TROOP 104 ARROW OF LIGHT - On Sunday, April 25th, 20212 Cub Scout troop 104 held their Arrow of light ceremony whereas those scouts crossed the bridge and became members of troop 2014. NOTICE OF ANNUAL MEETING MAY 18, 2021 WEST BABYLON UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT TOWN OF BABYLON SUFFOLK COUNTY, NEW YORK NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that voting on the school district budget for the year 2021/2022 and election of Members of the Board of Education will take place on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 for the transaction of business as authorized by the Education Law by Ballot on Voting Machines or by Paper Ballot, if voting machines are not available or as otherwise provided by Law or Regulation. All times set forth herein are prevailing time. Form of proposition will be as follows: PROPOSITION NO. 1 Shall the following Proposition be adopted? Shall the school District budget proposed by the Board of Education of the West Babylon Union Free School District for the Fiscal year 2021-2022 requiring the appropriation of the necessary funds to meet the estimated expenditures of the District in accordance with Section 1716 of the Education Law and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the District be adopted. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that pursuant to Chapter 258 of the Laws of 2008, Section 495 was added to the Real Property Tax Law, and requires the School District to attach to its proposed budget an exemption report. Said exemption report, which will also become part of the final budget, will show how much of the total assessed value on the final assessment roll used in the budgetary process is exempt from taxation; list every type of exemption granted, identified by statutory authority, and show: (a) the cumulative impact of each type of exemption expressed either as a dollar amount of assessed value or as a percentage of the total assessed value on the roll: (b) the cumulative amount expected to be received from recipients of each type of exemption as payments in lieu of taxes or other payments for municipal services; and (c) the cumulative impact of all exemptions granted. The exemption report shall be posted on any bulletin board maintained by the District for public notices and any website maintained by the District. (6) Irrespective of the preferred method of transmission designed by a military voter, a military voter’s original military ballot application and military ballot must be returned by mail or email to the appropriate District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. of the date of the election. RETURN OF BALLOT (a) The West Babylon School Board of Education shall canvass all military ballots: (1) Received by it before 5:00 PM on election day, May 18, 2021, showing a cancellation mark of the United States postal service or a foreign country’s postal service or showing a dated endorsement of receipt by another agency of the United States government or are signed and dated by the military voter and one (1) witness thereto, with a date which is ascertained to be not later than May 17, 2021 and must be received in the office of the District Clerk of the West Babylon School District not later than 5:00 p.m. on May 18, 2021. SCHOOL ELECTION DISTRICTS The boundaries of the school election districts and the place in each election district for registration and voting shall be as follows: Election District No. 1 Election District No. 1 meets in the Board Room of the Administration Wing of the Senior High School, 10 Farmingdale Road, West Babylon, New York, and the said election district comprises all that portion of West Babylon Union Free School District, Town of Babylon, lying south of Sunrise Highway. Election District No. 2 Election District No. 2 meets in the Santapogue Elementary School, 1130 Herzel Boulevard, West Babylon, New York and the said election district comprises all that portion of the West Babylon Union Free School District, Town of Babylon, lying north of Sunrise Highway. ALL CDC RECOMMENDED GUIDELINES WILL APPLY TO EVERYONE ENTERING THE POLLING PLACES; FACE COVERINGS MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES. BABYLON CENTRAL FIRE ALARM HONORS LONG TIME DISPATCHER - On the afternoon of Saturday, April 3rd, Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey joined Babylon Central Fire Alarm and Rescue Alarm Corporation and other local officials to recognize the achievements of long time Dispatcher Ronnie Kestenbaum. At 3:00pm that afternoon, Ronnie walked out of the Babylon Central office after his regular Saturday tour for the final time, marking the end of his more than 50 years of service to the Town of Babylon, its first responders, and its residents. As one of Babylon Central’s most senior staff members, Ronnie became known as a great teacher and role model for his fellow dispatchers, and is known throughout the Town for his calm demeanor- most notably in disasters such as Hurricane Sandy, several blackouts, and other massive firefighting operations. And as if 50 years behind the console wasn’t enough, Ronnie will continue to serve others with the North Lindenhurst Fire Department, where he volunteers. Congratulations Ronnie on your retirement, and thank you for all you’ve done to keep our citizens and first responders safe and informed! Work To Protect Montauk Point Lighthouse From Slipping Into Ocean Will Soon Begin LI’s Montauk Point Lighthouse Was New York’s FIRST Lighthouse & Is On National Historic Landmark Listing & Adjacent To Prized State Park & Museum First Constructed In 1796, The Site Has Become Dangerous For Visitors To The East End & Could Have Easily Been Lost To The Atlantic Ocean Without Fed Funds Citing mere feet to go before potentially being lost to the Atlantic Ocean, U.S. Senator Charles Schumer

recently announced, after a call with the Army Corps of Engineers, that work to protect the Montauk Point Lighthouse will officially begin in May. Schumer, said starting in May is critical to protecting the historic structure. The lighthouse, a 1796 project propelled by George Washington, once stood hundreds of feet from the Atlantic coast, but over time, it has inched closer and closer to the water’s edge, where it now stands in peril. “We have come a long way since 1796,” said

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer. “However, so has the historic Montauk Point Lighthouse, slipping ever closer to the Atlantic’s waters, but with fed funds en route and construction to start, we will restore the shoreline protections needed to keep this beacon of Long Island pride and tourism shining for years to come.” As reported by Newsday, H&L Contracting of Bay Shore was awarded the contract for the project. Francis discovered hundreds of youth who were homeless, experiencing mental health issues and living with addictions and it wasn’t long before he realized that neither government nor faith communities were doing enough to meet the crisis of homelessness. He formed Hope House Ministries and it has grown into an amazing organization that has provided for the needs of over 500,000 individuals. Hope House Ministries offers

Work To Protect Montauk Point Lighthouse From Slipping Into Ocean Begins of Environmental Conservation has committed $15.4M to the project and the Montauk Historical Society will continue to maintain the site once the project is finished. According to the Society, more than 100,000 visitors visit the lighthouse each year, even amid the pandemic. According to the

Why does NY State have such restrictive guidelines for animal hospitals?

The NY State government has put detailed guidelines in place for all businesses, not just veterinarians. For example, medical facilities are required to screen patients before admitting them into the facility.

It’s much easier to us to talk to you directly about your pet’s health. However right now we are required to follow guidelines issued by New York State that state “Curbside intake and pickup of animals should be used, wherever practical, to minimize the numbers of clients in waiting areas and exam rooms.”* Although that creates a lot of extra work for our staff, we are committed to complying with the NY State safety guidelines during the COVID-19 crisis, and to protect our client’s health and safety. *Exceptions can be made in situations like euthanasia

Are these still necessary? Restrictions are lifted on other things. By July 2020, restrictions like curbside check-in have helped reduce the number of people diagnosed with COVID-19 in New York State down from over 10,000 a day to below 1,000. At the same time we have seen infections rise dramatically in other states who had fewer restrictions.

Ancient Order of Hibernians in Babylon Install Boy Officers St. Patrick’s Division 2 of Suffolk County, NY installation of officers took place on Sunday, April 18 th at their Hibernian Hall in Babylon. The installation was initially set for this past January but due to COVID-19 precautions the installation was postponed to a safer date. The installation was attended by St. Patrick’s Division 2 President, Jim Killen and Vice
