Although EFF has switched their programs from in person to virtual, they have been well received. They continue to offer free financial counseling and outreach resources for numerous families on Long Island. The Equity First Foundation has three different types of programs that they offer: Educational Institution Program This program focuses on k-12, post secondary, and trade schools with student types comprised of all abilities including special needs and developmentally disabled. It is offered as a workshop / assembly that can last for as short as 45 minutes to as long as a full day or mini series. Each program is uniquely designed to fit the educational facility after a comprehensive needs analysis. Some sample topics that can be addressed are:

career options by salary, understanding money management, life skills, healthy financial choices, creating a budget, creating a savings account and more. Community Outreach Program The Community Outreach Program focuses on independent facilities, partnering charities and nonprofits, community centers, libraries, career fairs, guest speakers, events and more for all demographics. These are offered in as short as 45 minutes to as long as a full day or mini series. Some sample topics are: first time home-buyer, understanding student loans, improving your credit, avoiding senior scams, understanding your retirement plan and more. Corporate Awareness Program This program focuses on a lunch and learn structure for 10 or more employees. Some sample topics are: paying off debt, understanding your 401K, saving for vacation, your family on a budget and benefits of good credit. Port Jefferson Students Nominated For TEENY Awards Six Earl L. Vandermeulen High School student have each been nominated for a Teeny Award, a recognition from the East End Arts Council, an organization that has been recognizing and celebrating excellence in high school theater for almost two decades. This is the first time Port Jefferson has been invited to enter into the awards, making the nominations not only a point of pride for the district, but a historic moment for the high school’s drama program. Liam Sproul was nominated in the category of Lead Male in a Play for his role of Cassius in the school’s fall drama production of “Julius Caesar,” adapted by theater director Anthony Butera. Jade McGarrity performed
the role of Portia in the same production and is nominated as Supporting Female in a Play. Both Liam and Jade are each competing with six actors from Suffolk County schools for the first-place honors. “Julius Caesar” also produced four nominations in the Technical Recognition categories – Carley Davidson and Jack Worrell for stage managers and Dylan Dugourd and Ryan Parmegiani for Lighting Design and Crew. Dylan was also cited for his unique special technical effects for the show. “This is such a great achievement for these students, using the skills they possess on the stage and as part of the crew is a testament to
the commitment they all have for theater,” Mr. Butera said. “They really embraced their roles in this production and are all exceptional students to work with. We all congratulate and wish them all well at the ceremony.” In a virtual program to be held in late July, esteemed community members, theatre professionals and arts supporters, will honor students in multiple categories including lead and supporting actors and actresses, student choreographers, poster and playbill designers, outstanding performers, design and technical categories and pit orchestra.

Port Jefferson Student Places In NYS Essay Contest Port Jefferson Middle School eighth grader Viviane Kim was named the 2020 third-place winner in a statewide essay contest sponsored by The New York State Conference of Mayors. Organized by middle school teacher Monica Consalvo, Viviane will receive $50 and a plaque and will be recognized on NYCOM’s website and other social media platforms, as well as in Municipal Matters magazine. “I am so proud of Viviane not only because she took the time to participate, but

To mitigate air pollution and greenhouse-gas emissions, Port Jefferson will work with PSEG to refurbish our power-plant for renewable energy. Although our position on the shore makes us vulnerable to storms, it is
advantageous for wind and solar energy production. This will power a clean transit system, allowing easy movement around town with a smaller carbon footprint. Electric buses or streetcars will efficiently connect the Upper Port with the business district and harbor. I will reform school-busing with efficient routes, and not waste fuel by seating three students on a bus meant for seventy-two. Collaborating with Suffolk County, Port Jefferson’s new electric-vehicle charging stations will promote clean fuels and attract visitors. In conclusion, the Environmental Defense Program that I will introduce as mayor will make Port Jefferson a leader in local sustainability,
health, and safety (my main responsibilities), while preserving its beauty for future generations. I will unify my community and its businesses in a project for the common good. Port Jefferson will be the best place to live.
