2021 New York Boat Show Canceled The 2021 Progressive Insurance New York Boat Show, scheduled to take place January 27-31, is canceled. The Charity of the Month for January is

Angels of Long Island www.angelsoﬂongisland.com

Angels of Long Island is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization ran by Debbie and Brittany, a mother and daughter duo. They turned a small Facebook group into a fast growing non-profit organization that helps countless Long Islanders in need. Their non-profit continued to grow so much so that Debbie and Brittany decided to open up a storefront location in Patchogue called Angels of Long Island. Their slogan Neighbors helping neighbors is a great reflection of what this thriving thrift store/boutique/donation center does. “We work so hard to keep our store clean and beautiful so that all of our customers who walk through our doors feels a sense of dignity and respect shopping at our store,” says Debbie. “We are not like your average thrift store! We carry designer brands and offer a unique experience.” The mission of this non-profit is to assist and advocate for people in our Long Island community who are in need of assistance. Their goal is to empower people to overcome poverty and live prosperous lives. They truly provide a wide range of services and goods to people in crisis, however anyone can come shop at their Patchogue store, which has recently expanded, located at 350-23 East Main Street. The store is proud to take many types of donations. They now accept bottle and can donations every Monday-Saturday from 9AM-3PM, where you can simply pull up curbside, pop your trunk and a team member will take the donations for you. All bottles and cans must be marked New York state deposit and no broken glass bottles are able to be accepted. Please remember to separate glass items from plastic items before you donate them. Pickups at your residence are available for large quantities of recyclables. Additionally, they accept other donations, such as new or gently used clothing, housewares, home decor and

furniture. All proceeds from this store go directly to help Long Island residents in need. If you have some free time on your hands and are comfortable volunteering at the store, please contact Debbie at 631.205.3458. During this pandemic, Angels of Long Island is short staffed and looking for help. Their store is cleaned every morning and masks are required there. Please only consider volunteering if you are not showing any covid symptoms. Everyone’s safety is their first priority. Lastly, every Saturday until further notice, Angels of Long Island will team up with Carroll’s Kitchen, another Long Island based non-profit. Together they will be handing out gourmet to-go meals for free to anyone who stops by the Angels’ Patchogue store when the meals are available (please visit the Angels of Long Island Facebook page for meal arrival updates). Anyone is welcome to come and let a team member know how many dinners you need. The meals are distributed via curbside pickup. “So many people are out of work,” says Debbie. “If we can help their budget a ltitle by providing a meal for their family, it thrills me!” I personally would like to thank both nonprofit organizations for making a difference on our island, touching the hearts of those in need and having a smile on your faces while doing so! “Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.” Proverbs 19:17

The Kiwanis Club of Lindenhurst officially launched it’s 2021 Hometown Heroes Banner Program in partnership with the Town of Babylon offering residents the opportunity to honor service men and women with a commemorative banner to be displayed in the hamlets of North Babylon, West Babylon, Deer Park, Wheatley Heights, North Amityville, Wyandanch and Copiague. First introduced in the Village of Lindenhurst, the program has now expanded throughout Babylon where banners will be displayed on decorative lamp posts from Memorial Day to Veterans Day. “We are extremely grateful to Babylon Supervisor Rich Shaffer and Beautification Director Viscel Moore for working with us to bring the Hometown Heroes Banner Program to all residents of the Town of Babylon”, said Kiwanis Committee Chair Ralph Somma. “Special thanks to “Navy Moms” Carolyn Mormino and Jeanine Walther for their perseverance in getting the Hometown Heroes program to the Town,” he added. Banners cost $200 and display a picture of the service member along with his or her name, branch and years of service. Participants can choose among one of three veterans’ organizations where a portion of the proceeds will be donated. In addition to the banner, participants will receive a 4x6 print suitable for framing, a digital version for sharing on social media and the opportunity to share their Hometown Heroes’ story to the Lindenhurst Kiwanis website. New York Blood Center And Area Hospitals Launch Initiative To Increase Blood Donations Area hospitals and academic medical centers including NYC Health + Hospitals, Northwell Health, NewYorkPresbyterian, Weill Cornell Medicine, Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Mount Sinai Health System, Montefiore Health System and Catholic Health Services of Long Island are joining forces with New

York Blood Center (NYBC) to increase blood donations. Temporary blood shortages are not uncommon during summer and winter holidays each year, but the COVID-19 pandemic has created a chronic shortage across the country that shows no sign of improving. This reality is particularly dangerous given the looming uncertainty

surrounding the pandemic’s trajectory over the course of this winter. New York’s healthcare system requires 1,500 donations each day to treat patients ranging from trauma victims to newborn babies and their mothers to cancer patients. Prior to the pandemic, donors could stop by community blood drives at convenient locations,

but nearly all high schools, colleges, offices and other community groups have had to cancel their blood drives due to COVID-19. Blood donors can now make appointments to visit donor centers, but donations are at just 65% of pre-pandemic levels - well below what is needed by hospitals and patients in our area. “The entire foundation

of the way people donate blood has changed. The convenience factor of walking down the hallway while at work, getting out of class or donating after religious services is gone. Instead, we have to rely on people taking the extra step of proactively seeking out a place to donate. So far, that isn’t happening at the level we need,” said Andrea H.

This is an incredibly challenging time for our communities.”

These kittens are shy when meeting strangers, so they are often overlooked by potential adopters. With a little time and patience put in to get to know them they show just how sweet, playful and loving they can all be. Shy kittens need a little extra work to get them to come out of their shells, but they are always worth the effort once you earn their trust.

All of the felines at the Shelter are current on vaccines and have received a full workup (blood work, Feline HIV & Leukemia tested, physical exam etc.) by a board certified Veterinarian.

The government has lifted restrictions where it is essential to get other parts of the economy restarted, but we don’t expect to see change for a while on safety measures like curbside check-in that have been seen to be effective.
