Telehealth is a new resource available through Metro Physical & Aquatic Therapy for anyone that needs therapy and wishes to receive the treatment in the comfort and safety of their own home. Former NBA Player Asks Students ‘Why?’ of substance abuse. Members of the Babylon community listened in silence as Herren detailed his past with intense honesty and solemnness. Herren focused his talks on “the first day, not just the worst day.” In other words, he not only highlighted the “rock bottom” that is often discussed in similar conversations, but also examined the ways in which drug abuse begins. He encouraged students to ponder “the why”: that is, “why” young people feel compelled to alter themselves with drugs in the first place. Herren then responded to audience questions

and offered his nonprofit “Herren Project” as a resource to anyone struggling with issues related to substance abuse. All in attendance for both events were deeply moved by Herren’s powerful and emotional words, and a palpable sense of reflection filled the auditorium. The Babylon Union Free School District truly appreciates and thanks Dennis Murphy, district director of guidance services, for bringing Herren to the Babylon community and for coordinating the day and evening events with other district leaders.

School days continued, uninterrupted, right down to the acknowledgement of students celebrating birthdays. The tight communities around our schools worked together to maintain a sense of normalcy for the students.

As the schools and students enter week 2, with the technical and educational challenges under control, students are completing and sharing projects online, they are seeing and interacting with their classmates in online forums. Students are attending Liturgies and prayer services online, and their schools have even begun to bring their art and music classes to them via Skype, Zoom and Google. The things that have always made Catholic school special all remain intact – and the warmth, love and support of these beautiful faith communities has never been more important. Babylon Junior-Senior High School welcomed Chris Herren, former NBA player turned motivational speaker, for two presentations at the school. One was offered during school hours for ninth-12th grade students, and the other was hosted during the evening so families and community members could join. Herren lost his basketball career and almost his family to his struggle with drug addiction before achieving sobriety in 2008. Since then, he has spoken to more than 1 million people around the world in hopes of awakening them to the grave consequences

An aspect of cremation that is often misunderstood is that the final disposition of the cremated remains must be exactly the same as for a body. Cremated remains must be buried in the ground in a cemetery, be entombed in a niche in a mausoleum or some other appropriate structure in a cemetery, or be buried at sea. It is not permissible for Catholics to keep the cremated remains at home, nor is it permissible to sprinkle the ashes (in the ocean or over a field, for example), nor may the ashes be divided up and placed into jewelry (Iâ€™m not kidding about that... itâ€™s actually an option in the funeral industry). The Catholic Church teaches that the same reverence and dignity that is given to a dead body must also be given to the cremated remains. Although cremation is permitted, the Church does have the clear preference that, whenever possible, cremation should take place after the Funeral Mass, so that the body of the deceased can be at the Mass. This is important because a human being is a body-soul unity, and therefore the body is an integral part of our personhood. It is the physical body that encounters grace through the physical signs of the sacraments: the body that was washed in Baptism, anointed in Confirmation, and nourished in the Eucharist should be present for the Funeral Mass. Nevertheless, if for some reason cremation does occur before the Funeral Mass, it is permissible to bring the cremated remains into church and have them at the Mass. Notice the term that is used: â€œcremated remains.â€? The Church asks that we use this term instead of the term â€œcremainsâ€?, as the Church feels that â€œcremated remainsâ€? is more dignified as a reference to the mortal remains of the Christian body.
