The West Islip Robotics Team participated in New York State Senator Boyle’s Beach Cleanup on September 17th. This was the fourth year that Senator Boyle has hosted the event as part of the International Coastal Cleanup, a global effort in which more than 100 countries participate. Our beaches are such a cherished part of Long Island living and ocean

trash is a serious problem that affects ocean life and local economies. The team met at Robert Moses and spent two hours removing plastic, cigarettes and other trash from the beach. The West Islip Robotics Team recognizes the importance and beauty of our local beaches and was proud to participate in Senator Boyle’s beach cleanup and be part of the International
Coastal Cleanup. Look for the team next weekend at the West Islip Country Fair. In addition to helping the fair committee set up and clean up for this beloved town event, the team will have their own exhibition. A robot will be available for people to operate and robotics members will be on hand to discuss the benefits of being part of the team.

It’s been 15 years since I last set foot on the Edward Kienle Memorial Field as a member of the Lindenhurst Class of 2000. Fifteen years of living and learning and building a life based on the foundation set forth in the schools of good old Lindy, from the playgrounds of Daniel Street Elementary School all the way on up to the hallways of Lindenhurst High School. Each year, on Homecoming weekend, I return to the site where it all began – to reminisce, to reflect, and to soak in the autumn sun with some fellow alumni. Funny thing is, I rarely run into
anyone from my own class; mostly faculty, coaches, the occasional younger sibling of someone I went to school with… I suppose the novelty wears off after the first year or two, certainly once college has been completed and “real” life begins. But for me, it is and always will be, home. The field, the bleachers, the school… the crisp fall air that signals the start of football season, Homecoming floats parading down the street and the scent of concession stand goodies wafting through the air. Lindy pride on display in all its green and white glory, indeed. Sure, there is college Homecoming and all the
festivities that come along with it as well – but the connection is not nearly as strong as the one forged in the district I called home for 13 years, 13 formative years of discovering my passions in life and gaining the confidence to pursue them. Once a Bulldog, Always a Bulldog, as they say in Lindy. And so I will continue to sit on those bleachers and smile, and remember all the good times. I will cheer on the home team, no matter if I recognize the faces, and find comfort in the unique bond that we all share. I will reflect upon those friendships forged and those many special moments enjoyed through the years. Go Bulldogs!

Saint Cyril and Methodius’s Cross Country team hit the ground running in Deer Park, even before the school year got rolling! With Coach Amber Sanchez at the helm, the team began meeting up in August to start training and learning the ins and outs of what it takes to challenge themselves in the coming weeks during the Cross Country season. Coach Sanchez is a triathlete, fitness instructor and mother of three boys at Saints Cyril and Methodius and has been volunteer coaching SSCM’s Cross Country team for three years now. The Catholic Middle School Athletic

Saints Cyril and Methodius has participated in CMSAA programs for over five years and this year’s Cross Country Team includes 16 middle school boys and girls, whose practices and meets take them to a diverse range of Long Island terrains and parks, such as Belmont Lake State Park, Sunken Meadow, and Heckscher Park, to name a few. You also can have the chimney capped with a screen to keep animals and debris from entering. Inspect the damper. A damper is a

AP Named West Islip’s Beach Street Middle School has a new assistant principal. Reanna Fulton, a former teacher at the school, will begin her duties on October 11th. Fulton most recently served as the CSE administrator for grades 6-12 in the Rocky Point School District, a position
she took in January 2016. She had previously worked as a special education teacher at both Beach Street and West Islip High School since 2008, and as an in-school-suspension teacher at the high school from 2007-2008. She earned her bachelor’s degree in history at Thomas Edison State
College in Trenton, New Jersey in 2005; a master’s degree in adolescent education at Dowling College in 2006; a master’s degree in history at the University of Nebraska in Kearney in 2014; and an advanced graduate certificate in educational leadership from Stony Brook University in 2015.
Fulton also served as an information systems technician in the U.S. Navy from 1998-2003 and in the Naval Reserves from 2006-2009. Her several school coaching positions included stints as the soccer coach at Our Lady of Wisdom in Port Jefferson, and as the cheerleading coach at West Islip High
