Further expanding upon their robust artistic talents, students from the Babylon-Junior Senior High School hosted a “Babylon Book” exhibition and artist reception at the Babylon Old Town Hall in early August. After taking a walking tour of the Village of Babylon, the students recreated the beautiful sights in order to create an illustrated version of the area. The students who had work featured were from both Cheryl Schweider’s and Patricia Stork’s art classes. The Charity of the Month for September is: The Twilight Wish Foundation www.twilightwish.org

and respects our senior population. Twilight Wish recipients report that having their wish granted impacted their life for the better. Their mental and physical health often improved, positively changing their outlook on life! The wishes that this organization grants truly changes the way that our society views aging, as it witnesses seniors living life to the fullest. By sharing their recipients’ stories, they inspire both older and younger generations and help bring about a cultural shift in how aging is perceived in our society. To date, the Twilight Wish Foundation has granted over 3,000 wishes throughout our country, ranging from simple needs wishes, such as shaving razors for nursing home veterans, to living life to the fullest wishes, such as going cross country in a tractor trailer truck. This Foundation has expanded throughout America and they currently have 17 chapters. The majority of their chapter directors and chapter volunteers have full-time jobs, but volunteer their time because they believe so much in the impact Twilight Wish has on our senior population. They are presently looking to expand their outreach to seniors by making our business and community leaders/charitable organizations aware of who they are. In the United States today, 1 in 3 seniors older than 65 live alone and the number of seniors living alone only increases with age. Student Serves His Tennis Dreams The Babylon School District is thrilled to announce that Babylon Junior-Senior High School Junior Jaden Rupolo was selected to be a ball person for the U.S. Open currently taking place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center through

early September. Jaden, who began playing tennis in the eighth grade, currently plays on Babylon JuniorSenior High School’s varsity tennis team. In order to be selected as a ball person for the 2019 U.S. Open, Jaden

went through a rigorous selection process. More than 500 hopefuls from 15 states tried out, and out of that amount, only 150 individuals were selected to advance, including Jaden himself. During the tryout and callback rounds, the officials simulated what

would be required of him during a match, such as retrieving the ball from the net, rolling it to the other ball person and tossing it to the players. “As an avid tennis player, it’s an honor to be a ball person at the U.S. Open,” said Jaden. “I knew going

into this process that the odds of making it were slim, but I am so glad I made the cut; it’s very exciting to be on the same court with the greatest tennis players in the world.” It is Jaden’s goal to earn a tennis scholarship in order to further pursue

both his studies and love for the sport at the collegiate level. Starting in the fall, he will go back to training five times a week in an effort to continue to improve his game. He also plans on competing in local U.S. Tennis Association tournaments.
