Guardians of Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Their mission is to facilitate and foster programs and activities that further the unique benefits of interaction between people and animals. They are truly an animal rights and welfare organization whose members work to protect the wellbeing of all animals and their owners, and come to the aid of those in distress. The Guardians are keenly aware that there is no shortage of animal neglect and their goal is to help in as many ways as possible to make sure animals are always taken care of. We are all aware of the toll that this pandemic is having on people, yet the impacts are being felt beyond humans. Animals are also being impacted in numerous ways through this situation, leaving some animal rescue organizations to struggle to provide their services. Guardians of Rescue is overwhelmed

and could really use your help. So many people have had their employment impacted by the virus, therefore donations to this organization are down. This makes it difficult for them to continue feeding the animals, building doghouses, taking in new rescues and trying to cover all their expenses. “We have been providing our rescue services for over 10 years, but now we are struggling to keep our organization going,” explains Robert Misseri, president of Guardians of Rescue, an animal rescue organization. “We are in jeopardy because of the perfect storm that this pandemic has created for organizations such as ours. Many people are living paycheck to paycheck so pets are in trouble.” “The pandemic has created a host of problem for the animals,” says Misseri. “I hope that we can make it through this difficult time, so that we can continue to help the animals in need.” To help support Guardians of Rescue, please make a donation online at www. guardiansofrescue.org/donate.

Uplifting Community News!

A couple of weeks ago I invited readers to submit good news they have heard amid these trying times. Below is a heartfelt and inspring submission that I’d like to share it with you all. Mr. & Mrs. Garvey live in Babylon with their 3 children, Kate (11) and Eloise and Sam (10 year old twins). Since the beginning of the stay-at-home order, their kids decided to set up a table on their driveway every single day, weather permitting, to collect food for St. Joseph’s Food Pantry. A neighbor (Anthony Pascarella - owner of CJS Printing ) whom they did not know before the food drive, dropped off several printed signs for them, unsolicited and free of charge. The signs have been very helpful in alerting the community about the food drive. When they began collecting food in late March, Kate, Eloise and Sam set a goal for themselves to collect 1 ton of non-perishable food items and paper products, and they have already surpassed it! With 3000 pounds of donated food collected, they are exited and confident they can reach their new goal of 2 tons very soon. With smiling faces, a passion for others and a spirit of giving, these children have made a big impact on their community. Many people are doing all they can to assist those in need and make a difference, but it is always enlightening to see young children doing so on their own! Also, a big thanks to Fred Shores and the entire Babylon Community for their generous donations, and to Anthony Pascarella for his random act of kindness!

Hospital Association Offers Scholarship The Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council (NSHC) announces a $2,000 scholarship for college juniors/seniors or post graduate students who are studying Journalism, Marketing/ Communications, or Healthcare Administration. (The scholarship is not for clinical-based study.) The Ann Marie Brown Memorial Scholarship honors the late Ann Marie Brown, who served as vice president for government and public relations for the Hospital Council from 1983 to 1993. Orange Whole-Wheat Waffles with Yogurt and Fresh Berries Makes about 6 5- to 6-inch waffles Serves 4 to 6 Orange Whole-Wheat Waffles 21⁄4 cups white whole-wheat flour 3 tablespoons sugar 2 teaspoons baking powder 1⁄4 teaspoon salt 11⁄4 cups whole milk 1⁄2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice 2 eggs, separated 5 teaspoons packed, grated orange zest

Frontline medical workers providing lifesaving treatment at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip amid the COVID-19 outbreak were treated to a special delivery of several hundred meals donated by the Barasch McGarry law ﬁrm at lunchtime on Saturday,

April 25. For weeks, these medical workers have confronted an unprecedented crisis, as local hospitals provide health care for thousands of patients affected by the coronavirus even as their workers lacked access to basic safety equipment to prevent the spread of the

disease. Barasch McGarry, a longtime advocate for ﬁrst responders and the entire 9/11 community, has also provided meals for medical professionals at Glen Cove Hospital, New York Presbyterian in Manhattan, Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, St.

Francis Hospital in Roslyn, NYU Winthrop Hospital in Mineola, St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown, Stony Brook University Hospital, and Southside Hospital in Bay Shore. In addition, snacks and sports drinks have been donated to 14 area police precincts, in partnership with the FealGood Foundation, the Retired Sergeants Association of the New York City Police Department, and the New York State Fraternal Order of Police, Nassau Police

Lodge 69, and groceries have been delivered to local food pantries for distribution. “These people are our heroes – they need to be fed and they need to be taken care of, so they can take care of us,” said Michael Barasch, Managing Partner of Barasch McGarry. “In this time of need, we are proud to support ﬁrst responders who have been forced to sleep in their cars and the medical providers working extended shifts to protect the public health. We owe

them all an enormous debt of gratitude.” Barasch McGarry represents more than 20,000 ﬁrst responders and survivors with 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund claims. Barasch McGarry successfully advocated for the Never Forget the Heroes: James Zadroga, Ray Pfeifer, and Luis Alvarez Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Act, which extended the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund until 2092.

Northwell Health To Delay Payments For Patients Financially Impacted By Covid-19 Northwell Health, New York State’s largest health care provider and the state’s largest private employer, today announced that it would delay payments with zero percent interest for a minimum of 60 days for those patients who receive medical services and have been financially impacted with the loss of a job, lost wages or other financial distress resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Northwell has been on the front lines and among the first US health systems to test and treat for COVID-19.
