TROOP 104 ARROW OF LIGHT - On Sunday, April 25th, 20212 Cub Scout troop 104 held their Arrow of light ceremony whereas those scouts crossed the bridge and became members of troop 2014. NOTICE OF ANNUAL MEETING MAY 18, 2021 WEST BABYLON UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT TOWN OF BABYLON SUFFOLK COUNTY, NEW YORK NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that voting on the school district budget for the year 2021/2022 and election of Members of the Board of Education will take place on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 for the transaction of business as authorized by the Education Law by Ballot on Voting Machines or by Paper Ballot, if voting machines are not available or as otherwise provided by Law or Regulation. All times set forth herein are prevailing time. Form of proposition will be as follows: PROPOSITION NO. 1 Shall the following Proposition be adopted? Shall the school District budget proposed by the Board of Education of the West Babylon Union Free School District for the Fiscal year 2021-2022 requiring the appropriation of the necessary funds to meet the estimated expenditures of the District in accordance with Section 1716 of the Education Law and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the District be adopted. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that pursuant to Chapter 258 of the Laws of 2008, Section 495 was added to the Real Property Tax Law, and requires the School District to attach to its proposed budget an exemption report. Said exemption report, which will also become part of the final budget, will show how much of the total assessed value on the final assessment roll used in the budgetary process is exempt from taxation; list every type of exemption granted, identified by statutory authority, and show: (a) the cumulative impact of each type of exemption expressed either as a dollar amount of assessed value or as a percentage of the total assessed value on the roll: (b) the cumulative amount expected to be received from recipients of each type of exemption as payments in lieu of taxes or other payments for municipal services; and (c) the cumulative impact of all exemptions granted. The exemption report shall be posted on any bulletin board maintained by the District for public notices and any website maintained by the District. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2021/2022 will be prepared and will be available on the website (www.wbschools.org) and may be accessed by any resident of the district on and after April 27, 2021 and will be mailed to each household on or before May 5, 2021. No absentee voter’s ballot shall be canvassed unless it shall have been received in the Office of the Clerk of the School District no later than 5:00 P.M., prevailing time, on the day of the election, Tuesday, May 18, 2021. AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that Military voters who are not currently registered may apply to register as a qualified voter of the West Babylon Union Free School District as defined by Section 2018(d)(1)(b) of the Education Law and Part 122.2 (f) of the Regulations of the New York State Commissioner of Education. Military Absentee Ballots (1) A military voter may designate a preference to receive a military voter registration, military ballot application and/or military ballot by mail, facsimile transmission or electronic mail in their request for a registration application, ballot application or ballot. Military voters shall inform the West Babylon Board of Education of any change in the designated transmission address or military status. (4) In order for a military voter to be issued a military ballot, the West Babylon district must have received in the office of the school district clerk, a valid ballot application not later than 5:00 p.m. of the day preceding the last day for the transmission of military ballots. (5) Ballots for military voters shall be mailed or otherwise distributed by the West Babylon Board of Education, in accordance with the military voter’s preferred method of transmission, (facsimile, electronic mail or mail), as soon as practicable, but not later than April 23, 2021.

(6) Irrespective of the preferred method of transmission designed by a military voter, a military voter’s original military ballot application and military ballot must be returned by mail or email to the appropriate District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. of the date of the election. (7) Nothing contained herein shall prevent a military voter from requesting and obtaining a military voter registration application, military ballot application. MILITARY VOTER REGISTRATION (a) Personal registration application. (1) A military voter who is not currently registered may request a registration application from the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles as provided herein or request a registration application from the School District’s Clerk at 10 Farmingdale Road, West Babylon, New York 11704 or by email to bburrows@ wbschools.org. MILITARY BALLOT APPLICATIONS. A. Generally. (1) A military voter may request and obtain from the West Babylon Union Free School District Board of Education, an application for a military ballot. (2)(i) Military voters shall submit a separate military ballot application for each election at which they wish to cast a vote, except as provided in subparagraph (ii) of this paragraph.

RETURN OF BALLOT (a) The West Babylon School Board of Education shall canvass all military ballots: (1) Received by it before 5:00 PM on election day, May 18, 2021, showing a cancellation mark of the United States postal service or a foreign country’s postal service or showing a dated endorsement of receipt by another agency of the United States government or are signed and dated by the military voter and one (1) witness thereto, with a date which is ascertained to be not later than May 17, 2021 and must be received in the office of the District Clerk of the West Babylon School District not later than 5:00 p.m. on May 18, 2021. SCHOOL ELECTION DISTRICTS The boundaries of the school election districts and the place in each election district for registration and voting shall be as follows: Election District No. 1 Election District No. 1 meets in the Board Room of the Administration Wing of the Senior High School, 10 Farmingdale Road, West Babylon, New York, and the said election district comprises all that portion of West Babylon Union Free School District, Town of Babylon, lying south of Sunrise Highway. Election District No. 2 Election District No. 2 meets in the Santapogue Elementary School, 1130 Herzel Boulevard, West Babylon, New York and the said election district comprises all that portion of the West Babylon Union Free School District, Town of Babylon, lying north of Sunrise Highway. ALL CDC RECOMMENDED GUIDELINES WILL APPLY TO EVERYONE ENTERING THE POLLING PLACES; FACE COVERINGS MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES. Why does NY State have such restrictive guidelines for animal hospitals?

We enjoy having you there too.

The NY State government has put detailed guidelines in place for all businesses, not just veterinarians. For example, medical facilities are required to screen patients before admitting them into the facility.

However right now we are required to follow guidelines issued by New York State that state “Curbside intake and pickup of animals should be used, wherever practical, to minimize the numbers of clients in waiting areas and exam rooms.”* Although that creates a lot of extra work for our staff, we are committed to complying with the NY State safety guidelines during the COVID-19 crisis, and to protect our client’s health and safety. *Exceptions can be made in situations like euthanasia

Are these still necessary? Restrictions are lifted on other things. By July 2020, restrictions like curbside check-in have helped reduce the number of people diagnosed with COVID-19 in New York State down from over 10,000 a day to below 1,000. At the same time we have seen infections rise dramatically in other states who had fewer restrictions.
