Three Village Students Paint Smiles For Those In Need The National Junior Art Honor Societies in the Three Village Central School District recently wrapped up their final service project of the year. All three chapters – Minnesauke Elementary School, P.J. Gelinas Jr. High School and R.C. Murphy Jr. High School –
had members design and assemble backpacks to be donated to Hands Across Long Island. Students filled backpacks with a number of items and toiletries to be given to the organization’s Mobile Shower Unit which serves those facing homelessness on Long Island.

John Monteleone: Art Of The Guitar Festival, August 11-13, Will Bring Together Leading Jazz Guitarists From All Over The Globe The Jazz Loft will be presenting its most impressive event of the summer season with the John Monteleone: Art of the Guitar Festival, August 11-13. The festival, named for the world-renowned guitar craftsman John Monteleone, will feature more than 18 musicians over the days and nights and include performances by Monteleone, Russell Malone Quartet, Anthony Wilson Trio, John Pizzarelli Trio, Tal Yahalom Quartet and Ratko Zjaca Duo with James Commack. Monteleone, luthier to the likes of Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler and Ben Harper, has been described as “a living master” and “the modern-day Stradivari of guitar”, Monteleone’s instruments are part of the permanent exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. “I am so honored to
present this world-class festival with artists coming from near and far,” said Tom Manuel, founder of the Jazz Loft. “It’s a privilege to present the artistry of John Monteleone for all to experience up close and personal. I’m especially happy to be working with the Pizzarelli family to honor the legacy and career of Bucky Pizzarelli in a museum exhibit which celebrates the long and rich history and contributions he made to Jazz. Summer brings rest, relaxation and fun, but it can also be a time of increased risk for our hearts. Extreme heat[1] may increase incidents of cardiac arrest and an average of 33 drownings occur in the U.S. each day, one-third of which are fatal.[2] Knowing cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR could be the key to saving someone from cardiac arrest or drowning. CPR, especially if performed immediately, could double or triple a cardiac arrest victim’s chance of survival. [3] The American Heart Association is reminding people about the importance of staying safe and prepared this summer. Each year, more than 350,000 out-ofhospital cardiac arrests (OHCA)[4] occur in the United States and fewer than half of these people
receive the immediate help that they need before professional help arrives.[5] The American Heart Association, the world’s leading voluntary organization dedicated to building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke, is working to increase the number of bystanders who use CPR in an emergency. As summertime activities increase the exposure of people of all ages to risks, it’s even more important to be trained on CPR. You could be saving the life of someone you love. A simple one-minute video (https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=M4ACYp75mjU) shows you what you need to know to perform Hands Only CPR. To be ready for a safe summer, the American Heart Association recommends the following: • Learn CPR. For drowning, the American
Heart Association recommends rescue breaths along with compressions. • Remember Life Jackets. Half of all boating deaths could be prevented with their use.[6] • Learn to Swim. Drowning is the secondleading cause of death in children between ages 1 and 4.[7] • Family Safety Plan. It’s important for everyone in the family to be trained in CPR. • Secure the Pool. Install fencing with self-closing gates at least 4 feet high to separate the pool from house and yard.[8] • Teach Safety. Talk about risky behavior such as diving or swimming in unfamiliar water, and alcohol or drug use while in or near water. • Clear Out Pool Toys. Make sure children aren’t tempted to play unsupervised.

Through August 27 Juror Carol Fabricatore invited artists to enter works that captured the spirit, movement, emotions of their subject. We were looking for works inspired by life… works that conjured narratives…that took us to places we had never seen… or introduced us to people and places. Artists build their work through inspiration, references, sketches, models, underpaintings and other modes of planning. An artist’s Little Black Book is often a secret stash
of intimate expressions, innermost thoughts, and experimental techniques that lay the groundwork for their final piece. Entrants were required to submit writeups digital images, sketches, etc. that showed the evolution of each piece they entered into the show. About the juror: Carol Fabricatore is an artist in the New York City area who is a great observer of all things and likes to approach creating narrative imagery beginning with an emotional connection to an idea. She often gravitates
towards subject matter that might be seen in one’s peripheral vision or passed by on the way to something in the mainstream. She has produced art for books, magazines, newspapers, and projects for design and advertising firms. Carol has taught narrative drawing at the School of Visual Arts since 1994. She has had work in American Illustration, Communication Arts Illustration Annual, Society of Illustrators, Creative Quarterly and has won awards in the Society
of Newspaper Design, The San Francisco Show - Gold winner, Graphic Design USA; Desi Award, Graphis; Top Ten Illustrated Annual Reports & Society of Illustrators Los Angeles among many others. Seasonal Boat Slips Now Available At Robert Moses State Park East Marina The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that seasonal boat slips at the Robert Moses State Park East Marina are available for rent. Interested boaters can obtain an application to reserve a slip by visiting the Robert Moses State Park Office.
The Robert Moses State Park East Marina has forty (40) boat slips, which are available from Memorial Day to Columbus Day. East Marina Seasonal slips will be available on a first come, first serve basis, and will be assigned by Robert Moses State Park. In the event the marina has reached capacity, you will be placed on the wait list.
A seasonal boat slip costs $50 per foot. Slips can accommodate vessels up to 40 feet long with a maximum beam of 14 feet. Each slip has potable water, two cleats, and electric hook-up. The power source is 50 amps (50/125). Boaters must supply their own ropes, adapters, and extension cords. Each slip includes
one vehicle parking permit. No overnight visitor parking will be permitted. Boaters who rent a slip during the 2022 season will automatically be renewed for the 2023 season. Robert Moses State Park is located at the south end of the Robert Moses Causeway and can be reached by the

