The family friendly, educational and social distancing experience will

be held every Saturday and Sunday through the month of July at Spirit’s Promise Rescue (www. spiritspromiserescue.org). Every business has been impacted by COVID-19, within the equine industry this holds especially true for the equine rescues who operated on limited recourses prior to the pandemic. The ticketed drive-thru tour will provide these rescues with financial support to provide critical care to their animals that offer services ranging from equine therapy, recreation and jobs throughout the region. Inspired by Spirit’s Promise Equine Rescues Hay For Horses Mobile Food Pantry hosted at Tanger Outlets Riverhead during Giving Tuesday on May 5, the Neptune Feed & Saddlery collaboration will support increasing the frequency of the horse mobile food pantry throughout all of Long Island for equine organizations going through economic challenges to receive free food for their animals. An economic impact study conducted by The American Horse Council shows that the New York state’s Equine Industry is the second largest agribusiness in New York, providing the state with $5.3 billion in economic impact generating 42,400 full-time jobs for New Yorkers. The horse industry also does its part for the preservation of green space. Approximately 1.3 million acres are

currently used for horserelated purposes, and the equine industry is active in every one of New York’s 62 counties. About Long Island Equine Trail: Long Island Equine Trail provides a platform to collaboratively advocate for the equine culture on Long Island for both Nassau and Suffolk County. Equity First Foundation (EFF) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization located here on Long Island. Rhonda Klch started this foundation with the mission to offer services, resources and programs to consumers and small businesses that are facing financial distress. Although the details of financial markets may not be necessary for everyone, a good understanding of everyday finances is needed to ensure your home, bank account and additional assets are protected as you go about your life. This nonprofit is guided by a board of experts from the Long Island business community. They strive to educate the community so people can make financial decisions with knowledge and confidence. EFF provides financial education, literacy and best practices at low or no cost to individuals and groups from primary school through retirement and including life events.

Although EFF has switched their programs from in person to virtual, they have been well received. They continue to offer free financial counseling and outreach resources for numerous families on Long Island. The Equity First Foundation has three different types of programs that they offer: Educational Institution Program This program focuses on k-12, post secondary, and trade schools with student types comprised of all abilities including special needs and developmentally disabled. It is offered as a workshop / assembly that can last for as short as 45 minutes to as long as a full day or mini series. Each program is uniquely designed to fit the educational facility after a comprehensive needs analysis. Some sample topics that can be addressed are:

career options by salary, understanding money management, life skills, healthy financial choices, creating a budget, creating a savings account and more. Community Outreach Program The Community Outreach Program focuses on independent facilities, partnering charities and nonprofits, community centers, libraries, career fairs, guest speakers, events and more for all demographics. These are offered in as short as 45 minutes to as long as a full day or mini series. Some sample topics are: first time home-buyer, understanding student loans, improving your credit, avoiding senior scams, understanding your retirement plan and more. Corporate Awareness Program This program focuses on a lunch and learn structure for 10 or more employees. Some sample topics are: paying off debt, understanding your 401K, saving for vacation, your family on a budget and benefits of good credit.

Economic Opportunity Council Of Suffolk, Inc. Receives Federal Funding To Help Low Income Suffolk Residents The Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk, Inc. (EOC of Suffolk) has received $1.7 million in federal funds to provide financial assistance to individuals and families facing economic hardships arising from COVID-19related disruptions. The funds are being made available to eligible Suffolk County residents

who have either lost their jobs, became temporarily unemployed, or faced financial difficulties because of the pandemic. The funds originate from the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act – commonly known as the CARES Act – which is providing $41 billion in funding to supplement the nationwide

Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) program. Signed into law on March 27, the relief program aims to address the consequences of increased unemployment and economic disruption resulting from the COVID-19 virus. “The Coronavirus pandemic has triggered the most damaging economic crisis America has faced

in some 80 years,” said Adrian Fassett, CEO of EOC of Suffolk. “During this difficult period, these federal funds will help our organization fulfill our mission of promoting the economic self-sufficiency of Suffolk County residents.” An applicant’s eligible expenses can include food, funeral costs, rental expenses, broker fees,

utility expenses, medical expenses, retraining expenses, clothing, bedding, toiletries, and other expenses. Household income cannot exceed 200 percent of poverty guidelines. The determination of financial eligibility for CARES assistance does not factor in an applicant’s supplemental

Help For Low-Income Brookhaven Residents With COVID-19 Rental Arrears

Collectively, they have contributed 194.5 years of dedication to the students of Rocky Point. Frank J. Carasiti Elementary School will say goodbye to Principal Dr. Virginia Gibbons and Assistant Principal Vivien Leary, teacher Lydia Avallone-Balfour and custodian Richard Robertson; Joseph A. Edgar Intermediate School congratulates Principal Linda Murphy on her eight years of service; Rocky Point Middle School teacher aides Linda Darcey and Anna Spallina and special education teacher Frank Centrone will leave the district; special education senior office assistant Elizabeth Manger and Rocky Point High School’s science teacher Nancy Hunter and teacher aides JoAnn Lizio and Rosalia Rink will also retire. In spite of the fact that in 1808, Federal law prohibited the importation of slaves in the United States, the beautifully appointed schooner yacht Wanderer brought approximately 400 enslaved men, women, and children from the west coast of Africa to the slave state of Georgia in November, 1858, just three years before the American Civil War (1861-1865). The details of this tragic

event where more than 80 Africans died during the approximately month and-a-half voyage and those that arrived sick, emaciated and desperate, were quickly sold into the system. This program will be followed by a brief question and answer period. The program will be presented by Three Village Historical Society Historian, Bev Tyler.
