The North Babylon High School Concert band took home a silver award medal at the New York State School Music Association Majors Festival, which highlighted several talented ensembles from across Long Island. North Babylon was awarded the silver medal for demonstrating an
excellent level of technical and artistic skill. The band consisted of 90 members and was evaluated by two professional adjudicators on various musical concepts including balance, blend, tempo, style, dynamics and accuracy. The festival challenged the students to rehearse

The North Babylon School District’s Board of Education, administration, staff, family and friends filled the North Babylon High School’s newly renovated stadium for the June 28 commencement ceremony of the high school’s graduating Class of 2019. The ceremony kicked off with the presentation of colors by the North Babylon Fire Department, followed by senior members of the orchestra and concert choir reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Prior to receiving their diplomas, the 377 students heard from several speakers who shared their wisdom and words of motivation for their new journey. This included Superintendent of Schools Glen Eschbach, Principal Jonathan Klomp, faculty speaker Dwayne Farris, senior class presidents Sierra Echevarria and Melinda Kayku, valedictorian Evgenia Kennedy and salutatorian
John Rivera. Mr. Klomp provided three tricks for students to be mindful of when striving for success. This includes being aware of their feelings, taking microbreaks and breaking up their goals into smaller goals. “Here at the high school, we reminded you constantly of Mahatma Gandhi’s words, ‘We must be the change we wish to see in the world,’” he said. “Large change begins with small change and I wish all of you many strong beginnings, many incredible endings and a minimal number of struggles in the middle.” Superintendent Eschbach left students with final words of advice by encouraging them to be kind, be proud of who they are and stay true to themselves. “Take time to reflect back on all you have accomplished and use it to fuel your next chapter,” he said. “Always remember your Bulldog pride and your North Babylon roots which have helped shape

Class Of 2019 Become Graduates the fine individuals you have become.” In his speech, salutatorian John Rivera addressed his fellow classmates and highlighted that they are in control of their stories and have the power to make a difference in the world. With that, valedictorian Evgenia Kennedy took the podium and urged students to look for the good in the world. “I have faith that despite the challenging issues of today, we can come together as a generation to impact change,” she said. “In the end, it doesn’t matter where the river takes you, as long as you go through life with a sense of commitment, compassion and an open mind.” Following the distribution of diplomas, the North Babylon High School’s Class of 2019 turned the tassels on their caps from right to left and then joined together in CLASS OF 2019 BECOME GRADUATES - North Babylon High School’s Class of the ceremonial cap toss. 2019 joined together in the ceremonial cap toss after they officially became graduates. The Charity of the Month for July is: Rebuilding Together Long Island

Rebuilding Together Long Island (RTLI) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that is an affiliate of the national organization, Rebuilding Together. RTLI works yearround with their focus on keeping people safe in their home, as well as making sure that they have safe access into their home. While most of their clients are elderly, they will help anyone who meets their income guidelines and classify as low-income with limited assets. Additionally, they have a special program to help our deserving veterans in need. As a way to thank them for their service, they created the Hero Home Improvement Program, which aligns with their mission of repairing homes, revitalizing communities and rebuilding lives. This organization performs repairs including carpentry, electrical, plumbing and home modifications (including wheelchair ramps for the physically challenged), weatherization, installation of smoke alarms, back and front yard clean-ups and more. Since 1992 they have provided repairs to over 2,600 homeowners in need at a current pace of over 150 projects annually within Nassau and Suffolk. There are many ways that you can become involved with RTLI, whether that be individually or as a company! Corporate sponsors are a huge help to the organization and it can benefit your company greatly as well. Corporate sponsors are companies that make the decision to fund a RTLI project for someone in need. Their employees will be able to participate in hands on work with the project they sponsor so their company can
have the chance to take part in a team building and community leadership opportunity. When they become a corporate sponsor, companies will get to see immediate positive impact on the life of a senior, veteran, disabled individual or a family in need, while demonstrating their company’s commitment to community service and improving the quality of life right here on Long Island. These sponsors will also get acknowledged on the RTLI website, in their quarterly newsletter and on social media. Additionally, if you are a business professional and are interested in getting involved with Rebuilding Together Long Island, the opportunity is available. RTLI is now interviewing business professionals to become an integral part of their Advisory Board and help advance their mission, whether it be through financial contributions, in-kind donations, networking capabilities or another way. STUDENTS PAINT WITH THEIR PETS - Third and fourth grade students from the Babylon Memorial Grade School recently paid a visit to the Babylon Junior-Senior High School to engage in a pet-portrait painting session with assistance from studentartists of the National Art Honor Society. Students were invited to bring in photographs of their dogs, cats, lizards and hamsters, which would in turn blossom into a gorgeous painting once splashes of color were applied to the supplied canvases. Our Heroes Night Out is a family ran organization that honors and supports veterans living in a treatment facility at the Northport V.A. They do this by bringing them entertainment and programs or simply by taking them out for a night of fun! This organization is currently looking for volunteers to share their time with veterans. School Hosts STEAM Night As a means of showcasing all of the wonderful things happening in science, technology, art, mathematics and engineering, the Babylon Elementary School recently hosted its inaugural STEAM Night, inviting students and their families to the school for an evening of fun and learning. Thanks to the efforts of Babylon Elementary School STEAM instructor Emily Moran and the Babylon Elementary School ParentTeacher Association, the
school’s gymnasium and cafeteria were transformed into a number of STEAMoriented activity stations for all to enjoy. Included were challenges such as “Build Your Own Parachute,” where students were given a number of common household items to build a parachute which could be gently thrown off the gym bleachers, along with a creation station which allowed them to build their very own lava lamps and create massive balloon

towers. Additionally, the night featured engineeringoriented KEVA Planks, and a large coloring wall in the cafeteria made generously by Ms. Moran herself. Whether the service is a tradional funeral with a wake, funeral mass and an interment or the service is a memorial mass or memorial funeral service which takes place after the cremation or interment. West Babylon School District recently held its spring varsity athletic awards celebration. The district honored all of the varsity athletes who competed during the spring sports season. This year’s superintendent’s awards
were presented to Caitlin McGuire and Jay Santana. The All-Around Senior Athlete award receipients were Emily Heller and Matt Volz. Two West Babylon senior athletes, Brenden Reese and Nadja Ashley, were also honored at the
Butch Dellecave Awards. The Dellecave Award is presented to a male and female student-athlete who has athletic prowess, demonstrates excellence in the classroom and contributes within the community.
