Rebuilding Together Long Island is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. They are an affiliate of the national organization, Rebuilding Together. They provide free home repairs to the frail and elderly, our veterans, people with d i s a b i l i t i e s and families with children. Those who receive the free home repairs must have met their financial criteria. Their mission as an organization is to repair homes, revitalize communities and rebuild lives. They help Long Island’s economicallydisadvantaged homeowners so they can live in comfort and safety while maintaining their independence (RTLI does not service the Hamptons). This organization performs repairs including carpentry, electrical, plumbing and home modifications (including wheelchair ramps for the physically challenged), weatherization, installation of smoke alarms, back and front yard clean-up and more. Since 1992 they have provided repairs to over 2,600 homeowners in need at a current pace of over 150 projects annually within Nassau and Suffolk. After featuring a powerful testimonial last week, I’d like to feature another testimonial this week to show just how much of an impact the work of this organization has on the Long Island community. One thankful Long Island resident that has received help from RTLI said, “Your organization is truly a blessing to people like me who have no one and no finances at all to ever cover all the fixings. You’ve made it possible for me to have some peace of mind so I can still be able to stay in my home, the only “roots” I know.”
1) Volunteer. They are looking for volunteers to work hands on with a crew performing home repair work. Individuals do not have to have specific handyman skills, training is available. All volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Additionally, they are looking for a licensed Plumber or Electrician to volunteer their time and skills to help on specific projects. Lastly, they are in need of home visitors to walk through the homes of needy individuals for a safety inspection. 2) Sponsor a Project. RTLI allows corporations to sponsor a project so they can see a positive impact on the life of a senior, veteran, disabled person or a family in need. This is a great opportunity team building and a community leadership opportunity for your employees. Why not demonstrate your organization’s commitment to community service and improving the quality of life on Long Island! 3) Attend a Meeting. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month at their office located at 208 Route 109, Suite 204 in Farmingdale at 10 am. 4) Donate. Consider making a donation to their organization. Funding is a continuous requirement to support their efforts. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated. The money you donate stays on Long Island to help our Long Island neighbors! A total of 33 exceptional language students from West Islip’s high school and middle schools recently scored gold, silver or bronze on the National Spanish Exam. Beach Street Middle School eighth graders in Maria LaPinta’s class who scored medals on the Level 1 exam were gold medalists Bradynn Alessi, Sophia Bahm, Eugene Ditaranto and Isabella Keogan; silver medalists Emily Bahm, Asfar Chaudhry, Amanda Dolan, Avery Lanzarotta and Alexander Prokopiou; and bronze medalists Aixa Dadd, Keston Hartman, Meghan Henry, Kayla Huners, Erick Rivas, Sebastian Roman, Samantha Sadowski and Gabriella Toala. Udall Road Middle School eighth graders in Kristina Rocco’s class who scored medals on the Level 1 exam were gold medalist Edward Chrostek; silver medalists Jack Greene, Elizabeth Lam, Andrew Rao and Vincenza Robiglio; and bronze medalists Eiurlan Coppola and Grace Iehle. West Islip High School students in Maria Simeone’s class who scored medals on the Level 3 exam were gold medalist Amanda Ditaranto; silver medalists Sophia Crudele, John DiBenedetto and Olivia Minissale; and bronze medalists Angelina Amatulli-Griffith, Alexa Camillery, Emily Lau, Lindsey Pritchard and Kevin Rion.

MEET THE WEST ISLIP VALEDICTORIAN AND SALUTATORIAN - West Islip High School’s valedictorian and salutatorian for the Class of 2019 are Madison Esposito and Douglas Dillman, respectively. Esposito, who earned a weighted GPA of 106.57, is an accomplished scientist. A New York American Chemical Society award recipient, she served as project leader at Brookhaven National Laboratory and earned a Second Place Grand Award at the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair. She also serves as the director of the school’s literary magazine and senior leader for the Rotary Youth Leadership Association, is first chair viola for the chamber orchestra, and plays on the varsity field hockey team. Esposito will attend Princeton University, majoring in astrophysics and English. Douglas Dillman, who earned a weighted GPA of 105.89, is an International Baccalaureate Diploma Candidate.
