Girls on the Run is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. They run a physical activity-based positive youth development program that is designed to enhance girls’ social, psychological and physical skills and behaviors to help them successfully navigate life experiences.
They serve girls in grades 3-5 and inspire them to be joyful, healthy and confident by using a fun, interactive curriculum, which creatively integrates running! Meeting twice a week in small teams for a 10-week season, a volunteer coach will teach girls life skills through engaging lessons and fun movement activities. At each season’s conclusion, all girls from teams across Long Island will meet up for a celebratory 5K running event. This organization also runs a program called Heart & Sole. This is their middle school program that meets the unique needs of girls in 6th-8th grade. Heart & Sole takes girls as a whole into consideration body, brain, heart, spirit and social connection - in a positive and structured space, where participants can learn about themselves, explore new ideas, cultivate empathy and stregthen connections. Running is incorporated into each lesson to encourage physical wellness. These girls also prepare for a celebratory 5K event at the end of the program. The upcoming spring season

North Babylon High School students in Mrs. Nicole Raymond’s advanced film class entered into the 72 Hour Film Competition at Five Towns College in November 2019. The team was assigned to the horror genre and had to write the script, complete filming and edits within 72 hours. After assigning jobs and brainstorming production strategies,
students wrote the script titled “ANYTHING” and gathered costumes, props, and volunteer extras for filming. During the screening and judging ceremonies, the group was nominated for six of the 12 awards, including Best Use of Genre, Best Use of Prop, Best Use of Character, Best Acting, Best Editing and Best Overall. The short film won Best Use of Genre
and Sophia Bonventre won for Best Acting. They will be attending the Hofstra Film Festival on Feb. 29 and the St. John the Baptist Film Festival on April 29. The district congratulates all participating students on this impressive accomplishment and wishes them luck for the upcoming festivals.
Bacca’s Art & Music Studio Socials Bring Creative Communities Together BACCA’s Studio Socials welcome artists of all experience levels and mediums to an evening of artistic exchange, selfguided artmaking, live music, and networking. Artists are asked to bring their own supplies, and they may choose to work independently or collaboratively. There will be easels and tables available. Music lovers are also invited. They can enjoy the performances and soak up the creative atmosphere while watching the magic of artistic expression come to life. A light snack will be served. The next Social will be Tuesday, March 31,
featuring Tim McKenna playing acoustic folk guitar. The Art & Music Studio Socials will take place monthly on Tuesday evenings from 6:00PM to 9:00PM at the BACCA Arts Center, located at 149 N Wellwood Ave., in Lindenhurst. Orchestra Students To Perform With The Knights The North Babylon School District is proud to announce that three North Babylon High School Orchestra students have been invited to participate in the 2020 Knights/Tilles Center String Orchestra Convocation. Thomas Bruggemann, Jake Cosentino and Esther DuClair will take the stage at the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts on March 1.
This special event is designed for 30 advanced students in 11 and 12 grade to listen, rehearse and perform side-by-side with The Knights, one of the greatest chamber orchestras. Esther, Jake and Thomas will be part of this group, under the direction of Co-Artistic Directors Eric Jacobsen and his brother Colin Jacobsen. The students will present a concert
that includes the closing movement of Tchaikovsky’s “Serenade for Strings and Vivaldi’s Spring.” The Knights will also perform the Mendelssohn Octet Finale and Colin Jacobsen’s “Ascending Bird.” The district congratulates these students and their nominating teacher, Ms. Nicole Verderosa, for this fantastic achievement.
