’s theme will be Flower Power, will pay tribute to the enormous impact of flowers on our lives. Exhibits will take a holistic approach to the theme with sweeping landscapes and artful interpretations that inspire, convey emotions, examine fragrance and color and convey a universal language. Registration begins Wednesday, December 5. Please note: Lunch is not included, but there are many opportunities nearby for dining on your own.
The Children’s Department will be collecting new or handmade hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, slippers, and socks for children and adults. All collected items will be donated to local agencies serving those in need in our area. Collected items will be displayed on our Holiday Tree for all to see and enjoy.
The Marine Corps Reserves will again be collecting new, unwrapped toys for families in need. Please note: plush animals must be in sealed packaging.

Essential Functions: • Respond to requests for technical assistance by telephone and other channels. • Provide technical expertise to security professionals in the areas of installation, troubleshooting, upgrade and optimization of security hardware and software products. • Determine the best solution for each inquiry, issue or request by applying and / or adapting existing knowledge and best practices. • Utilize existing support tools, techniques and methodology. • Participate in the capture of new knowledge and solutions. • Document and track each customer interaction from initial contact through closure. Required Qualifications and Skills: • Experience in alarm systems, security products, locking products, access control or video. • Some experience in help desk, technical support, customer service or telephone support is desirable. • Good computer literacy, including MS Windows-based systems and basic networking experience (i.e. understanding of routers, switches, TCP/IP, etc.) • Extremely detail oriented, possess a high sense of urgency and demonstrate world class follow through skills. • Customer service oriented, ‘people person’ with great communication skills (verbal and written). • ‘Team Player’ with ability to work both individually and collaboratively. • Able to work on site within the hours of 8:30 AM to 8:00 PM, Monday through Friday (full 8.5 hour shifts). • Fluency in Spanish is a plus, although not required.
