Earth Day is a celebration of the planet that people, plants and animals call home. First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day was established to demonstrate support for environmental protection, and is held each year on April 22. It is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network and celebrated in more than 193 countries. People may wonder what they can do at a local

Day-after-day, medical professionals continue to step up to protect their local communities amid the COVID-19 pandemic. To thank those who are working tirelessly to protect us, DJT Development is giving away a bathroom remodel to a front-line healthcare worker in Suffolk or Nassau county. Running through April 30, qualifying medical professionals can sign up via the DJT Development Facebook page by reserving a spot in the giveaway, submitting a photo of their current bathroom, and answering

Telehealth Is Available Through Metro Physical & Aquatic Therapy Telehealth is a new resource available through Metro Physical & Aquatic Therapy for anyone that needs therapy and wishes to receive the treatment in the comfort and safety of their own home. Telehealth offers a web based therapy session that is done via a webcam. Phones, tablets, or computers can be used. The sessions are private and the only people that have access to the video call are the patient and the treating therapist.

Telehealth is available for any body part or condition, and is covered by insurance. While we navigate the challenges COVID-19 presents, under most insurances Metro Physical Therapy is able to waive any copayment associated with the treatment. This means sessions are available at no out of pocket cost to the patient in most cases. In the event a copayment can not be waived, a second session in the same week is being

offered for free. This allows a patient to be treated 2x per week for the cost of 1 session. Equipment is available to be dropped off upon therapists discretion, allowing patients to complete meaningful exercises to help progress them further. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please contact us at 516-745-8050 or visit metrophysicaltherapy.com

Who Or What Were We Serving One thing I have heard a lot throughout my life is “Who or what are you serving?” Each day we all choose to “serve” someone o r something. This could be God, a loved one, yourself, money or really anything else you can think of. What I mean by this is, where is your attention, love and energy most going to?

was the common dinner option, rush-hour held us up from attending events on time and careers were the main focus of the average household.

While flowers certainly add beauty and a wonderful aroma to wedding ceremonies and receptions, there are other reasons behind their inclusion in such festivities. In ancient Rome, brides carried or wore flower garlands because the Romans believed flowers signified hope, fertility and new beginnings. In the Middle Ages, brides did not carry flowers, but rather strong-smelling spices and herbs. The rationale was that the herbs and spices would drive away bad luck and evil spirits. Flowers also served another practical purpose. In eras when bathing was a luxury, different flowers and herbs helped mask body odors. It wasn't until the Victorian era, when flowers were used to symbolize romantic love, that they became part of wedding ceremonies, according to Modern Weddings magazine.

How Does The New Coronavirus Affect You And Your Pets?

Pet owners can rest easy that there is no reason to believe that dogs or cats in the United States might be a source of infection for the new coronavirus disease — COVID-19 — or cause its spread according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. And so far, according to the CDC, there have been no reports of pets becoming sick with COVID-19. This coronavirus appears to be primarily transmitted from human to human. As a pet owner, you may have heard of canine coronavirus, an intestinal infection in dogs, especially puppies, and feline coronavirus, which can cause feline infectious peritonitis (FIP). These types of coronaviruses have been around for quite some time and are not associated with the current outbreak. To protect yourself, your family, and possibly even

your pets, from this new coronavirus, you should follow these precautions: • Frequently wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water (use hand sanitizer with more than 60 percent alcohol if you can’t wash) • Avoid close contact with people who are sick—stay at least three feet away • Cover your mouth/ nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, then throw away the used tissues and wash your hands • Stay at home if you are sick • Sanitize often-used surfaces in your home and office If you do become sick with COVID-19, how then should you care for your pet? The CDC recommends that you restrict contact with pets and other animals just as you would with people. Ask another member of your

household to care for your pets while you are sick. If you must do it yourself, wash your hands before and after you interact and wear a facemask. The toughest part for pet lovers is that you must remember that you really should not be petting, snuggling, or sharing kisses or food with your pet! - Submitted by North Shore Animal League America www.animalleague. org Updates to this information can be found on the websites below: Centers for Disease Control https://www.cdc.gov/ coronavirus/2019-ncov/ summary.html World Small Animal Veterinary Association https://wsava.org/wpcontent/uploads/2020/02/ COVID-19_WSAVAAdvisory-DocumentFeb-29-2020.pdf

Students in Edna Louise Spear Elementary School had a colorful Read Across America celebration in the school library for the annual recognition of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Organized by librarian Selinda Stout, students and staff were encouraged to wear striped socks and crazy hats. Dr. Seuss coloring books and other activities were available, and the Cat in the Hat and

the Grinch were on hand to greet students and hand out tokens for the school’s book vending machine. The highlight of the day was students at all grade levels who served as guest readers and read aloud their favorite stories to their classmates. They were Timothy Amadio, Lina Awadallah, Allie Blumenthal, Adrian Diaz, Avery Eisaman and Sophie Franck. Leading

up to the event, students participated in a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses such as Applebee’s, Kilwins Chocolate Shop, Panera, Port Jeff Bowl and Roger’s Frigate. Stout thanked each reader and complimented their abilities in reading aloud to their peers in the school’s efforts to promote STUDENT READERS ARE STUDENT LEADERS - Edna Louise Spear Elementary independent reading. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula, then add the roasted bananas, sour cream and vanilla. Beat until incorporated.
