Each cemetery has its own set of rules regarding cremated remains. One will say that the cremated remains constitute the equivalent of a body. Fall has arrived and with that Babylon Village Aerts Council, a local notfor profit organization, will present an array of free cultural events tool Long Island residents during October. On Saturday, October 12, BVAC will present a Family Concert featuring Sally Rogers at the First Presbyterian Church of Babylon located at 79 Main Street. Sally Rogers comes alive in a roomful of singing children. This concert will be full of joy and laughter,
with lots of songs to join in on. Families have been loving Sally’s music for over 40 years, whether live in concert or on her 4 award-winning CDs for children. Children ages 5 or older may join in the fun accompanied by a parent. Music begins at 2:00. In partnership with the Friends of the Babylon Library , BVAC will present its first Sunday Classical Music event featuring David Glukh with Gennady Gutkin on Sunday, October 20 at the Babylon Library
located at 24 South Carll Ave. David Glukh will present an afternoon of Classical music performed on his signature piccolo trumpet accompanied by Gennady Gutkin on piano. Since his graduation from The Juilliard School in May 2000, David Glukh has per- formed many solo and ensemble engagements throughout the world. David Glukh was born in Moscow in 1975 where he attended the Gnessin School of MusicI. In1990 he immigrated to Israel
where he spent the following three years in the Thelma Yellin High School for the Arts. He later served in the Army Orchestra from 1993 to 1996. The music begins at 2. BVAC’s PLAY IT FORWARD fundraiser will be held on Sunday, Dec. 1 for the 2pm matinee production of ‘Miracle on 34th Street” at the Argyle Theater. Tickets are on sale now at $64. Students enrolled in Claire Reilly’s Virtual Enterprise Class at the Babylon Junior-Senior High School recently embarked upon a tower building team exercise in an effort to strengthen their problem-solving skills. Based upon a theory explained in a TED Talk by author Tom Wujec, students had 18 minutes to build a tower with a limited number of supplies such as
spaghetti, masking tape, string and marshmallows, with the objective to build the highest tower with the marshmallow resting on top. According to Mrs. Reilly, this exercise proved to be a lot of fun for the students, and simultaneously helped to illustrate how much work is involved in problemsolving and product development. The Virtual Enterprise course provides an
opportunity for students to create their own product, run their own business and sell to other Virtual Enterprise firms on Long Island, New York, the United States and abroad. Students are tasked with various responsibilities and assume corporate roles such as CEO, CFO, COO, network administrator, marketing administrator, human resources director, payroll manager and more.

In an effort to foster creativity and collaborative learning skills, students from Babylon Elementary School have a new way of engaging in handson projects thanks to the introduction of the building’s new makerspace classroom. With assistance from

You can benefit Melissa’s Wish in various ways. Of course you can attend one of this year’s Haunted House events (all proceeds will benefit this organization), you can donate on their website or you can become a sponsor of their
organization. Additionally, you can become involved with the Cemetery of Lost Souls in many ways. They are actively looking for volunteers in the following areas: Digital Marketing (to help with social media marketing), Scare Team Members (actors to help put on the event), Security (watching over the event and making sure all guests are safe), Bake Team Members (to donate baked goods to sell at some of the events) and lastly, they are looking for an Electrician (to volunteer a few hours to help finalize last minute details for the event). Volunteers must be 16 years of age and volunteer time can count towards community service hours! Sponsorship opportunities are also available. This organization is looking for local businesses to sponsor the event. All sponsors will be listed on their website and will be given the opportunity to have their logo and or a small clip on a big screen at the event in front of the waiting line. The Cemetery of Lost Souls is a grass roots organization that gears up each year to create an elaborate Haunted House on the founder’s property, located at 350 Broadway in Massapequa Park. E v e r y bit of money raised through their annual event (admission, donations, sponsorships, etc.) is given to a chosen charity. They rely heavily on devoted individuals and community support, as the actors and people who put on the haunt are volunteers. They have raised a lot of money over the years in donations alone and have donated to charities such as Autism Speaks, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Long Island Cares. This year they will bring the community a new interactive experience with the second Lost Souls Walk-Thru haunt, new rooms, new scares and new thrills! The event will run on October 12, 18-19, 25-26, 31 and November 1-2 from 7PM-11:30PM. The chosen charity for 2019 is Melissa’s Wish, a non-profit organization founded with the purpose of providing short term, non-medical financial aid in the form of a grant to caregivers who are assisting those afflicted with a serious illness, injury or end of life event.
