The gallery, designed by local students, consists of numerous nauticalthemed murals painted on both sides of the tunnel that runs under Ocean Parkway and connects Cedar Beach to Cedar Beach Marina & Campground. The project, which began last October, was a joint effort initiated by the Parks Department in collaboration with the Babylon Citizens Council on the Arts, Inc. (BACCA) and the Town of Babylon Local Development Corporation (LDC) to bring much needed beautification to the tunnel. Local artist Ron Becker, who serves on the BACCA Advisory Panel, played a key role in facilitating the

Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk www.eoc-suffolk.com The Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk (EOC of Suffolk) is a non-profit organzation that operates a number of programs in both Nassau and Suffolk counties. Based in Patchogue, EOC of Suffolk is dedicated to promoting selfsufficiency among low-income families and individuals. Its programming largely centers on revitalizing communities, broadening the minds of children and assisting families in need.
Managed by program director Delmarie Gotti, Chronic Health Care Coordination supports individuals with such chronic illness as HIV/AIDS, mental health-related conditions, heart disease, diabetes, asthma and hepatitis C. It also serves populations with obesity, substance abuse problems, sickle cell disease and other long-term conditions. This Chronic Health Care Coordination program solely serves people with incomes below the poverty line. Participants, who must be on Medicaid, also often receive various forms of food and housing assistance. Because of their circumstances, and because of the day-to-day life challenges many participants face, it’s often difficult for them to maintain a proper focus on the management of their chronic health needs. Many are jobless and many lack an adequate supply of food. Some are homeless or have lacked proper housing for years.
EOC of Suffolk team members help their clients “navigate the system.” They can assist with the filing of applications for various forms of public assistance. They may help connect participants with food pantries and help arrange assistance through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as food stamps. Additionally, a support team from EOC of Suffolk can help clients find housing and even help arrange for the services of a moving company. If clients are grappling with behavioral or mental health issues, EOC staffers can help them get proper professional assistance. They’ll help participants get past possible stigmas often associated with mental illness. The EOC of Suffolk team can assist by lining up such support as therapeutic assistance, group therapy and medications. While individual care plans vary from client to client, the most common, long-term goal of the Chronic Health Care Coordination program is to help participants manage their personal health care needs, stabilize their lives, become independent and find work. Clients who achieve these goals “graduate” from the program, ready to move on with their lives on a firm foundation. Town of Babylon Cares, the newly founded conglomerate of the Lindenhurst Community Cares Coalition, Copiague Cares, the Deer Park Drug Prevention Coalition, and the Belmont Lake Civic Association, closed the month of April with a three-day Rally for Recreation and Prevention conference. The Rally held Thursday, April 28th, included a guest appearance by former New York Knick Michael Sweetney, who shared his “inspiring journey of loss, hope, and finding the strength to reach out for help when you need it.” The night also included a great array of prizes, music, and fun for all ages. Kindergartners at South Bay Elementary School in the West Babylon School District had a special visit from K9 Officer Mark Sacco, his dog Bosco and two dogs in training. Students learned how K9s work to keep the community safe. The students hid objects from Officer Sacco around the playground and watched how Bosco was able to find
them all. Afterward, Detective Chiquitucto did a presentation to the kindergarten class about fingerprints. He is a latent fingerprint analyst with Suffolk County Police Department’s Identification Section. The class learned about the types of fingerprints people can leave behind. Detective Chiquitucto
showed the class how he is able to make fingerprints more visible by using different types of methods. The class watched him use two different types of fingerprint powder to see the characteristics of the fingerprints so he can use that information to match those fingerprints to people.

On Saturday, May 7th, 2022, the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office Hockey Team took on the New York Cancer Foundation in a charity hockey game at Dix Hills Ice Rink! The charity showdown served as a rematch of the first “Hockey for Hope” game, which was won last August by the Sheriff’s. Executive Director of the New York Cancer Center Tina MacNichollToulon was on hand for the game, which also included Suffolk County Corrections Investigator Meghan Adamo singing a beautiful rendition of our
National Anthem, and New York Cancer Foundation Grant Recipient Laura Stempkowski dropping the puck for the ceremonial face-off! “Sheriff Toulon and his entire Office do a tremendous job in protecting and serving the residents of Suffolk County,” said Presiding Officer Kevin McCaffrey from the bleachers of the ice rink, “and for them to continue to give back beyond their County service through raising funds for charity and encouraging the growth of the sport is truly inspiring.”
When the final horn sounded, the New York Cancer Foundation found itself victorious, keeping hold of a four-to-zero shutout and tying the series between the Foundation and the Sheriff’s at one a piece.
