Colorful “Seussical” Production The North Babylon High School drama club took community members into the world of American children’s author Dr. Seuss with its musical production of “Seussical.” Based on Dr. Seuss’ children’s stories, the plot mainly focused on the tale of “Horton Hears a
Who.” The drama club kicked off the musical weekend with a performance for senior citizens, where nearly 80 seniors form local towns came to the high school to enjoy an Italian feast before the entertainment.
The weekend continued the colorful production for district and community members, performing songs like “All For You,” “The People Versus Horton the Elephant,” “Finale/ Oh, The Thinks You Can Think,” “Green Eggs and Ham,” and more.

April’s Charity of the Month is: Operation S.P.L.A.S.H.
In honor of Earth Day, an annual event celebrated on April 22nd, which brings awareness about environmental conservation, I chose an eco-friendly non-profit on Long Island that strives to help conserve our island.
Operation S.P.L.A.S.H. is a non-profit volunteer ran organization that is committed to improving the quality of life on Long Island Shores. Their mission is to provide a low cost solution to the growing problem of waterfront pollution through public awareness, community action and your participation. S.P.L.A.S.H. stands for Stop Polluting, Littering and Save Harbors.

New MTA RAIL Act
Long Island Senate Majority delegation announced the ‘MTA RAIL Act’ at the Hicksville LIRR station. The MTA RAIL Act will overhaul the MTA, its operations, and introduce much needed reforms to the way the MTA operates. They announced a five-point platform that includes an independent, forensic audit of the MTA, giving riders a voting voice on the MTA Board. The five-point platform includes: an independent, comprehensive forensic audit of the MTA’s procurements, improvement to long-term capital planning, providing riders a voting voice on the MTA board, overhauling the way the MTA analyzes itself, and ensuring MTA revenues are more likely to go to New York businesses. It will also modernize the MTA and work to bring reform, transparency, and improved service to the millions of MTA riders.
Joanne and Al Grover started Operation S.P.L.A.S.H. in 1990. 2019 is their 29th year of cleaning up our bays, beaches and waterways. Operation S.P.L.A.S.H. has grown from 1 person to several thousand concerned members in 7 chapters dotted all along Long Island’s South Shore. This organization holds Beach, Bay and Waterway Clean-Ups and operates several other projects such as Street Storm Drains, Ocean-Bay Water Exchange, No Wake Zones, Clean Marina Program, Youth Education Programs and more.
tanks brimming with local marine life. This organization has 7 boats that go out in our waterways to patrol and pick-up trash and debris between March and November. All of the boats are operated by volunteer captains and crews that give their time to go out on clean-up trips. Clean-up trips usually last about 3 hours. After their boats are taken out of the water for the season, they bring them back to their Freeport headquarters and immediately start to work on them to get them ready for the next season. They have rescued 2,498,267 pounds of trash from our waters in 28 years! The amazing impact that Long Island Waterways sees from the work of Operation S.P.L.A.S.H. is something each of us should be thankful for! You cannot grow and expand without experiencing love in all its forms. Love can also be as simple as loving yourself, which is essential before you can love anything or anyone else. The old saying, “You cannot give away what you do not have,” has never been truer. No matter who you are, know that you are not deficient in love, because you are love. Our endless capacity for love is the greatest superpower we possess.
How we define it, measure it, express it, give it and receive it is instrumental in defining the parameters by which we live. We’ve all heard people say things like, “I want to be defined by this,” or “I don’t want to be defined by that.” You are not defined by past mistakes, nor are you defined by what you percieve as your greatest worldly achievements. We are all defined by our ability to give and receive love. You may at times question the love in your life, particularly as it pertains to romantic love. If you are in a new relationship that is still blossoming, enjoy the ride and know that in order for love to grow, it needs to mature into a deeper, more comfortable love. If you are in a longterm relationship or a marriage and you are longing for the days of new love, remind yourself that just as you would not regress to being a baby or a child again, your ripened and developed love could not and should not regress to that of brand new love. Many people choose to be cremated nowadays because of personal preference, or because it is less expensive, or for other personal or family reasons. These are all acceptable reasons, and the only reason cremation would not be permissible for a Catholic would be if it were being done as a way of making a public statement about not believing in the resurrection of the body, which is one of the tenets of our faith. Although cremation is permitted, the Church does have the clear preference that, whenever possible, cremation should take place after the Funeral Mass, so that the body of the deceased can be at the Mass. This is important because a human being is a body-soul unity, and therefore the body is an integral part of our personhood. It is the physical body that encounters grace through the physical signs of the sacraments: the body that was washed in Baptism, anointed in Confirmation, and nourished in the Eucharist should be present for the Funeral Mass. Nevertheless, if for some reason cremation does occur before the Funeral Mass, it is permissible to bring the cremated remains into church and have them at the Mass. Notice the term that is used: “cremated remains.” The Church asks that we use this term instead of the term “cremains”, as the Church feels that “cremated remains” is more dignified as a reference to the mortal remains of the Christian body. An aspect of cremation that is often misunderstood is that the final disposition of the cremated remains must be exactly the same as for a body. Cremated remains must be buried in the ground in a cemetery, be entombed in a niche in a mausoleum or some other appropriate structure in a cemetery, or be buried at sea. It is not permissible for Catholics to keep the cremated remains at home, nor is it permissible to sprinkle the ashes (in the ocean or over a field, for example), nor may the ashes be divided up and placed into jewelry (I’m not kidding about that... it’s actually an option in the funeral industry). The Catholic Church teaches that the same reverence and dignity that is given to a dead body must also be given to the cremated remains. Thus, just as one would not keep a body at home, nor divide up a body into pieces, so too with the cremated remains in an urn - there must be a proper final disposition for those remains. Please keep this teaching of the Church in mind if you are considering cremation for yourself or for loved ones, and please feel free to contact one of the priests if you have further questions about it.
