We are your Real Estate Resource Team!

Autism FYI was founded by Dr. James Benjamin and his wife Joyce in 2014 to help advance awareness of the needs surrounding people with Autism. They accomplish this goal of theirs through a safety membership program offered by their organization that is called IRIS, as well as through training that creates community awareness about Autism and allows businesses to become “Autism Friendly Certiﬁed”, which allows them to create a more inclusive community for those with Autism. Please read on for detailed information about their training opportunities available!

Engaging with someone with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) can be difﬁcult for people unless they have at least a baseline knowledge of the disorder. Everyday Interactions with the Autism Spectrum Population is a comprehensive course for anyone and everyone who is working, volunteering, attending school, shopping or just out and about in the community and need to help recognize behaviors associated with ASD and safely engage for the good of all involved.

Autism FYI’s workshops provide professionals, parents and community members the information needed to signiﬁcantly support people on the autism spectrum in school, at work and in the community. They created this training course, which is available in person or online to anyone. In this course, you will learn:

to overcome them • How does Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD effect the behavior of a person with ASD) • How to engage a person effectively and appropriately you suspect has ASD • How to help coach/mentor a person with ASD on your team and engage them more effectively • How to engage a person with ASD who comes into your store, bank, daycare, community program etc. • How people with ASD make wonderful employees and how to hire and integrate them as part of your team • De-escalation techniques and behaviors to avoid • Effective communication techniques to help keep their anxiety level down • Strategies to help them cope with any situation Their trainings also have someone with ASD attending for role playing scenarios and interaction. Upon completion of the course, you will be more conﬁdent in identifying ASD behaviors, understanding effective engagement and communication techniques, and successfully interacting with someone with ASD. Babylon Ushers In Holiday Season With Drive-Thru Experience At Town Hall Santa Claus, Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman and a group of elves helped welcome the 2021 holiday season to Babylon as they recently joined Councilmen Terence McSweeney and DuWayne Gregory and Town Clerk Gerry Compitello at the holiday drive-thru experience at Town Hall. Suffolk County Legislators Jason Richberg and Kevin McCaffrey were also joined in on the festivities. Each year, the Town of Babylon Department of Public Works’ Building and Grounds division decorates the front of Town Hall with an array of holiday lights, including the large tree next to the main entrance. Last year, the Department of Parks and Recreation transformed the annual lighting ceremony into a holiday

drive-thru experience for the community to enjoy. The event was so popular in 2020 that it returned for not one, but three nights in 2021. In addition to the lights, staff from the Department of Parks & Recreation created several different festive holiday scenes including Santa’s Workshop and a Reindeer Barn. Hundreds of community members came out to enjoy night one of the drive-thru experience and drop their letters off in the mailbox to the North Pole. Members of the community also generously donated hundreds of non-perishable items that will benefit the town food pantry. The Drive-Thru Experience will remain at Town Hall throughout the month of December.

Free Transportation Through ‘Ride United’ United Way of Long Island recently launched ‘Ride United’ to help local residents access transportation to receive the COVID-19 vaccine through the rideshare service Lyft. The program is part of United Way Worldwide’s Ride United Vaccine Access Campaign, which addresses unmet transportation needs for individuals and families. Long Island residents participating in ‘Ride United’ receive 2 free Lyft rides (up to $25 each way) to and from vaccination appointments located in Nassau or Suffolk Counties. Riders must download the Lyft app on a supported device and have an active Lyft account. “United Way of Long Island is committed to keeping our communities safe and healthy.
