The Charity of the Month for May is: Bikers Against Child Abuse (B.A.C.A.) www.BACAworld.org

Bikers Against Child Abuse, Inc. (B.A.C.A.) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that exists to provide aid, comfort, safety and support for children that have been sexually, physically and emotionally abused. They are dedicated to the principle that ‘one of the basic rights of childhood is to be safe and protected’. When a child’s family or environment has failed them, B.A.C.A. stands ready to help. One of the greatest and most unique assets of B.A.C.A. for children is their “biker family attitude”. Bikers are a tightly knit group. The brotherhood and family values are not just a way to live, but a way of life. One for all and all for one is not just a quote but it is their reality. After children have been introduced into the B.A.C.A. family they are not helpless or powerless anymore. The Long Island B.A.C.A. Chapter had their 100 Mile Ride Event on Saturday, May 18, 2019. Thousands of B.A.C.A. members from around the world participated in this event in various countries and states on the same day! They raised awareness of child abuse and of the services they provide for abused children all over the world.

Patchogue. If you are interested in becoming a B.A.C.A. member you must meet certain requirements. Some requirements are that you have a desire to help abused children, you have regular access to a motorcycle, you are 18 years or older, you can pass an NCIC fingerprint check and you can attend monthly meetings and Chapter events (their meetings are held the second Sunday of every month at the American Legion Hall in Bohemia at 9:00AM unless it’s a holiday). You can also donate to this organization at anytime on their website. If you want to make a donation to the Long Island Chapter directly, please contact the Long Island B.A.C.A. Babylon Junior-Senior High School’s National English Honor Society recently hosted the inaugural “Afternoon of Storytime and Crafts” on April 15, as younger district students were invited to attend the classroom setting for an afternoon filled with literary fun. Due to the efforts of

senior Nick Buonagura, along with English teachers Joan Johanson and Barbara Small, the students were given ample time to engage in a number of crafts and activities, and were even provided with a snack. The crafts included listing words that coordinated with the five letters which make

“Spring” Into Story Time up “April,” and decorating plates with a lovely spring theme. Prior to the student’s dismissal, Nick engaged everyone in a story time session as he read aloud from “Hurray for Spring!” by Patricia Hubbell, bringing smiles to the faces of all attendees.

GOOD DEEDS - Babylon Memorial Grade School Student Council members recently went on a field trip to benefit those in need as part of the “Kids United Against Hunger” initiative. This program provides young people with the opportunity to volunteer at the Harry Chapin Food Bank in Hauppauge to assist and sort food, personal care items, household supplies, pet food and school supplies. After volunteering, the goods are then delivered to Long Island Cares’ network of 590 community-based member agencies. Traditional funerals with visitation and church services have been an integral part of many families grieving process for many generations. But not everyone grieves in the same manner nor does everyone wish to have the same type of funeral. A simple cremation or a simple graveside funeral without a wake is not a reflection of not wanting to spend money for a funeral but rather a reflection of a personal choice. The North Babylon School District is proud to announce that 15 students from the district were recently honored with the Outstanding Elementary and Middle School Physical Education Student Leadership Awards from the Suffolk Zone of the New York State Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. They were selected based on a number of criteria. This includes exhibiting a physically active lifestyle inside and outside of school; demonstrating responsible personal and social behavior, including good sportsmanship, character, civility and citizenship;

demonstrating leadership and positively inﬂuencing his/her peers; contributing to their school physical education and health education programs; and demonstrating and valuing a healthy lifestyle, wellness and lifelong learning. In addition, students were also selected based on their exceptional achievement in health education and/or physical education classes and achieving a high level of physical fitness on approved fitness test.
