The Three Village Historical Society is featuring free, three to five minute tales and stories about less known individuals who once lived in Setauket, East Setauket and Stony Brook. For example, many stories have been told about the members of the Culper Spy Ring, but not many have heard the story of Zachariah Greene, who served in the American Revolution and later became pastor of the Setauket Presbyterian Church. Zachariah and other individuals have made an impact on our history, but not many know their stories. Starting Friday, July 3rd, join us for a series of storytelling from benches around the Three Village area and step back in time with us. Scanlon’s Traveling Salon is run by Eileen Scanlon, a fellow New Yorker whose mission is to cultivate a community based on kindness, respect and equality. Eileen has been a NYS Licensed Cosmetologist for over 30 years, however she has experience in many other industries as well. She has worked with corporate America, non-profits, academia and local grassroots organizations. She is wellrounded and truly one of the kindest people I have ever met. In 2010, Eileen began volunteering, offering free haircuts to people in need. Eileen felt so overjoyed by helping others look and feel beautiful for free while working within various types of socio economic communities, that she eventually began her very own traveling salon. With its catchy slogan, Where Style Comes To You, Scanlon’s Traveling Salon now serves an abundance of people across Long Island. Some of the communities that Eileen serves are: the home confined and vulnerable, hospice, group homes, sober houses, assisted living communities and those who are differently abled. She always travels to her customers so they can enjoy her services in the comfort of their home or living space. Her goal is to provide each and every one of her clients with a warm, happy, positive and empathetic experience before, during and after each visit. She also incorporates her love of social justice and advocacy into her business practice by using only vegan products. Unlike your average hair salon, Scanlon’s uses fresh new sanitized tools and capes on all her clients. She now also offers one on one personal service with gloves and masks, and will wash and sanitize any area which was touched during the visit. Additionally, if you would like to have your hair service done outside, Scanlon’s will gladly honor that request. “Everyone’s safety and comfort is our primary concern”, says owner Eileen Scanlon. Scanlon’s business model was always unique and special, however with everyone adjusting to the new normal, her services are becoming more and more desired. A young woman who loves Eileens services mentioned, “Being able to call up an experienced local and friendly hair

dresser during times like these where I am not comfortable going to a salon is so comforting. She will come to my house and give me a hair cut outside if I want. I’ve been using Eileen’s service for about 7 years now and I would not go back to a salon anytime soon. Port Jefferson’s premiere virtual concert series for elementary and middle school orchestra students was a special way to reimagine the New York State School Music Association’s performances for spring 2020. Students continued to practice, prepare, attend virtual lessons and dress rehearsals leading up to the events – three online concerts featuring works from Bach, Brahms, Dvořák, Handel and Vivaldi among other renowned composers.