Ronald McDonald House Charities® New York Metro www. rmhcnym.org
The mission of RMHC New York Metro is to build a community of compassionate care by creating and supporting programs that directly improve the health and well-being of sick children and their families. “Since its inception in 1986, the Ronald McDonald House has served an average of 1,000 families per year,” said Matt Campo, CEO, RMHC NY Metro. “We’ve given back 27,000 hours to the families to spend with their child that might have otherwise been wasted driving back and forth to hotels, to eat meals, or to do laundry. Everything a family needs for long term accommodation can be found in our house.” RMHC New York Metro runs a variety of programs, dating back to 1986 when the 42-bedroom Ronald McDonald House in New Hyde Park opened. Located immediately adjacent to the Cohen Children’s Hospital, providing the comforts of a home and compassionate care that meet the unique needs of families with sick children. The organization also operates a Family Room at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, which gives temporary respite to families who would otherwise spend hours and even days at their children’s bedside. The corresponding Hospitality Cart, staffed by volunteers, brings refreshments and joy to the hospital rooms of children receiving hospital
care. RMHC New York Metro thrives on the participation of its volunteers from across Long Island to help families focus on what is most important: the health and well-being of their children. These children and families rely on the support of volunteers to make their days easier, and volunteers contribute to a variety of meaningful and important activities every day. Volunteers also bring joy to families through the Family Room program, opened in 2013 and serving 3,500 families every year, as well as their Meals from the Heart and Treats from the Heart Programs, which invites individuals into the kitchen at the Ronald McDonald House to cook a homemade meal and delicious desserts for families. Throughout this month, you will learn about more about RMHC New York Metro, including profiles of some of their volunteers, the grassroots leadership coming from Long Island Communities that helps support the organization and the aggressive expansion plans for Suffolk County to help families there that are in need. Families can travel hours for lifesaving treatments. Families without accommodation near a hospital can endure long drives, lost jobs, worried siblings left at home and for some, no place to sleep. They’re far from family and friends who give them support. However, Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC) New York Metro, a 501c3 non-profit organization, keeps families seeking medical treatment for their sick children near the care they need and the families they love.

The Differences Between Weather Warnings And Watches Weather is hard to predict. Meteorologists have many tools at their disposal to help forecast storms and other phenomena, but it is impossible to predict the weather with 100 percent accuracy. When the weather takes a turn for the worse, the National Weather Service may issue certain notices to prepare the public. Understanding
the level of threat a notice carries can help people take appropriate action and avoid serious consequences. The NWS uses a fourtier system to alert the public of hazards. Here’s a closer look at what each tier constitutes.

However, if a storm moves in rapidly, only a warning may be issued. People always should pay attention to weather notices so they can be prepared should severe weather be in the forecast.

Educators Represent Rocky Point At National Recognition EDUCATORS REPRESENT ROCKY POINT - Rocky Point Middle School’s designation in the Schools to Watch Program spotlights the academic excellence, developmental responsiveness, social equity and organizational support for its students. Assistant Principal Dawn Meyers and math teacher Nicole Gabrinowitz recently attended the annual conference in Washington, D.C., to receive the Schools to Watch award given by The National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform. “It was a great opportunity for collaboration and to be among educators working together to gain additional ideas and strategies being used to help all middle school students succeed ,” Meyers said. Port Jefferson Retirees Thanked By BOE The Port Jefferson School District Board of Education meeting was a time for celebrating district retirees for their decades of service to district students. Words of appreciation and thanks were shared from Superintendent of Schools Jessica Schmettan before each retiree was highlighted. Earl L. Vandermeulen High School Principal Eric Haruthunian spoke highly of two of the school’s staff members. Retiree June Ann Crovello was lauded for her 16 years of service in various capacities in the school district, most recently as a teaching assistant at the high school. Haruthunian also lauded Matthew Moloney, network and systems technician, for his more than 20 years of service to the district. Edna Louise Spear Elementary School Principal Amy Laverty congratulated teaching assistant Johanna O’Hara. Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Robert Neidig shared stories about science teacher Debra Hagmeyer. Director of Athletics Adam Sherrard shared some kind words for physical and health education teacher James Mimnaugh. Sherrard read quotes from students and staff for Mimnaugh’s almost three decades of service to Port Jefferson students.
