The Cemetery of Lost Souls is a grass roots organization that gears up each year to create an elaborate Haunted House on the founder’s property, located at 350 Broadway in Massapequa Park. Every bit of money raised through their annual event (admission, donations, sponsorships, etc.) is given to a chosen charity. They have raised a lot of money over the years in donations alone and have donated to charities such as Autism Speaks, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Long Island Cares. This year they are bringing the community a new interactive experience with the second Lost Souls Walk-Thru haunt, new rooms, new scares and new thrills! Each event has been going great, with up to hundreds of guests each night! The remaining events will run on October 31 and November 1-2 from 7PM-11:30PM. On Halloween, their event will be kid-friendly! There will be no actors and walk through tours of their haunted house will be given. The chosen charity for 2019 is Melissa’s Wish, a nonprofit organization founded with the purpose of providing short term, nonmedical financial aid in the form of a grant to caregivers who are assisting those afflicted with a serious illness, injury or end of life event. Longevity in marriage is something to be celebrated. Couples who reach fiftieth and sixtieth wedding anniversaries often commemorate those anniversaries with big parties. But there are some around the world who would consider golden anniversary celebrants to still be newlyweds. In December 2015, Karam Chand, 110, and his wife, Kartari Chand, 103, from Bradford, West Yorkshire (originally from India), celebrated their 90th wedding anniversary, becoming the world’s longest-betrothed couple. In America, John and Ann Betar, ages 104 and 100, respectively, have been married 83 years as of 2016. The couple eloped in 1932. They have been named one of America’s longest-married couples by the Worldwide Marriage Encounter.

It was a day of celebration on Oct. 12 as students, staff and community members representing the Babylon School District participated in the annual homecoming festivities on a beautiful fall day. The day kicked off with the third annual Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame celebration at Babylon Junior-Senior High School’s Rowe Hall, where three new members were inducted. This year’s honorees included U.S. Air Force Sgt. Matthew Caruso (Air Force Chief Master Sergeant/Class of ’87), the late Gilbert Hanse (Babylon mayor/Class of ’32) and David Lovalvo (Founder/President/CEO of The Global Foundation for Ocean Exploration/

Class of ‘72). “Today’s honorees’ deeds and characters exemplify outstanding achievement in their life’s work and/or service to their communities,” said Mrs. Rozzi. “We believe the recipients of this honor stand as shining examples for current, as well as future, Babylon generations and are looked up to as people to someday emulate.” Following the ceremony, the annual homecoming parade kicked off throughout the decorative streets of Babylon Village. Onlookers cheered as various student and community groups marched with smiles on their faces as they made their way along the parade route. To commemorate

the special day, each grade level decorated their floats to represent a different season, and at halftime, the sophomore class was recognized with the best float award for their depiction of the winter season. The attention turned to coach Walter F. Williams Field as the Panthers played host to the Greenport/Southold/ Mattituck High School’s combined football team. The game belonged to Babylon from the opening kickoff, as they cruised to a decisive 40-0 victory by the time the buzzer rang at the end of the fourth quarter. Quarterback Luke Lassen was 4-for5 for 104 yards and two passing touchdowns to lead the way, while Joe Young threw a touchdown

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) encourages everyone to take these simple precautions to stay safe without sacrificing that fun. “Halloween brings an opportunity to wear fun costumes, decorate our homes, and eat too much candy,” says Lorraine Carli, NFPA’s vice president of Outreach and Advocacy. “However, without proper safety precautions, we run the risk of turning good times into the wrong kind of scary ones.” According to NFPA research, between 2012 and 2016, decorations were the item first ignited in an estimated average of 800 reported home structure fires per year, resulting in an average of two civilian deaths, 34 civilian injuries and $11 million in direct
