COVID-19 outbreak. That’s an important consideration for holiday shoppers who want the gifts they purchase for loved ones to arrive on time this holiday season. In anticipation of longer delivery times, which may be even longer
during the notoriously busy holiday season than they were at the outset of the pandemic, shoppers may want to begin their shopping early. Doing so not only accounts for longer shipping times, but also increases the chances shoppers
will find what they’re looking for during a time when many retailers’ supply chains have been interrupted. Shoppers concerned by online shopping this holiday season due to the likelihood of catching COVID-19 by contacting cardboard

After 9/11, she had the privilege to participate in the World Trade Center Medical Monitoring Program where she evaluated and treated those who heroically worked at the World Trade Center site. health in our community is so rewarding.” Dr. DaCosta is a Long Island native who attended Stony Brook University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Three Village School Board Celebrates Students’ Philanthropic Efforts During its September meeting, the Three Village Central School District Board of Education and invited guests helped to honor several students who have worked tirelessly to make a difference in the lives of those both locally and across the globe. P.J. Gelinas Junior High School seventh grader Lily Rosengard was honored by the district and the New York State School Boards Association for being a “Champion of Change” based on her work to aid those affected by the Australian wildfires. During the
meeting, NYSSBA Area 12 Director Catherine Romano spoke about the award and noted that is it not an honor that one can apply for but rather one bestowed upon to a select few individuals who capture the attention of the association. Early in 2020 Lily, then Setauket Elementary School sixth grader, rallied her peers and led an initiative to cut, sew and donate joey pockets for the orphaned kangaroos in Australia. members and the support of the Setauket Student Council. Together, the group donated hundreds of joey pockets and raised countless monies to support the wildlife foundation. Ward Melville High School students Katrin Donetski, Srinija Gumudavelli, Tasnim Loqman, Sara Murphy and Prisha Singhal were also honored by the district for their philanthropic efforts this summer. The team, which called themselves the TeleTutors, volunteered to tutor district students across all grades in various subjects. In lieu of accepting payment for their services, the team vowed to pass along any monies donated to the district’s food pantry. The students presented the sum of their earnings, $735, to the district during the board meeting.

Left-handed, lefty, southpaw - these are all terms used to describe people who favor their left hands for writing, throwing a ball and myriad other activities. It is estimated that between 10 and 12 percent of all people are left-handed. Although that makes southpaws an undeniable minority, the number of left-handed people is creeping up. Sports Proclivity Being left-handed may confer an advantage for athletes. Wayne Gretzky, Sandy Koufax and Martina
Navratilova are just a few of the many accomplished left-handed sports legends. Sports scientist Florian Loffing with the Institute of Sport Science, University of Oldenburg in Germany found that in sports where there is a short time constraint, lefties appeared to excel. That could be why he found 26 percent of the top male players in table tennis are lefties. And sports like baseball and cricket are dominated by left-handed players. Health Risks And Benefits According to a 2010 study
published in the journal Pediatrics, researchers found those who were left-handed had an increased risk for dyslexia, ADHD and certain mood disorders. It could be tied to the hemispheres of the brain and how 30 percent of left-handed people are partial to the right hemisphere or have no dominant hemisphere for language functioning. Conversely, lefties can bounce back from stroke or other brainrelated injuries more readily than righties, according to data
published in 2015 in Scientific Reports. A study published in Laterality found that left-handed people are less likely to suffer arthritis and ulcers. More Creative Lefties are more likely to be artistic or innovative. Research published in the American Journal of Psychology found there is some evidence that left-handed people are better at divergent thinking, a method of idea generation that explores many possible solutions. This year has been anything but ordinary. The outbreak of the COVID-19 virus has proved extremely challenging especially for the hospitality industry.
