Hope House Ministries is a non-profit organization located in Port Jefferson. They provide compassionate, comprehensive and competent care for the poor, the marginal and the wounded among us. This commitment is woven in the Gospel vision that all life is sacred and every human person is unique and has the right to be respected and protected. They have accomplished much over the 40+ years they have been helping others with minimal financial assistance from federal, state or county agencies. They depend on the generosity of private contributions, fundraising events and corporate donations. Hope House Ministries services people in both Nassau County and Suffolk County, offering services free of charge. Together, their staff and volunteers have created an empowering sense of family and community that are the change agents, helping young people grow in self-discipline, critical thinking, problem solving skills and personal responsibility. There are so many ways that this non-profit can truly help you get your life on a better track. Additionally, there are plenty of ways for people to get involved in helping others through volunteering. Over the past 40 years, thousands of people have donated their time and talent to help this organization reach those in need. In 2013, the founder of Hope House Ministries approached long-time supporters of this organization, Barbara and Arti, with an idea of a retail space that could bring in needed funds for Little Portion Frirary, a home which houses 65 young men in recovery of drug and alcohol addiction that is ran by Hope House Ministries. The hope was that the proceeds that would potentially be brought in from a retail space could pay for these young men’s college classes, food, utilities and transportation costs. Some years later, the perfect location for a store was found and they decided to open up a beautiful boutique there. Since their organization is all about second chances, they called it Hope
Springs Eternal Second Chance Boutique. This boutique is open to the public MondaySaturday from 11AM-5PM. You can expect to find beautiful items for sale here, such as clothing (some still with tags on them), household goods, and furniture. They only accept very gently used items and everything is cleaned and prepared for sale by a team of dedicated volunteers (the boutique is operated by volunteers only)! The selfless efforts of their volunteers truly makes the store feel warm and inviting. Longevity in marriage is something to be celebrated. Couples who reach fiftieth and sixtieth wedding anniversaries often commemorate those anniversaries with big parties. But there are some around the world who would consider golden anniversary celebrants to still be newlyweds. In December 2015, Karam Chand, 110, and his wife, Kartari Chand, 103, from Bradford, West Yorkshire (originally from India), celebrated their 90th wedding anniversary, becoming the world’s longest-betrothed couple. In America, John and Ann Betar, ages 104 and 100, respectively, have been married 83 years as of 2016. The couple eloped in 1932. They have been named one of America’s longest-married couples by the Worldwide Marriage Encounter.

West Islip’s Beach Street and Udall Road middle schools found success participating in the virtual Science Olympiad in March. To prepare, students meet virtually for practices and with their teammates. Beach Street students
competed in all of 15 events and eared medals by placing in the top 10 for six of these events: Anatomy and Physiology, Circuit Lab, Crime Busters, Food Science, Heredity and Water Quality. Udall students competed in 11 events and were awarded
medals for the Machines, Reach for the Stars and Water Quality events. “We are very proud of all the participants for their hard work and dedication,” said Udall’s principal, Dr. Daniel Marquardt.
West Islip’s Football Lions Win County Championship West Islip High School’s football tradition of excellence continued with a Suffolk County Division II championship. The undefeated 2020-2021 football team played in its fifth consecutive Section
XI county finals on April 24, beating Bellport 24-21 in an exciting come-frombehind effort. “Congratulations to head coach Steve Mileti, his staff, the players and their families on this
priceless accomplishment during very challenging times,” said Tim Horan, the district’s director of health, physical education, athletics and recreation.

While flowers certainly add beauty and a wonderful aroma to wedding ceremonies and receptions, there are other reasons behind their inclusion in such festivities.
