Here’s two reasons why you may want to consider giving to this organization: What if this was personal? Imagine your son or daughter, your grandchildren, your own brother or sister, or parent experiencing homelessness, addiction, mental health issues, domestic violence or severe depression. Imagine your family torn apart by circumstances out of your control. If you were connected to a crisis situation you would be very comforted to know that an entire community of supporters have made it possible for your loved one to find professional help and healing free of charge. So consider joining that network of support and be a part of the Hope House Ministries’ family. All of the services Hope House Ministries offers are FREE! This includes housing, supportive professional services, counseling, healthcare, insurance, transportation, food, clothing and opportunities for education both for both high school, college or trade school. When explained to those new to their agency, few believe it possible. Many question how they are able to stay open. Hope House Ministries (HHM) is a non-profit organization located in Port Jefferson. They provide compassionate, comprehensive and competent care for the poor, the marginal and the wounded among us. This commitment is woven in the Gospel vision that all life is sacred and every human person is unique and has the right to be respected and protected. They have accomplished much over the 40+ years they have been helping others with minimal financial assistance from federal, state or county agencies. They depend on the generosity of private contributions, fundraising events and corporate donations. Hope House Ministries services people in both Nassau County and Suffolk County, offering services free of charge. Together, their staff and volunteers have created an empowering sense of family and community that are the change agents, helping young people grow in self-discipline, critical thinking, problem solving skills and personal responsibility. There are so many ways that this non-profit can truly help you get your life on a better track. Additionally, there are plenty of ways for people to get involved in helping others through volunteering. LOCAL LEGISLATORS ATTEND POLICE COMMISSIONER RETIREMENT - On Friday, May 7th, Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey joined Legislators Tom Donnelly, Susan Berland, and Sarah Anker at Suffolk County Police Department Headquarters for the walkout ceremony of Police Commissioner Geraldine Hart. Commissioner Hart is a true trailblazer, who served as the ﬁrst female to lead the department and spent the last three years taking charge of matters such as community policing, anti-corruption, police reform, MS-13, and even the Gilgo serial killings case. The Town Board cites the need to hear different perspectives from community stakeholders before deciding whether or not to opt out of the sale of the substance in the Town of Babylon. While the adult use of marijuana is currently legal across New York

State, local municipalities will have the ability to block the sale of the substance within their borders. The Town Board must make its decision before the end of the year. If the town does decide to opt out at the end of 2021, it can opt in the following year. However, if the town opts in at the end of 2021,

they can no longer opt out at any time. “It was only a matter of time until we were forced with facing the legalization of marijuana in New York,” said Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer. “As we work toward a decision of whether or not to allow the sale of recreational marijuana

within our borders, we feel its important to hear from our residents as there are strong, valid arguments on both sides of the debate,” he added. Supervisor Schaffer, who also acts as Chairman of the Suffolk County Supervisors Association, regularly discusses options with

We mourn and grieve. We get depressed and angry. If we lose sight of the light at the end of the tunnel, we become overwhelmed by what would have been instead of coping and dealing with what is. Life is not easy and it is definitely not always fair. Our goal in dealing with all the trouble in life is to try to make the world around us the world it should be. By that I mean , we help ourselves by helping others. We feel better when we make others feel better. We can’t change the past nor can we change the present but we can strive to change the future. We can all strive to make the world a better place, not only for ourselves but for our children and our children’s children.

The NY State government has put detailed guidelines in place for all businesses, not just veterinarians. For example, medical facilities are required to screen patients before admitting them into the facility.

However right now we are required to follow guidelines issued by New York State that state “Curbside intake and pickup of animals should be used, wherever practical, to minimize the numbers of clients in waiting areas and exam rooms.”* Although that creates a lot of extra work for our staff, we are committed to complying with the NY State safety guidelines during the COVID-19 crisis, and to protect our client’s health and safety. *Exceptions can be made in situations like euthanasia
