JFK’S BLANKET DRIVE HELPS LOCAL PETS IN NEED - The fourth and fifth grade student council members at John F. Kennedy Elementary School in the West Babylon School District recently ran a blanket/towel drive for local pets in need. All the items collected will be donated to the Babylon Animal Shelter. The students collected gently used towels and blankets from March 28 through April 6. On April 6, the student council members gathered in the cafeteria to pack up the items. It’s a musical celebration of 98 years of Hanks (Hank Williams, the first and still the greatest Hank, would have been 98 last September 15), filled with great songs and also with intriguing, thoughtprovoking background information on the classic songs and the great Hanks who made them. “Obviously it was the iconic status of Hank Williams that made so many country singers go by Hank,” said Gayden Wren, the musical-theater veteran who performs as Tennessee Walt. “That’s ironic, because Williams himself wasn’t named Hank or Henry— his birth name was Hiram. The songs in this show span the period from 1948 to the present day, and about half of them are by Williams, both classics like ‘Cold, Cold Heart’ and ‘Jambalaya,’ but also some little-known gems, including one or two that Williams never recorded, that survived only

Donate To Legislator Donnelly’s Pet Food Drive Suffolk County Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Huntington Station) is pleased to again join Long Island Cares and help it “rain food for cats and dogs” by hosting a pet food drive now through the end of May. Legislator Donnelly’s district office is serving as a drop-off location for the 11th Legislative Pet Food Drive where much-needed pet food and supplies will be collected to benefit Baxter’s Pet Pantry of Long Island Cares (www.licares.org). In previous years, constituents of the 17th Legislative District have generously

donated to this annual drive. All donations go directly to Baxter’s Pantry. While 5 and 10 pound bags of dog and cat food, canned food, kitty litter and new pet toys are most needed, all pet nourishments are welcome including food for hamsters, fish, birds and ferrets. Items may be dropped off at Legislator Donnelly’s District Office, located at 130 West Jericho Turnpike in Huntington Station, Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 am and 4 pm until May 31. As per health code requirements, all pet food

must be unopened and in original packaging. On the evening of Saturday, April 2nd, the North Babylon Volunteer Fire Company held its 86th Annual Installation Dinner and awards ceremony. Several area elected officials attended the installation, including Suffolk County Legislature Presiding Officer Kevin McCaffrey, Suffolk County Legislator, Deer Park Fire Department member Tom

Donnelly, Town of Babylon Councilman, North Babylon Volunteer Fire Company Member Terence McSweeney and Town of Babylon Councilman DuWayne Gregory. At the dinner, ExCaptain John Gardner was recognized for a whopping 65 years of service to the Fire Company! As pointed out by Legislator Donnelly, Dwight D. Eisenhower was

President of the United States when John applied to be a firefighter! Ex-Chief John Caroleo was also presented with the Chief Francis Noonan Award for his dedicated service to the Fire Company even following his term as Chief including his roles as a Director of the junior firefighter brigade, drill team, and many other Ex-Chief Caroleo poses with his awards and the elected officials present following committees. his award presentation.

Class Of 2022 Valedictorian And Salutation On March 11, Babylon School District announced the valedictorian and salutatorian for the Class of 2022. In a small ceremony in the school’s library, Babylon Junior-Senior High School Principal Al Cirone recognized the top two students of the class. Joined by their families, valedictorian Kenneth Graham and salutatorian Alexis Lewis were recognized for their exemplary achievements both in and out of the classroom. Throughout his high school career, valedictorian Kenneth

Graham has participated in numerous activities in and out of the classroom. He is a member of the Student Council, National Honor Society, Class Cabinet, DECA and science research. He also plays on the lacrosse and golf teams. Graham is undecided on his choice of college at this time. Salutatorian Alexis Lewis serves at the president of DECA and is a member of the National Honor Society, Business Honor Society and Social Studies

Honor Society. Outside of school, she is a volunteer at Stony Brook Hospital and a volunteer student teacher at Center Stage Dance. She is also the recipient of gold and silver awards from the Girl Scouts. Lewis is still undecided on her college choice. Babylon Union Free School District congratulates both students on their exceptional academic and extracurricular records and wishes them the utmost continued success as they become Babylon alumni.
