It’s been reported that the challenge raised close to $99,000 in donations on Long Island and $12.7 million across the country. Iconic actress Betty White passed away just weeks before her milestone 100th birthday, and as a result people on social media wanted to celebrate her and her love of helping animals in need. The Betty White Challenge was created to celebrate her birthday by asking people to donate to an animal shelter of their choice on January 19th. “Thanks to the Betty White Challenge, the Babylon Animal Shelter took in so many donations in such a short period of time, we were amazed and

FCA services utilize a “family-driven” process to create an individualized plan of service for each child and provides access to appropriate services to improve health outcomes and prevent hospitalizations.

WEST BABYLON’S ROBOTICS TEAM CAPTURES THIRD PLACE - During the week of Jan. 10-14, West Babylon Senior High School’s Team Pandemonium participated in their first remote/virtual FIRST Robotics New York FIRST Tech Challenge Small Business Partnerships of Long Island. West Babylon competed against teams from Jericho, Locust Valley, East Setauket, Syosset, Dix Hills, Huntington Station, Mineola and Seaford with some of these schools fielding more than one team and as many as four teams. West Babylon’s Team Pandemonium took third place. What would Valentine’s Day be without images of a golden-tressed boy armed with bow and arrows? The arrows represent feelings of love and desire, and they are aimed and cast at various individuals, causing them to fall deeply in love — or fall out of it. In Roman mythology, the boy is known as Cupid and is the son of Venus, the goddess of love. Portrayed as a cherubic and mischievous toddler, this magical boy was purported to be the matchmaker of gods and mortals alike. For students of Greek mythology, Cupid represents Eros, the Greek word for “desire.” He was the son of Aphrodite, Venus’ Hellenistic counterpart, and would play with the hearts of mortals and gods, sometimes leaving

mayhem in his wake. In Greek mythology, Eros was more teenager than bubbly baby, and capitalized on his status as a heartthrob rather than the cherubic status of Roman mythology, according to Richard Martin, a Stanford University professor. While Cupid may have been an adorable imp, some historians say Eros had a darker side, going so far as to describe him as calculating and sinister — forcing the wrong people into lovelorn matches. According to Museum Hack, while Cupid could make people fall in and out of love, he also was once in love himself. In this telling, Cupid is a young man when Venus learns that a mortal girl is born with such great beauty that others start to forget to worship Venus, adoring this girl

instead. Upset about the misdirected adoration toward this mortal, Venus asks Cupid to have the girl, Psyche, fall in love with a monster. Cupid agrees, but once he sees Psyche he “accidentally” hits himself with one of his own golden arrows and falls in love with Psyche. The resulting match does not prove easy, and through a series of unfortunate events, Psyche must prove her love to Cupid and accomplish various tasks to win back his heart. Eventually, Psyche does and achieves goddess status. Cupid has been portrayed both as a young man and child through Renaissance art and beyond. When Valentine’s Day became popular in the 18th and 19th centuries, Cupid was linked to Valentine’s

Day celebrations due to his matchmaking abilities. His popularity only continued in the early 20th century,

when Hallmark began to manufacture Valentine’s Day cards featuring Cupid. Cupid helped push

people together in ancient mythology, and he can even be the catalyst for modern day matchmaking as well.

College juniors, seniors, or graduate students earning a degree in areas of biological or

Ethical Friends of Children, a program helping needy families on Long Island, seeks clothing (tops, bottoms, pjs, sweaters and socks) in certain sizes. Specific sizes are: GIRLS: 3-4, 4-5 and 9-10 and BOYS: 7-8 and 9-10. Ethical Friends of Children is an outreach program of the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island., established in 1985. “We assist more than 2,500 children and their families each year by providing them clothing for children from newborn to size 12 as well as infant furniture at no cost,” says Pat Spencer of Port Washington. The “store” – staffed entirely by volunteers – lets families pick out the things they need, at no cost to them. Both Webster and Sterling clients will continue to bank as they normally do at their existing banking centers and through Webster’s and Sterling’s websites and mobile applications. At the effective time of the merger on January 31, 2022, each share of Sterling common stock was converted into the right to receive 0.4630 of a share of Webster common stock, with Sterling shareholders receiving cash in lieu of fractional shares.

In addition, each share of 6.50% Non-Cumulative Perpetual Preferred Stock, Series A, of Sterling (“Sterling series A preferred stock”) was converted into the right to receive a share of 6.50% Series G Non-Cumulative Perpetual Preferred Stock of Webster (“Webster series G preferred stock”) at the effective time of the merger.
