Catholic Cemeteries of Long Island is offering families of victims and first responders to add loved ones’ names to its 9-11 Memorial as part of the 20th year remembrance of the September 11th Terrorist Attacks on America. The Memorial monument, located within Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury, was erected in 2003 and currently displays the names of 414 individuals who were victims of the 9-11 terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center and individuals who worked to rescue and recover the victims at Ground Zero in Lower Manhattan. Family members who lost loved ones are encouraged to submit their names using a special form with required information and attestation. The deceased’s full name and optionally, their profession or role, will be added to the memorial. All forms must be submitted and arrive by email or mail by July 31, 2021. Babylon Rotary Installs New Ofﬁcers

they enjoyed their meals. Community Relations Officer of Turtle Graphx, Heather Rosengarten created a presentation that had everyone feeling like they were part of the show and everyone chipped in together between performances to ensure the Hall was ready for the second show in a matter of minutes. To the team at Turtle Graphx, supporting the community without any need for validation or reward is an artistic and meaningful endeavor. They work hard with the purpose of finding ways to help support those in need and the donation of their time (and the beautiful signs of course) for the Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre Fundraiser was a small price to pay for the creation of what was a beautiful piece of artwork. ABOUT US The A.R.M.S. Club (Academic Recycled Materials and Supplies) only began in 2018, but the A.R.M.S. program began in 2004. Mrs. Sanfratello and Mrs. Bottachiari noticed that many students threw away new or like-new school

supplies on the last day of school. This was devastating to watch as we had students of our own who were in need. We challenged ourselves to work with the custodians in July to clean out 2,500 lockers and keep school supplies that could be recycled and given out in August. That summer we donated 1 0 back packs to the community. In the summer of 2020, the A.R.M.S. program having been approved by the district as the A.R.M.S. Club now, donated 80 stuffed backpacks. We were able to give to every family who requested. As the program has grown, about 80% of our donations are new items, including brand-name back packs that students feel proud to carry to school. The A.R.M.S. Club has 20 established club members who eagerly fundraise to purchase supplies. Lastly, the club collaborates with principals, school nurses, and social workers at the elementary and middle schools to ensure students receive supplies throughout the school year should the need arise. ~Danielle Bottachiari & Christine Sanfratello

On June 21, Babylon Memorial Grade School graduated its sixth grade class during a series of three outdoor “moving up ceremonies” held on the school’s front lawn. In addition to congratulatory speeches by Principal Steven Goldberg, Babylon Superintendent of Schools Linda Rozzi and PTA President Fumi Otomo, the events featured words by sixth graders Anou

Hongthong and Logan Snider, who received the Shannon Saturno award in recognition of their kindness, perseverance and strength. The school’s selected singers also performed a dynamic array of songs, including a moving rendition of “For Good” from “Wicked.” At the conclusion of the ceremonies, the students, who were seated in the audience next to their

family members, were called up individually to receive their “certificates of promotion.” Babylon Union Free School District congratulates the graduates on achieving this milestone and wishes them much success as they advance to Babylon JuniorSenior High School in the fall.

The Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre Fundraiser on June 19th at the Lindenhurst Moose Lodge was an overwhelming success! A $5,000 check was presented to the A.R.M.S. (Academic Recycled Materials & Supplies) Club from the Lodge, who hosted the event to fund the continued effort of the club to provide school supplies to children in the Lindenhurst Union Free School District who are in need. This was made possible by the tremendous effort put forth by the event’s volunteers as well as the generous support of the sponsors, Connoisseur Media LI, Turtle Graphx (who organized the event on the Lodge’s behalf) and all those who attended! Moose volunteers led by Bridgette Ferrandino worked in the kitchen to prepare a delicious 3 course meal! The food was eagerly served by the students of the A.R.M.S. Club led by Teachers, Danielle Bottachiari and Christine Sanfratello. MTA Unveils Tour Package

On Saturday, June 26th, Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey joined the Town of Babylon for a small ceremony dedicating the marina at Gilgo Beach as the “Congressman Pete King Marina.” The marina will serve as a reminder of his work, particularly the substantial efforts he made to secure Hurricane Sandy relief totaling $60.4 billion for Long Island’s ravaged south shore communities. With that same fortitude, Congressman King became a champion of the military, its veterans, first responders, and many more of our most vulnerable populations. The renaming serves as a beacon of gratitude for the many times in which Congressman King would

cross the aisle to best serve his constituents over his nearly three decades in office. On Thursday, July 15th, Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey honored Karen Vassiliou, of Lindenhurst, for her selection as Legislative District 14 Healthcare Hero of the Year! Karen was born and raised in Lindenhurst, and knew from an early age that she wanted to grow up to help people. Prior to COVID-19, Karen served in Good Samaritan Hospital’s cardiac telemetry unit, however she began work with the neuro step down unit in March of 2020. This transition made her one part of an amazing team of hospital staff that worked to convert medical ﬂoors and telemetry ﬂoors to Intensive care units to help accommodate the needs of the community during the pandemic, much of which was done by utilizing team nursing and working extra twelve hours shifts for

Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Huntington Station) would like to thank local residents who came to his office to generously donate pet food, toys and other supplies for pet owners in need, helping to make the 10th Annual Suffolk County Legislative Pet Food Drive a sweeping success. Legislator Donnelly opened his district office in Huntington Station as a drop-off location for the Pet Food Drive to benefit Baxter’s Pet Pantry of Long Island Cares (www. licares.org) from February through May of this year, collecting pet food and supplies for families in

need. LI Cares founded Baxter’s Pet Pantry in 2009 after hearing about families who were unable to afford pet food, veterinary care and/or other services and were sadly faced with no other choice but to put their pets up for adoption. Baxter’s Pet Pantry also provides toys, pet clothes, feeding bowls, cat litter and other pet supplies, all of which were donated through this drive. “Families should never have to decide between feeding themselves and feeding their cherished pets,” said Legislator Donnelly. “I salute everyone at Long Island Cares for all they do,

and was happy to have this opportunity to help them continue to help pet owners. I am so grateful to our generous neighbors for their care and kindness,” said Legislator Donnelly. Legislator Donnelly’s office will continue to accept donations of pet food. While 5 and 10 pound bags of dog and cat food, canned food, kitty litter and new pet toys are most needed, all pet nourishments are welcome including food for hamsters, fish, birds and ferrets. FASNY Offers Lifesaving BBQ And Grilling Tips With COVID precautions motivating more people to cook and grill at home, The FASNY urges all New Yorkers to follow some basic rules to avoid accidents and injuries, and to remember not to hesitate to call for help needed. “The warmer weather will certainly encourage New Yorkers to break out their BBQ’s for outdoor cooking,” said FASNY President John Farrell.  “We want all residents to stay safe as we celebrate the coming summer days and consider basic grill safety tips. National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), from 2014-2018, an average of 19,700 patients per year went to emergency rooms because of injuries involving grills. Gas grills were involved in an average of 10,600 home fires per year, including 3,900 structure fires and 4,900 outdoor fires annually.
