Spirits were high at the William E. DeLuca Jr. Elementary School’s allpurpose room as students from grades K-5, staff and PTA members participated in an all-day Halloween celebration on Oct. 25. When arriving to the room, students walked through a haunted walkway that led them outside to the pumpkin patch. They eagerly went through and selected their favorite gourds that they would decorate back inside the all-purpose room.

Halloween music filled the atmosphere as students drew, colored and even stuck funny face stickers onto their new pumpkins. They also participated in several fun games, face painting and entered a contest for a chance to win one of the PTA’s more elaborately designed pumpkins. After that, classes went back outside to assemble their scarecrows to send a message about saying no to drugs. This activity honors of Red Ribbon

Week, an annual campaign that raises awareness to prevent the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs and violence. Each class created their scarecrows with a different theme in mind, which included superheroes, Disney characters, ninjas, community helpers and more. After students were done stuffing and decorating their scarecrow, they strapped them to the fence along the building, as a way to ward off drugs.

School Spirit Soars Eagle pride was evident through the schools and the streets as West Babylon School District celebrated its homecoming on Oct. 26. Kicking off with a pep rally at West Babylon Senior High School the day before, the community and schools came together for a parade on the morning of the game that marched down Little East Neck Road to the West Babylon Junior High School led by the school’s marching band. Cheerleaders from eighth grade to seniors piled into the back of pickup trucks, while members of the different classes showed off their float creations. Members

of the swim team, boys and girls cross-country teams and the elementary schools were all represented in the parade. Prior to the start of the game against Hauppauge High School, senior football players and cheerleaders were escorted out to the field with their parents to be recognized. Members of the homecoming court were announced and took to the field for a photo opportunity. It was Eagles verses Eagles in an evenly matched game with a score of 6-6 through the first half. Neither team scored in the third quarter and both teams went into the fourth quarter gearing up for the win. Ultimately,

Halloween Celebration

West Babylon came up a bit short in the end and was defeated 19-13. The halftime performance by the school’s marching band was themed “007” after the James Bond movie soundtrack and showed off the band’s musical skills. Senior members of the band laid their hats on the ground for their final musical selection. With school spirit still high, the Senior High School hosted the homecoming dance later in the evening. The school’s king and queen – Jack Rankin and Emma Weis – were officially crowned at the dance.

Veterans Day begins with Armistice Day Veterans Day is a byproduct of the end of World War I, when Germany and the Allied Nations signed the Treaty of Versailles, formally ceasing fighting and establishing terms of peace. On November 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the signing of the treaty, the first Armistice Day events were held.
