The Charity of The Month for February is: Girls on the Run of Long Island www.gotrlongisland.org Girls on the Run is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. They run a physical activity-based positive youth development program that is designed to enhance girls’ social, psychological and physical skills and behaviors to help them successfully navigate life experiences.
This organization also runs a program called Heart & Sole. This is their middle school program that meets the unique needs of girls in 6th-8th grade. Heart & Sole takes girls as a whole into consideration body, brain, heart, spirit and social connection - in a positive and structured space, where participants can learn about themselves, explore new ideas, cultivate empathy and stregthen connections. Running is incorporated into each lesson to encourage physical wellness. These girls also prepare for a celebratory 5K event at the end of the program. The upcoming spring season

They serve girls in grades 3-5 and inspire them to be joyful, healthy and confident by using a fun, interactive curriculum, which creatively integrates running! Meeting twice a week in small teams for a 10-week season, a volunteer coach will teach girls life skills through engaging lessons and fun movement activities. At each season’s conclusion, all girls from teams across Long Island will meet up for a celebratory 5K running event.

In December 2015, Karam Chand, 110, and his wife, Kartari Chand, 103, from Bradford, West Yorkshire (originally from India), celebrated their 90th wedding anniversary, becoming the world’s longest-betrothed couple. In America, John and Ann Betar, ages 104 and 100, respectively, have been married 83 years as of 2016. The couple eloped in 1932. They have been named one of America’s longest-married couples by the Worldwide Marriage Encounter.

TICKET MASTER SHARES TIPS - Brian Stoll had an epiphany while a student at SUNY Binghamton. His college ID gave him access to discounted Broadway Theatre tickets. Since those college days, the West Islip resident has mastered how to buy a Broadway Theatre ticket for less than $50 a seat, and he wants to share his knowledge. Stoll has seen hundreds of Broadway performances on the Great White Way, and he's taking his show on the road, lecturing at local libraries and offering money-saving tips. “My goal is to encourage Long Islanders to support the arts and see more shows. And I do that by informing them how to see shows like I have for under $50 a ticket,” said Stoll. “I love Broadway because it’s LIVE. It’s happening right now! Anything can happen and it’s only going to happen that one night. They’ll repeat the show, but it’s never going to be the same,” he added. “Nothing compares to the excitement of Broadway,” said Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter. “Brian’s tips make it affordable for a family or friends to enjoy the theatre,” she added. Stoll can be booked for a lecture through his Facebook Page, Stoll the Show. “I feel like I’m a theatre-addict. This is my support group. So when I give a talk at a library, it’s theatreholics anonymous,” Stoll chuckled.

The Freshman, JV, and Varsity teams had a special visit; high school basketball teams from Australia. Currently, the Australian school is on break for their summer vacation. Joined by their coaches, they traveled to the United States to compete against teams all across America, including New York. The three teams each played one another and exchanged gifts. Afterwards they all had dinner together, and shared stories from across the globe.
