In an effort to address the infrastructural and safety needs of its school facilities, the Port Jefferson School District Board of Education is conducting ongoing discussions about a possible capital improvement bond referendum in the near future. All community members are encouraged to take
part in these conversations by attending a public information meeting on Monday, October 2nd, at 7 p.m., in the large group room at Edna Louise Spear Elementary School and by taking the online community survey, which is posted to the district’s website, www. portjeffschools.org. Survey responses will be collected

SELF-DEFENSE TRAINING - On Thursday, September 14th, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker hosted a Women’s Self-Defense training class in conjunction with the Suffolk County Police Department and Long Island Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Festive Celebration Eagle pride was in the air as students, community residents and administrators took part in Rocky Point School District’s homecoming festivities on September 16th. The game against Harborfields High School was only one of
the highlights of the lively day. The annual parade started at Frank J. Carasiti Elementary School and winded along the road through the high school parking lot. It brought out hundreds of spectators who enjoyed the celebrated marching band, food stands, spirited
games and award-winning cheerleading team before the players took the field. The Eagles varsity football team performed well on the field, but despite their best efforts, lost to the Harborfield’s Tornadoes, 20-13.

LENDING SUPPORT - On September 17th, Councilwoman Jane Bonner stopped by the Rocky Point Ale House Bike Social to thank the Axemen MC NY-3 for their efforts to raise money for special needs children of New York City Fire Department (FDNY) members. The event was held in support of the Kids Connect Program operated by the FDNY Counseling Service Unit. The bikers started the day at the Town of Hempstead West Marina in Point Lookout and rode 65 miles to Rocky Point.

The Southold Historical Society is happy to announce the winner of the Horton Point Lighthouse Anniversary Photo Contest. The contest received over 100 entries during July and August of 2017. A selected jury reviewed all entries and awarded the winner. The winning photograph was submitted by Sean P.

Ladies Night Out In commemoration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, participating shops and restaurants in Stony Brook Village will be part of a festive Ladies Night Out, Thursday, October 12th from 6 to 9 p.m. The Ward Melville Heritage Organization’s Annual Walk for Beauty...in a Beautiful Place will take place a little over a week later on Sunday, October 22nd and proceeds raised for both events will go toward a targeted research fund at Stony Brook Medicine for Breast Cancer
Research as well as the WMHO Unique Boutique for prosthesis and wigs. Ladies Night Out will include live music throughout the village center including WALK97.5, pink cocktails, foodie specials, goodie bags, raffles and more. It is the 24th year WMHO has hosted the event which
