FLAMINGO FLOCKING EVENT -The Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition is honored to be the recipient of a $5,000 donation from the West Babylon Varsity Cheerleaders. The West Babylon Varsity Cheerleaders held a 5-week Flamingo Flocking event to benefit the Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition, in memory of Shannon Saturno, a 32 year old teacher from West Babylon who lost her life to Triple Negative Breast Cancer in 2016. 24 cheerleaders worked 7 days a week to move and set up the Flamingo Flocks, the team even had t-shirts made up for the event! This very successful fundraiser was supported by residents of the West Babylon community. The Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition provides support and services to residents of the Township of Babylon who are undergoing active treatment for breast or gynecological cancer. Students Design LEGO Self-Portraits North Babylon fifth graders at Parliament Place recently discussed what it would be like to work as a designer at The LEGO Group. Students were challenged to be as creative as possible while still adhering to the LEGO figurine template.

Using colored pencils, crayons and markers, they transformed LEGO silhouettes into selfportraits by adding unique features, including hair, personalized outfits and accessories. Students also added backgrounds to their drawings to enhance their

self-portraits and bring them to life. Art teacher Christina Kampson was thoroughly impressed by the students’ creativity and imagination. “Great work by all our fifth graders,” she said.

Lisa’s mother was a special education teacher and her father worked for a book publishing company. She was greatly influenced by both of their professions. She grew up knowing she loved horses, but really wanted to become a teacher and work with children in need. Her father would often send her books while she was away at college, and one day she received a book titled Palomino, by Danielle Steel. As she read through the pages, she became inspired by what was written: a ranch that was formed to help people through equine therapy. From that point on, she was certain that was exactly what she wanted to do with her life. Through persistence, hard work and a passion to serve others, Lisa Gatti opened Pal-O-Mine Equestrian in 1995 as a 501C(3) organization.

Pal-O-Mine is located at 829 Old Nichols Road in Islandia. They grew from having two programs, eight horses and 80 students per week to 11 programs, 25 horses and 400 students per week, and they continue to grow today! This organization sits on eight acres, with a 20-stall barn, handicapped accessible bathrooms, a new 100’ x 120’ indoor arena with state-of-theart footing and a rider hoisting system, and three outdoor riding arenas. They help an unbelievable amount of people and their work is truly heartwarming. Individuals of all ages are welcome to take part in the programs they offer. They operate with five full-time employees, 35 independent contractors and 80 volunteers a week. Their riding instructors have experience with the following diagnoses: Autism Spectrum Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Sensory Processing Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Neurological Disorders, Cerebral Palsy, Traumatic Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Down Syndrome,

Additionally, this organization is proud to now offer a Frontline Heroes Wellness Program. This program is complimentary for medical professionals and first responders, and can be virtual or in person. The well-known benefits of being in nature include reduced stress while providing a sense of calm, connection and solace. Sessions for this program may include reiki, mindfulness and horsemanship.
